Centralised Group Controlling

Decentralised controllers
SAP FI/CO :
– One platform in 2010
– Untill then : 2 platforms with BW to bring reporting data together
Reporting tool : BW with Excel/bex as front-end tool
Forecasting : excel stand-alone
Budgetting : excel stand-alone + SAP upload
– Excel is not made for this
– Upload in SAP in time-consuming, especially for handling revised data
Situation before BPC

SAP + BW/bex
Advantages
– Standardised
– Data content : bringing 2 SAP-platforms together for reporting
– Quick data look-up

Disadvantages
– Difficult to integrate with standard lay-out & presentation
– User friendliness
– Only reporting, no budgetting or consolidation
– Forecasting in excel : lot of re-input in different excel-reports
– Budgetting in excel and upload in SAP : dangerous, needs a lot of checks
Wish-list Corelio (1)

Improvement lay-out : reports on paper are still very important !

Standard lay-out
– Easier for end-user to walk around in data
– Bringing decentralised users on standardised platform : one truth
– No more excel stand-alone
Forecast
– In database
– But not on lowest detail level
– Allocations
– Integrated comments of budgetholder
– Proces : log
Wish-list Corelio (2)

Budget
– In database
– Integration ‘framework’ on high level with details (CC/CE) on lowest level
– Allocations
– Integrated comments & interaction with division controllers
– Proces automatistion & log
Consolidation in same database as management reporting
– Faster
– Auto-reconciliation
Solution : BPC

Strong integration with existing SAP/BW

– Netweaver-version
– Integration with new profitcenter accounting in SAP/R3 (2010) goes very quickly
Front-end : excel
– Flexible : use of standard excel-functionality possible
– Need for poweruser to create ‘standard reports’ for end-user, but poweruser does not have to
be an IT-specialist.
– End-user can navigate easily in reporting
– Feels like excel, but with one database one truth
Comments are available in database interactive
Budget & forecasting process :
– Uniformisation (inputschedules)
– Automatisation (no more multiple inputs)
– High level data & low devel detail in same tool
One tool for both consolidation & management reporting (next step)
Why Cernum/CFObelux

• IT oriented
• Back-end
– CFObelux
• BPC/Outlooksoft in depth knowledge
• Business oriented
• Front-end
• Ex-controllers : “we speak the same languages”

EVDRE reporting and input schedules
EVSND and EVGET formulas used for some specific schedules
Use of Datasrc dimension to capture adjustments
Multiple hierarchy structures in dimensions to comply to various reporting
needs
Management of versions (Budget versions)
EVHOT (create report jumps)
Jump to the SAP Portal for detailed reporting on document level (Actuals)
Allocation logic (CO allocations can be handled in BPC)
EVPRO to link dimension members (eg Forecasting on higher level than
actuals reporting)
Reports
Input Screens
SAP BPC Project @ Corelio

Project observations
Fast ROI on Actuals reporting due to integrated environment
Key-user quickly adopts BPC functionality and report building
BI plays an important role to make good progress

Project recommendations / lessons learnt

Involvement of key-user is important, even during design ; design is not an
IT related job in SAP BPC
Workflow functionality of the Microsoft version not yet present – be creative
Make sure you know all functionality differences between Microsoft and
Netweaver version
Be a Microsoft Excel expert

BPC Terminology vs SAP BI Terminology

25
Integration SAP BI - BPC

BPC objects generates SAP NetWeaver BI objects (i.e. InfoCubes, InfoObjects)

All BPC Objects are stored in the /CPMB/ namespace

SAP BPC SAP BI

26
Integration SAP BI - BPC

BPC is not able to use the objects in the « standard BI namespace »

In the NetWeaver version you can choose between SAP BI functionalities
and BPC functionalities
In BPC, data (transactional, master) IS NOT shared across AppSets.
Appsets are like InfoAreas, but without shared data

Lessons learnt

User driven
Tight Integration with MS Excel
SAP BI Integration
Easy Master Data maintenance
The choice between BPC functionality and SAP BI functionality
Manual maintenance needed if using SAP BI ETL functions not fully in user
hands
Less performant with big amount of master data during Rampup
Time-dependency management
Business Process Flow not yet available during Rampup
Only 1 Key Figure possible per application
