Hy

You’ve discovered a desk top biochemical method to take ordinary

water and produce hydrogen from it which then safely burns and
powers a generator to produce electricity. Now, how do you make
money from your discovery without being shut down or killed off by
entrenched interests? This is the story.
*****************************************

Hy was now complete.

Walter Timmons had succeeded beyond his best dreams and had
been able to create Hy, a simple box like contraption no larger than a
paper back book and which could easily be attached to any diesel or
gasoline driven engine at the fuel intake into the engine and then
voila, simple water would then be converted by the Box as Timmons
simply called it and suddenly hydrogen was providing the combustible
fuel.

Simple hydrogen pulled from everyday water and with oxygen as the
exhaust along with water vapor. Incredible and mind boggling
amazing, chuckled Timmons to himself as he bustled about his
garage and double checked the output of the car engine.

Looking down his quiet neighborhood street and noting the neatly
grown gardens and lawns and the children playing two houses down
from his, and the mailman crossing the street without looking for
traffic as he delivered magazines to Mrs. Crawley, whose husband
Bill was a UFO aficionado, William Timmons pondered for a moment
what this street would look like if the press ever found out who he
was and where he lived and where Hy first originated from.

Shaking his head, Timmons murmured to himself that no one would

ever know, for he did not have the slightest doubt that his life counted
on being completely anonymous in the global jungle where the
predators of the oil and energy industries would ruthlessly hunt him
down and wipe his very existence and the reality and wonder of Hy
from the world's attention and consciousness.
To that laudable and very understandable end, Timmons pushed his
wire frame glasses back from his nose and scratched his salt and
pepper beard, an action he always did when in deep thought.

He had two key things going for him as opposed to the regular world
of inventors many of whom did not have a clue as to true savage
nature of the world about them.

The first talent that William Timmons had was that he had a
reasonably good sense for business and sales which when you think
about it is what really drives the nature of humanity.

The second and even more important trait was that William Timmons,
65 years, 6ft 1", 185 pounds with a slight limp on his left leg and
a bit of extra weight about his middle but still slender looking
and lean with muscle, was an ex CIA field agent who had been there
and done that and in fact it was his last posting in Berlin just
before the wall fell when that strange wisp of an elderly man
with those piercing blue eyes and bent shoulders had approached
Timmons at a rendezvous in a small village 50 miles within East
Germany and had pressed some muddy papers into his hands and
begged Timmons to " save the world" with what was contained within.

The man had then turned and lurched off into the cold drizzle of that
November dawn and 6 months after that, Timmons opted for early
retirement from the Agency as he had not shown the papers to his
superiors, a real risk on his part but he simply told them the contact
never showed.

It was Timmons’s background in organic chemistry and physics that

had convinced him that Fall morning to take the risk of his life after
reviewing what the man had left with him and to frankly do that
amazing scientist a favor as he knew that Hy would never have seen
the light of day if he had followed rules and regulations of the
Company.

Now ten years later and practically every dime that Timmons had
plus a double mortgage on his home, Hy was real and functioning
and ready for the world.
Walter Timmons projected that within a year of introduction of HY, oil
would dive to $10 or less per barrel and electric utilities would
basically be out of business for the simple Hy powered generators
could easily provide power to individual homes with the fuel source
corning from the sink no less.

Make a note thought Walter, go very short on oil and power stocks.

Make a note, complete the global patent applications with all the
major nations covered.

Make a note, portion out the HY in three components for manufacturing

and then assemble the damn thing himself. He figured that he could build
100 per day at 20 Hy's per hour for five hours.

Damn! Could he possibly take the risk and hire hourly workers to
assemble the Hy boxes?

In the beginning, they would have no clue but how long before they
did have a clue?

Then they would remember that "guy" who had hired them and the
world hunt would be on for Mr. Williams Jerold Timmons by both the
world press but far more importantly by the extremely bad people
who would close him out, seize the patents and tell the consumer that
the Hy was very dangerous and would take years of research before
the world governments could possibly allow the Hy into a regular
home for self generated power, not to mention the danger of a car
being powered by hydrogen from water from the garden hose for
god's sake.

Oh yes, Walter could easily see it all and only his present day silence
would keep him alive and give the Hy a chance to change the world
for the better.

I've got a headache, thought Walter as he strode towards his kitchen

and took out a cooler of mango juice mixed with peach juice.

Pouring the mix into a large glass, Walter then limped to his office
which overlooked the quiet street and while watching the mailman
making his rounds, thought on the challenge of his first phase, the
assembly of Hy.

What if I did hire anonymously, and the workers showed up at the

warehouse and I then instructed them from a closed office using a
simple PA system?

They would be paid daily with cash in an envelope that I would simply
slip through a slot in the door. Okay, their boss is eccentric as hell but
he pays and what's more important than that?

They would have no clue as to what the Hy was and all I need is
about 10,000 of them as inventory and then they can be dismissed
and I can move to Phase 2.

Yes, that would work, smiled Walter to himself as he thought as how

his government pension from the Agency was being put to good use
and thank God he was not presently married or two people would
know about Hy and that was one too many as far as Walter Timmons
was concerned.

*******
Joey looked up from the long assembly table where he along with
20 other men and women sat, chatting amongst themselves, and
putting together this strange looking little box which none of them had
a clue as to what it did if anything.

Glancing over at the gray steel door overlooking the warehouse floor,
he once more wondered if a man or woman or thing was behind it.
Every day, he and his companions would stand up there at the end of
their 8 hour shift and be paid cash with envelopes dropped though a
slot for their work.

No complaints there thought Joey to his 23 year old self but then they
would all file out at 5PM sharp, the last one closing the door and
they would then all have to vacate the premises courtesy of Mac the
hired security guy who was no nonsense but also very nice.
Everyone knew that they would all be fired if one person was caught
sniffing around on the second level.

Just mind their own business and mind the business of their
associates as far as their not snooping where they did not belong.

Once again Joey held a completed box in his hand and wondered for
the millionth time what it was, then with one last glance up at the
mystery door, Joey sighed and resumed his part of the assembly
process.
***

Mac wondered back across the empty parking lot and squinted
against the westering sun.

Time for my daily payout he thought to himself as his heavy body

sweated in the humidity of the South Carolina evening.

Everyone's gone home, he thought, as he did two circuits of the

grounds just to make sure that no one was hiding away in a nook or
behind a tree.

Not that the boss would be walking out until it was dark anyway and
he or she probably wore a disguise just to be safe.

Mac slowly lumbered up the steps to the office door, his weight
making a solid clunk clunk on each steel step. His uniform was a
pair of beat over jeans, a black T shirt and a dragon fighting a tiger
tattoo over his left bicep.

He had seen the ad in the local paper looking for a security man,
uniform and experience not necessary, and it was that second part
which caused Mac to give the ad a try.

Well, here he was and he had to admit the money was good and in
cash, but who was it behind the door and what were they making
anyways?
Mac knocked on the heavy steel gray door and listened once again to
the strange voice on the other side, which had to be purposely
distorted so he couldn't guess the sex.

He addressed the person behind the door in the manner in which he

was instructed when he was hired several months back.

" All done for the day boss. I count another 200 boxes loaded with the
invention and everyone is gone."

" Very good Mac. I concur with your assessment," responded the
weird voice as Mac glanced back at the ceaselessly monitoring video
cameras scanning the warehouse floor.

The slot in the door opened up and Mac's daily envelope fell out to
the floor. Mac bent and picked it up, and didn't even bother to glance
at the contents.

Whomever was behind that door was a straight shooter in his book
and as strange as things around here were, the money was good and
the hours easy.

He was not going to complain.

Timmons watched Mac move like a top heavy warship across the
parking lot to his 20 year old Harley and start it up and roar away with
that faulty exhaust pipe of his.

That makes over 8,000 Hy's produced of which 7,800 were now
sitting at a local storage center which he was renting out for $50 a
month.

At this rate, Phase 1 will soon be complete thought William Timmons

as he sipped on his mango and peach drink and chewed thoughtfully
on a date.

Timmons picked up his desk top demo unit, which in effect was a
miniature generator of electricity with Hy using water as the fuel.
This should collectively blow the minds of some science editors
particularly once they kept pouring in water for fuel and the little Hy
generator kept on purring away and kept the attached light bulb
continually lit.

Press the green button which fired the sparker which lit off the
hydrogen which the Hy had already separated from the water
molecule and “ there you are folks, the beginning of a new world,
starting tomorrow” said Walter out loud with a smile as he thought
about the overnight deliveries of the table top Hy demo to the science
editors of the daily national papers along with the editors of Science,
Scientific American, and Nature.

Timmons glanced over at his issued Hy patent for the United States
marketplace and the one year global protection which had been
issued to HY company, PO Box 23456 Fairbanks, Alaska.

That will throw off the hunters for a while once they begin the search.

The plan was to use the coming year to move the Hy into the global
consciousness and then simply license the technology.

Checking his lap top, Walter reviewed his basic web site for one final
time.

This site had zero contact information but was loaded with
information to the global public as to how Hy worked and what it
could be adapted to… which was practically everything.

HY would be too well known for the oil and power concerns not to
mention the auto companies to keep it hidden.

Hy would be on everyone’s lips but even at that point, Timmons

would remain anonymous as there might be sore losers out there. No
thanks, thought William to himself as he put on his floppy hat and
large raincoat and let himself out to the back of the warehouse where
his car was garaged in a separate room locked away from the front.
Every night, using his CIA expertise, Timmons picked a different way
home, and never drove the same way twice with less than 4 days
break in the routine. Pros weren't on to him yet but one of his
workers could cause a problem If they decided to risk their job and
everyone’s job and try to follow him from the warehouse and so far
no one had, but Phase 2 would change all that.

************************************

Cecil Banks, editor of the NY York Times Science section looked up

as his secretary paused in front of his office door and held up a small
device in her hand.

“ What’s that you got here Mary?” smiled Cecil as he helped himself
to his home packed lunch of greens, fruits and a bag of chips.

“ This came in early this morning on overnight delivery Cecil. The

mailroom boys ran it through the scanners and x ray and from what
they can see from the results this is not a bomb but the sign on the
box says to add water, then press the green button for unlimited
hydrogen power.”

Cecil watched Mary place the Hy on his desk and then picked up a
short note that she placed beside it.

To whom it may concern: This is the Hy. Fill the Hy with regular
water and it will separate the hydrogen from the oxygen, then
press the green button and that will cause a spark like a lighter
does and that tiny spark will ignite the hydrogen which will drive
the generator which will produce the electricity to light the bulb.

As you can see, there are no batteries so this is not electrolysis.

That's right, seeing is believing, so get off your duff and pour
some water in the receptacle, press the green button and sit
back and watch the future of humanity and unlimited energy
begin.
After you pick up your jaw from the floor, publish to the world
along with your colleagues what you have seen. Remember
only the world press will keep the HY from disappearing into the
oil companies’ maws, never to be seen or heard from again.

Cecil Banks had a solid grounding in electronics as he had worked

with an electrician to put himself through college and of course he
knew that hydrogen from water was possible through electrolysis but
the Hy had no power source, so electrolysis was out and then left a
biological or chemical reaction.

Of course, the human body breaks down incoming air into its
constituent components every second of the day and… Cecil stopped
his musings.

This must be a hoax he thought, as was about to give it back to Mary

for consignment to the flaky and out there and not worth looking at
circular file, when he happened to glance at his glass of water on his
ink blotter.

Looking up at Mary who was watching him like a hawk, he jokingly

said, " what the hell," as he slowly poured some of the water into the
receptacle and waited for the water to disappear within the Hy unit.

" You might consider stepping out of range of this thing Mary, you
never know."

Mary took two large steps back into the main hallway and then stood
watching her boss. Her focused gaze caught the eyes of several
co workers who were now staring over her shoulder at the editor of
the science section of the New York Times who looked up at the now
attentive audience and taking a deep breath pushed the green button.

Cecil leaned forward and he thought he heard a whir from within the
box and then suddenly the light bulb lit up and even more impressive
thought Cecil, was the smell of fresh oxygen over his desk.
" Holy hell," muttered Cecil Banks as he picked up his phone and
dialed the mail department and asked them to immediately send up
the scanned pictures taken this morning of the item, which had just
been delivered to his desk.

Less than 6 minutes later with the Hy still whirring merrily away, Cecil
Banks along with his two co editors was studying the x rays.

"Here's the sparker which the green button sets off and here's the
armature, but I sure as hell don't see any batteries do you guys?"

Marjorie Tad shook her head as did Henry Overton and then all three
of them looked at the Hy as if it was an alien object from a far away
galaxy. Marjorie noted that the light bulb was starting to grow faint
and pointed it out in a hushed whisper to Cecil.

" Huh? Oh yeah," agreed Cecil as he unthinkingly poured some more

water from his glass into the Hy and immediately the bulb regained
maximum intensity.

It was that simple unthinking moment which was more convincing

than anything and everyone, including the hallway audience, which
by now had become quite a crowd gasped in amazement.

" My God, water into direct hydrogen fuel resulting in simple electricity
generation and smell the oxygen in this office," gulped Henry Overton
as he hesitantly reached over to pick up the HY and hold it in his
hand and then close to his ear.

" That whirring must be the armature spinning around." commented

Cecil as he picked up his phone to call his colleague Jack Riley on
the West Coast who was head of the Los Angeles Times Science
department. It was 9Am there so Jack may already have the Hy in
front of him.

" Yeah Jack, Cecil here. Did you receive your Hy yet?

“No? Well drop everything and get the mailroom to bring up the
overnight which just came into you and to me and according to this
letter about 20 other science editors across the country including
Nature .... no, I'll hold on Jack, this is the most incredible break
through of this century." Cecil glanced out to the hallway and
motioned the watchers away.

He looked over at his associate editors.

" This is top priority. Follow up with the Patent office and try to find
out who this person is. Can you imagine houses running with their
own water fueled generators not to mention what will happen to
gasoline? Well hop to it for the biggest story ever."

Cecil watched Marjorie and Henry walk quickly from the room and
Jack came back on to the phone. "Yeah, you've got it? I know it looks
weird. You got your x ray scans? See any batteries? Okay Jack now
hold on to your laptop, and pour some water in the Hy and see what
happens.”

Cecil picked up a radish from his lunch and slowly chewed as he

waited on what he knew Jack’s reaction would be.

A wide smile passed over Cecil’s face as he listened to Jack’s

swearing over the phone.

“ Yeah Jack, that’s what we say too. I know exactly what you feel, the
damn thing is separating hydrogen from the oxygen, you smell it?
Amazing Jack, yeah I know, I thought of 50 things this Hy can do and
what oil will look like in 12 months. We’ve got to get this out there to
the public before the government tries to bury this.

My guess it will be allover the Internet soon. Can you imagine driving
with water as fuel? Holy Hell! Okay, I'll get back to you later. I'm
going to have our resident scientists dismantle this little baby this
afternoon. Talk to you later.”

********************************
Timmons watched Mac walk away for the last time and ride away on
his motorcycle.

Walter was closing the warehouse today, the workers had all been
paid off including a bonus for finishing 2 weeks earlier than Timmons
had scheduled, and now it was just a question of wiping all surfaces
of his inner office for tell tale fingerprints as Walter had no illusions
that his place would be searched with minute attention by the
professionals once this location was known.

In addition, Timmons was moving out of his house tomorrow and

heading off to a small cottage on Key Largo.

A different state to play it safe.

His car was also going to be left behind and a property agent would
take care of the sale along with the house and then simply wire the
funds to his Swiss bank account.

The seller's name was an AKA for both the house and the car and the
titles of the car and house showed no real name but did show a real
address.

The local storage held 10,000 of the Hy's, and Walter had arranged
for movement of several thousand Hy's by moving truck to another
storage location in Key Largo.

Even if he had been followed from the warehouse by a curious

worker, there would be no trace of him as of tomorrow morning.

Walter estimated another 14 days or so before the publicity was

everywhere and his crew suddenly recognized the Hy unit and of
course they would then immediately call the press with their story.

Walter had two phone calls to make with his altered voice. The
first was to Cecil Banks who had had the last 24 hours to study the
Hy.
The second call was to confirm with his brokerage account that a
short position was in place with the publicly traded power companies
and oil and car companies stock.

“ These company shares will be dropping like a lead brick when the
news about HY gets out and this is the first of many ways to make
some money,” chuckled Walter as he waited for Cecil Banks to
answer.

When Cecil Banks heard that Hy was calling, he broke all records
responding to the phone call.

" Hello, this is Cecil Banks and you have a most amazing device
here."

" Hy is also for converting your car engine to water as fuel."

responded Walter with his voice scrambler. "

“ Be on the look out for delivery and then follow the simple directions.
Goodbye."

" Wait!" yelled Cecil as he found himself standing up and shouting

into his phone. " Damn it! I couldn't tell if it was a man or woman or
kid for all I know" seethed Cecil as he looked at his two associates.

" We've found the Patent which is in a present global protection as it

is in the first year of issue," said Marjorie as she watched the desktop
Hy still merrily powering away on Cecil's desk as it had been since
yesterday.

" There's only the name Hy Company as the inventor and a PO Box
address," added Henry while he. watched Cecil pouring some more
water into the Hy unit

" What did he say Cecil?"

" He said that I was going to be receiving the Hy for my car engine
and to follow the simple instructions for Pete's sake to convert it into a
water powered car.”
“Can you believe this stuff, we have no idea who is the inventor or
where he or she lives. He/she chooses to remain anonymous."

" I would too Cecil if I knew that every gas and oil company would
be after me not to mention power generating companies to stop the
Hy from seeing the light of day," observed Marjorie.

" Yeah you have a point," commented Cecil as he moved his lean
form across his office like a pointing hunting dog.

"Let's get this news out tomorrow. it's already cleared to go. On to the
new world of Hy."
*************************************

Hiram Coldwater put down the New York Times Hy article in the
science section and glanced briefly at the Los Angeles Times
and the AP wire pickups from practically every other paper in the
country.

On TV he had already seen over and over again, the HY powering

the light bulb and having water poured into it for renewal of energy to
drive the light.

Of course the Internet had picked up the Hy story, and get this, there
was an offical Hy sales site with an off shore bank account to wire
$100 to for your Hy unit to convert your car into a water powered
engine and $200 if you wished to convert your home for God's sake
into a self powered house with suggestions to hire an electrician to do
the work.

Holy hell! Water to generate free electricity for the home and free
power for people's cars. According to the web site over 100,000
orders had been made in the last week! With a two month waiting
period posted and still people sent on their money!

Seated at the table were a gathering of Chairmen, Chairwomen,

CEO's and Presidents of twenty companies all being impacted
overnight by the Hy phenomena.
Placed in the middle of the table were both the Hy car converter to
hydrogen and the home powered unit. A thick file with scientific
analysis was in front of everyone.

“ Okay, let's start,” said Coldwater as he fixed his cool gray eyes at
the narrow faced man who was sitting nervously next to him and
winding his fingers in and out of each other.

“Dr. Bellows is all known to us as an expert on hydrogen power and

will now make a report to us on this Hy device. Dr. Bellows?”

Paul Bellows gulped twice, cleared his throat, and began to address
the power group sitting in front of him. He knew they were not going
to be happy.

“Well, to begin with, the Hy somehow is able to separate a molecule

of hydrogen and oxygen with a combination of biological and
chemical reaction which none of us understands.

The rest of the reaction is quite simple. Create a spark to ignite

the hydrogen gas and eject the oxygen as waste gas. We have seen
the Patent and spent hours trying to understand the inner functioning.

We are at a loss to understand the biochemistry. It's incredible

genius."

" What about the Hy being a danger to the consumer Doctor?"

inquired Coldwater with a piercing look at his staff expert.

" From what we have been able to discern, the Hy chamber never fills
with the hydrogen to the point of danger of a lethal explosion. Two
gallons of water in a small Hy unit will convert into no more voltage
than would a gas powered generator. I imagine it would be the same
for the car engine conversion but that is not in our perview, so no, I
would say that the Hy is not dangerous as a power source."

Coldwater glanced down the table at Bill Hewlings, Chairman of GM.

"Bill. what can you tell us?"

" Our guys have easily converted all our makes in less than 10
minutes of simple hookups and the damn thing works. Just fill up your
tank with regular water and get this, the MPG on hydrogen is far more
efficient than combustion of gasoline and the waste is water vapor
and oxygen ... and there is less danger from a Hy powered car than
from a gasoline powered car."

" Are you planning to stop manufacturing of gasoline powered

engines Bill," asked Coldwater as he peered over his nose glasses
the GM chairman.

" Our designers are working on an all water powered car as we speak.
I'm afraid that we are looking at the end of the gasoline era in fact anything
powered by oil, coal or natural gas."

Coldwater glanced down at the latest OPEC quote and noted a 50%
drop in barrel price in one week no less with no sign of an upsurge.

Hy had hit his industry between the eyes and it was done in such a
way that the marketplace was driving the demand and there was no
chance to put this rabbit back into the hat again.

By the time some of his paid hacks in Congress could get around to
passing a law against HY usage until “full research” could be done,
the damn marketplace globally would be light years ahead and not
every country was going to play ball, particularly the non industrial
countries who already did regard the Hy emergence as manna from
God.

For a moment Coldwater sat in silence as did his associates seated

around him. The wild card in the mix was the Internet and it had
succeeded in generating a global consciousness of Hy and its
amazing potential .

“ As you can all see from the Hy documents in your folder, the people
who worked on the assembly of Hy never saw their employer nor
could they tell us whether they were dealing with a man or woman.
Other than the Patent data, the Hy people are a complete mystery,
even to the point of selling the devices on their web site and
demanding a wire of funds to an offshore bank which in turn sends
the money on to a Swiss account, which Switzerland is not about to
break into without a European Union ruling which is extremely
doubtful.

So what are we left with? A new wind is now blowing ladies and
gentlemen and its called Hy and it will fundamentally change
everything we have taken for granted."

Coldwater paused and then with a sigh picked up his folder and stood
up.

“ I’m off to sell my holdings in oil before the price is in the pennies and
I recommend you all do the same. Good day."

Hiram Coldwater swept from the room and for a brief moment there
was underlying chatter at the table until one by one they all stood up
and quickly moved from the room. They had been outflanked and
any more fighting would be fruitless.

It was time to adapt to the new Hy world or go extinct. If anyone had

bothered to look out the window they would have seen several cars
moving silently down the street on Hy power.
********

24 months later William Timmons decided that the world was far
enough ahead with HY and it was safe to reveal his identity as the
person behind Hy and the billion dollar licensing deals which his
lawyers had negotiated for their unknown and unseen client.

To be on the safe side however, Timmons decided at the last moment

to hire an actor to play Timmons and paid him very well to appear in
public to an adoring crowd in front of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia,
which Timmons thought was an apt symbol to represent the new
freedom of humanity from the old world of oil and gas and coal.
It was well he had done so, as the actor was shot by a professional
sniper less than 5 minutes into his speech.

Watching from a corner of the large plaza, Timmons made a note to

himself that as far as humanity was concerned, the discoverer of Hy
had just been gunned down and of course, grateful nations began to
build large statues to him and his wonderful discovery of the Hy
principal.

The Hy foundation continued to be well run and was very powerful

with money and authority. Timmons, to be fair, hired an international
investigation firm to attempt to find the wizened scientist, who out of
the blue, had handed over to Timmons the details for the Hy principal.

He was never found, and after a while, Timmons began to wonder

whom the man was on that cold rainy morning in the early dawn
behind the wall in East Berlin, whom had just appeared out of
nowhere as Timmons walked down the street to an appointment and
then had disappeared just as quickly.

It was a mystery, but so also was the real identity of the real
discoverer of HY, as within days of the shooting, the actor was
identified by associates and a disgruntled uncle as having enough
science to place in a thimble, so over the ensuing years, Timmons
saw new statues of himself being created, all with different looks as
no one had a clue as to who he really was.

The managers of the Hy Foundation, however, were convinced that

he was alive and well somewhere, as 25% of monthly revenues were
continually directed to various offshore accounts, and someone would
occasionally exercise voting control of the Hy Foundation to the point
of management reshuffling and company direction being reset from
time to time.

60 years later, 5 years after his passing, the world found out who the
real inventor of Hy was, and for a final time, the statues were
changed once again.
