CHANGES TO BIKE WEEK EVENT

Earlier we have notified members that we will be having our bike event on 12th March. We have
decided this date as our sister organisation So Change Inc. headed by Muhammad Salman was
planning to have an event on 19th march as part of harmony week. We have been informed that their
event has been postponed for few months hence we have moved our event to 19th March.
This will fit perfectly with our Pakistan day celebration as well as harmony week. Please join us for BBQ
on 19th March from 4 7 pm at Matilda Bay, Nedlands and do not forget to bring your bikes.

GROUP UPDATE
As you will know that a few Pakistani delegates are arriving next week from Pakistan to attend a
conference in Perth, we will be hosting a dinner in the week starting 21st March.
At the same time we have sent a request to the organisers of the conference if the delegates can be
requested to donate their conference bags to us so they can be sent back to Pakistan for use in schools
in underserved areas where families cannot afford to buy a bag for their kids. The organisers have in
principle committed their support for the idea however a final confirmation is awaited.
We are also in receipt of reading glasses collected through Fillipino Australian Multicultural Association
thanks to Ms. Anita Kinkela.
And finally congrats to our secretary Fatima Khushnud who received her PhD from the University of
Western Australia last week.

MAKING US PROUD

As we celebrate Pakistan day in two weeks time, the nation owes gratitude to those who keep our
families safe. Last week four sons of the homeland sacrificed their lives and as we prepare this issue the
family of Head Constable Mian Naseem Ullah Shaheed , who tried to stop suicide bomber from entering
into session courts Shabqadar, Charsadda today and sacrificed his own life to save lives of many others.
Take some time to offer Fateha for departed souls and prayers for their families.

ACT GOVERNMENT INITIATIVE

The Government of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is encouraging people who live and study in
Canberra for 6 months to apply for permanent residency in Australia.
If you have qualifications and work experience in an occupation on the Consolidated Skilled Occupations
List (CSOL), study in Canberra for 6 months on a Student visa, and work part time while studying, the
ACT Government may nominate you for a permanent Skilled visa without leaving Australia.
To be eligible for ACT Government nomination you need to be accredited in an occupation on the CSOL,
have reasonable English, pass the visa points test, and be working part time in Canberra in one of a wide
variety of occupations including as a Waiter.
Working on a Student visa
On a Student visa you (and your partner) can work 20 hours a week and full time in course vacations. If
you enrol in a Masters course - instead of a short six month course - your partner will receive a full time
work visa. This represents a lawful back door passage to a full time work visa for your partner.
There are few restrictions on the kind of course you can take.
Canberra has three institutions of international standing: the University of Canberra, the Canberra
Institute of Technology, and the Australian National University (ANU). The ANU is a world class
university and the most highly ranked of the Australian universities. These institutions offer a wide
variety of courses from English language to short technical or business courses through to courses of
general interest and undergraduate and post graduate degrees and PHDs.
Basic requirements for the permanent visa
Qualifications and work experience related to one of the 400 occupations;
Less than 50 years of age;
Reasonable English after 6 months in Canberra (at least 6.0 in IELTS);
Pass the visa points test
The ACT Plan opens the door to the widest range of occupations ever seen in the Skilled Visa Program. It
creates a pathway to Permanent Residency for those who could not otherwise apply for a Visa.
