It Takes a Community
Community members have the opportunity
this year to start and nurture gardens for
good health. { BY STEPHANIE FARRELL }

and Dr. Seuss

ike a gardener nurturing small seeds into

plants, Kim Tomlin is sowing the idea of good
health for the area by starting a community garden. Tomlin is the store manager of UR
Hardware & General Store (formerly Shire Products on
Lincoln Avenue), now owned by John Ruga.
The idea of the community garden came about when
John was sharing the vision that he has for his new business, says Tomlin. He expressed to me that he wants to
take people back in time to old-fashioned customer service and only selling quality products that he personally
believes in. He then started telling me how he would like
to expand the garden section because the employees at
North East Precast make a large garden in his back field
every year and he would like to provide everything that
they need so they can save some money. I dont even
know if I let him finish his sentence before pitching my
idea of a community gardenI was that excited.
UR Hardware is setting up 40 plots, each five feet by
10 feet. Plots are free to non-profit groups. For individuals, there is a per plot fee of $35, but UR Hardware &
General Store will give you a $25 gift card with each paid
plot, says Tomlin. We are not trying to make money off
the garden; we are trying to enforce the commitment to
take care of it. John and I want the garden to grow. If
there is enough interest, we have even discussed adding
greenhouses for year-round gardening.
Certainly, the community gardens offer those who
have no land or limited yards an ability to have a goodsized garden. It is an inexpensive way to eat healthful
food. However, there are also benefits to those who could
or do have home gardens. One of the biggest benefits is
the sense of community.
I think its going to provide them with a social activityyou cant just have that in your backyard, says Tomlin.
Another plus is that the workload is shared.

All this month, in honor of Dr. Seuss

birthday, schools will be celebrating Read
Across America. Last week students at
Petway Elementary School participated,
with the students doing fun activities
based around the famous author, also
known as Theodor Seuss Geisel.
The activities included Crazy Sock Day
for the book Fox in Socks, Crazy Hair Day
for How The Grinch Stole Christmas,
Pajama Day for the book I am Not Getting
Up Today and Hat Day for the book The
Cat in the Hat.
The students invited community members to read to their class and held a Cat
in the Hat night featuring magician Joe
Holiday. The students also collected socks
to donate to the homeless shelter and pet
food for the SPCA. Students, staff and
community members enjoyed the week full
of reading fun, thanks to Dr. Seuss!

very so often, a press release will

come across my desk(top) that I
cannot resist making a big deal
over. In this case, I have an
opportunity to save our readers a great deal
of pain and agony, maybe even save lives.
Heres how the press release begins:
March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness
Month and Peter J. Senatore, Jr., M.D., a
colorectal surgeon at Inspira Health
Network, is trying to raise awareness of this
potentially life-threatening disease.
I would like to join Dr. Senatore is his
quest. Some 15 years ago, my mother lost
her youngest sister and I lost an aunt to
colon cancer. Already at Stage 4 when diagnosed, my aunt fought as we watched her
slip away from this terrible disease. She
was in her early 60s. More recently, a
friend who was diagnosed in her mid-40s,
left behind three daughters still at home.
Colorectal cancer is the second leading
cause of cancer deaths in the United States,
with over 56,000 people expected to die
from this disease each year, Dr. Senatore
explains in the press release. However, it
is a preventable and very curable disease if
caught early.
During Colorectal Cancer Awareness
Month, Inspira Cancer Services will be
providing community members with the
latest information on colorectal screening,
prevention, and treatment at a free seminar
on Thursday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m.
Attendees will learn about symptoms,
prevention, and risks for colorectal cancer.
Guest speakers will include Dr. Senatore
and Becky Knerr, a colorectal cancer survivor. The free seminar will be held at
Inspira Fitness Connection located at 1430
W. Sherman Avenue in Vineland.
Although free, seating is limited, so to
register, call 1-800-INSPIRA or visit
InspiraHealthNetwork.org
The benefits of early detection and
treatment are dramatic, Dr. Senatore
says. The possibility of curing patients
after symptoms develop is only 50 percent, but if colorectal cancer is found and
treated at an early stage before symptoms
develop, the opportunity to cure it is 80
percent or better.
Most colon cancers start as non-cancerous growths called polyps, Dr. Senatore
explains. If we are able to find these

polyps while they are still non-cancerous,

we remove them and the cancer may be
prevented. Major surgery can usually be
avoided, as well.
You might be wondering if I practice
what I preach. The answer is a resounding
Yes. I was already scheduled for a screening, my second in 10 years, when I received
the press release. I just got a clean bill of
health last Friday at Inspira Medical
Center, Elmer, from Dr. Riyadh Hammod.
This Friday, its my husbands turn.
I encourage others to grab someone you
love and schedule a consultation with a colorectal surgeon or gastroenterologist. You
can both get a colonoscopy on the same
dayjust be sure to bring someone along
who can drive you both home.
Or do as we did and schedule your
colonoscopies a week apart so that you can
be there for each other.
Most health insurances will pay for the
procedure for those over 50 years of age,
and may even lower your premium if you
have the procedure done.
Age 50 is the recommended age to begin
getting the screenings, earlier if you are at
risk. The American Society of Colon and
Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), which is dedicated to advancing the treatment of patients
with diseases affecting the colon, rectum
and anus, advises following specific colorectal cancer screening guidelines.
The ASCRS Screening Guidelines will
be discussed at the March 10 seminar, or
you can go over them with your doctor at
your consultation.
The guidelines include advice for people
at average risk of getting colorectal cancer,
as well as those with increased risk factors,
such as a family history of colon cancer and
other cancers. Increased risk patients may
need earlier and more frequent screening
depending upon the recommendation of
their healthcare provider.
For more information on colorectal cancer screening and prevention, speak with
your primary healthcare provider, especially if youre over 50 or suspect that you have
risk factors.
Remember that colorectal cancerthe
second leading cause of cancer deaths
nationally for both men and women combinedis preventable and 80-percent curable if found in time. I

Merighi Honored with Vocational Service Award

When it comes to doing good in
the Vineland area, Thomas Merighi,
Jr. and his family helped write the
book. Merighi recently received
some well-deserved recognition
from the Rotary Club of Vineland as
he was named its latest Vocational
Service Award winner. The presentation was made by longtime
Rotarians Charlie Loyle and Carl
Kirstein.
Merighi is the third generation of
the family business that has continued for more than 60 years as Merighis Savoy
Inn. Toms commitment to the community has come in many forms, from serving
on the boards of the YMCA, the Landis Sewerage Authority, local Chamber of
Commerce, to helping his fellow business owners and neighbors, said Vineland
Rotary Club President Wayne Triantos. He knows the needs of this community
inside out and backwards and is always among the first to volunteer to help. I
couldnt think of anyone more deserving of this award than Tom.
Other organizations in which Merighi has played a role include Italian-American
Benevolent Association, Sicilian-American Club, Buena Vista Township Economic
Development Commission, St. Augustine Prep Board of Governors, Cumberland
County Vo-Tech School Advisory Committee, and the International Game Fish
Association. In addition, Merighi and his family have helped raise funds for many
area churches and schools, the Tiny Tim Fund, the Boys & Girls Club, American
Cancer Association, and more. Merighi is married to Leanne Greenwood Merighi.
They have four children and live in Vineland.

the Centerton Country Club, he can add
Bridgeton Legend to his long list of honors and awards.
John Fuyuume was born in Los Angeles
in 1925. During the Second World War,
Fuyuume, like many other Japanese
Americans, was forcibly incarcerated in
the Gila River War Relocation Authority
site in Gila, Arizona, far from his home.
Then only 16, Fuyuume faced an uncertain
future. However, Fuyuume was one of
2,500 other Japanese Americans who were
given the opportunity to relocate to
Seabrook , New Jersey, to work for the
Seabrook Farm Company, an opportunity
that would change his life and forever
bond him to the Bridgeton area.
Fuyuume went on to earn a Bachelors
Degree in Music from the prestigious
Eastman School of Music and a Masters
Degree in Music from the University of
Rochester, both with the highest honors.
He also studied industrial engineering,
accounting and computers. Fuyuume is
past-president and past treasurer of the
Seabrook Chapter Japanese American
Citizens. Fuyuume retired as vice president of Gotaas-Larsen Shipping
Corporation of Hamilton, Bermuda, in
1990. He was married to the late Setsuko
Hada Fuyuume and now resides at
Shannondell, in Audubon, Pennsylvania.
While Fuyuume has lived a life of great

accomplishment, perhaps his crowning

achievement has been the establishment of
the Seabrook Educational and Cultural
Center (SECC). The mission and goal of
the SECC is to preserve and present the
settlement and experience of the diverse
ethnic groups, create a repository of cultural and historical materials to promote
education and research in Seabrooks multicultural heritage, and foster greater
understanding among people of diverse
cultural backgrounds. Fuyuume was past
and first volunteer Project Director of the
SECC and currently serves as Honorary
and Emeritus Trustee.
Now in its sixth year, the Greater
Bridgeton Legends event is an annual dinner
and entertainment benefit that celebrates
notable Bridgeton residents and their significant contributions to the community. This
year, in addition to Mr. Fuyuume, local
activist Gwendolyn E. Gould will also be
honored. The 2016 funding recipients are
Bridgeton Police Athletic League and Baby
Love, a program offered by CompleteCare
Health Network that supports healthy
moms and babies.
This year, the event will feature entertainment from two outstanding groups, the
Hoh Daiko drummers of Seabrook and
Zoe, a jazz group from Philadelphia.
Tickets are $50 and sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information or to purchase tickets contact Jean

31. Owners found to be in violation of
the ordinance during the annual canvass for unlicensed dogs and cats will
be issued a summons to appear in
court and face fines plus court costs.
The fee for spayed/neutered pets is
$10 per animal/per year, and the fee
for pets not spayed or neutered is $18
per animal/per year. For applications
received after March 31, the fees
increase to $13 and $21 per
animal/per year. Proof of a rabies vaccination valid through October 31 of
the licensing year is also required. If
the vaccination expires prior to that
date, the animal must receive a rabies
booster before a license is issued.
Fees collected from pet licensing
helps to support the cost of animal
control services within the City of
Vineland and the cost of annual free
rabies vaccinations clinics provided
by the city.
According to Vineland officials,
there are more than 70,000 domestic
animal bites in New Jersey every year,

families. Danny, a Pitbull male up for adoption, is approximately four years old and is
looking forward to meeting everyone and
posing with the bunny and taking part in
the egg hunt. Though he is now in a foster
home, he still is searching for a forever home.
The Cumberland County SPCA will be
running the Easter Egg Hunts for both children and dogs scheduled to start about
noon. There will be egg hunts approximately every half hour mixing between children
and canine heats so everyone can join in the
fun. The CCSPCA will also have a variety of
animals available for adoption at the event.
A major function of the Cumberland
County Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals (CCSPCA) is to provide
past, current, or future pet owners with useful information & services that will assist
them in their relationship with their pet.
Whether you want a new pet, have lost a
pet, need basic health services or cant keep
your pet any longer; they are there to help.
Their goals include finding good adoptive
homes for their shelter animals and raising
awareness in every way they can to promote
spay and neuter and fight cruelty to all animals. The CCSPCA will also be accepting
donations at the event. If anyone is getting
ready for some spring cleaning, please keep
the animals at the SPCA in mind. Donations
of fleece or flat blankets are the best, but
any blanket will do as long as its not a
stuffed comforter; the dogs like to make it
snow with the stuffing. Pampered Pup will
also have a collection box leading up to the
event in their lobby.
There will be lots of awesome activities
for everyone at the Easter Paws
Eggstravaganza. In addition to the egg
hunts, bake sale, bunny photos, and
microchipping, there will be a petting zoo
and pony rides offered by B&B Animal
Services. The food tent will be provided by
Top Dog Pizza and Burgers. There will also
be face painting offered for the children, or
anyone young at heart. Pampered Pup will
be offering stenciling for both kids and
dogs, and five dollar nail trims for the
canine guests. There will be a variety of
local vendors to enjoy, including Manninos
Cannoli Express which is sure to be a
scrumptious treat! Stop by for a great event

Well do the tilling, Tomlin says. Itll
be plant ready by April 1. They are also
providing gardening tools. Tools will be
made available during store hours. They
will be kept inside the building. The ongoing workload can be shared. I would
encourage them to form groups to share the
responsibility. In summer it can become a
daily process, at the very least for watering,
she adds. Gardeners are to commit to at
least weekly care, either from a member of
their group or by arranging to have coverage from another gardener. Another big
benefit is fencing. We are going to gate it to
keep the deer from getting in.
Tomlin also plans to host workshops
throughout the year. Starting seeds, food
prep, and preserving are a few of the ones
she has in mind. I also think itd be fun to
have painting stones for garden markers
and canvas painting for adults, she says.
The garden will follow organic practices
only. Tomlin explains that to label food
organic involves government approval
and several years of monitoring, but a key
part of the community garden is that it will
be chemical-free. Gardeners can rest
assured no pesticides will be used on their
produce.
For Tomlin, the garden is a continuation
of her journey to encourage the community
to eat better. This is not the first time I
want to change the way people think about
food, she explains. In May of 2013, I
worked alongside the store managers of the
Millville and Marmora ShopRite to add to
their selection of allergen-free and organic
options. Not all the changes that I made
stayed, but there is now an organic frozen
food section in each of the grocery stores,
which people thank me the most for.
A few months after her second child
was born, Tomlin developed food allergies.
What seemed to be overnight, I became
allergic to animal products and gluten, she
says. Unfortunately, my food allergies did
not stop developing and I am now also
allergic to corn (which is a main ingredient
in gluten-free foods). My children have
problems with food as well. The doctors
thought they had obscure allergies with
cross contamination that happens to food
during processing, preservatives or ingredients that do not even make it on to the
label. These events prompted my interest
in food and the desire to find a more natural way of eating. My mindset through
these struggles has always been that I need
to find a way to feed my kids.
Changing the way you eat is only difficult at first, she adds. The key is eating
enough so you are not hungry. My family
and I are eating well and feeling great. I
needed to learn how to cook again and did
this by making safe alternatives of the food
that I loved.

Kim Tomlin at UR Hardware & General

Store, where tools will be available during
store hours. PHOTO: DAN FARRELL

Tomlin eats curries, Eastern-style foods,

and beans. She also enjoys fruit smoothies.
I am healthier, she says. My cholesterol
dropped about 100 points and I find that I
have more energy. My diet is extreme, but it
needed to be. Taking small steps to improve
health can be done and I am here to help
by offering my experience to anyone seeking answers.
Tomlin is now a vegan, who eats only
allergen-free and organic food. We did not
have to go organic, she says, but it was a
firm decision I made the day my mom was
diagnosed with the cancer, smoldering
multiple myeloma. My mother grew up in
East Vineland on a farm and, although
there is no way of knowing for sure,
research believes that pesticides and/or
chemicals can lead to this type of cancer.
A fifth-generation farmer, Tomlin says it
was natural to her family to have a garden;
however, learning organic practices was
not the norm. Now she is fascinated with it.
Her own garden is approximately 15 feet by
30 feet. She grows chard, kale, lettuce,
tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, peppers,
cucumber, mint, and sunflowers. When her
garden is not in season, she enjoys an
organic produce delivery service. She does
not view it as expensive, particularly in
comparison to fast or frozen prepared
foods. Nutritionally, it is no contest.
She watched a TED talk (Technology,
Entertainment, Design), the popular conference-oriented video series on various
topics, this one about a community garden
in Los Angeles where the garden is located
on the sidewalk and was helping so many
families that were struggling to buy food,
she says. The idea of a community garden
stuck with me. We have so much land
around here; just imagine what a difference
can be made in not only my familys lives
but also for all of our neighbors. Community
gardens are growing good food that benefits your health and saves you money. The
responsibility is shared and its also a social
activity. I am struggling to understand why
this is not the normal way of living. I

Twice Loved Treasures

I Letters to the Editor

March Is Red Cross Month
The American Red Cross sets aside the
month of March as Red Cross Month, a
time to celebrate our everyday heroes who
help their neighbors when they need it most.
The Red Cross depends on compassionate local individuals to deliver help and
hope to people in need during an emergency. In fiscal year 2015, the Red Cross
New Jersey Region responded to 889 local
disasters such as home fires and provided
emergency assistance to 1,820 displaced
families; collected 88,439 units of blood;
provided 3,920 military family case services
with emergency messages, helping families
find assistance and/or get counseling and
referrals; and trained 117,088 individuals
with life-saving skills in preparedness,
CPR, AED use, first aid and aquatics.
March is a great time to become part of
the Red Cross. Its easy. You can make a difference in your community by signing up to
be a Red Cross volunteer, blood donor or
financial contributor by going to
redcross.org/NJ. You can also help make
your own family safer this March by taking
two simple steps: Practice your familys
fire escape plan and test your smoke
alarms. More information and free tools are
available at redcross.org/Fire Safety.
The Red Cross is not a government
agency; it relies on donations of time,
money, and blood to do its work. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red
Cross spends is invested in humanitarian
services and programs.
People can also help the Red Cross while
filing their 2015 NJ State Tax Returns.
Donations can be made by checking box 64
on the NJ-1040 Form and entering Code 14
for the American Red Cross-NJ Fund.
Thank you to all of the Red Cross supporters in New Jersey who assist their
neighbors during lifes darkest hours. We
are deeply grateful.

The Cumberland County Board of

Chosen Freeholders joined in the fight to
end homelessness in Cumberland County
by 2020 as they adopted the Homeless
Trust Fund. I want to commend Freeholder
Director Joe Derella, Freeholder Deputy
Director Darlene Barber, and Freeholders
Carol Musso, Carmen Daddario, Thomas
Sheppard, and Jim Quinn, on the passage
of the Homeless Trust Fund.
On behalf of the Board Members of the
M25 Initiative, the Cumberland County
Housing First Collaborative, the Code Blue
Coordinators of Bridgeton, Millville, and
Vineland, and the over 200 homeless men,
women, and children, I would like to thank
the Board of Chosen Freeholders in
Cumberland County for considering to be
the 10th in the State to adopt a Homeless

Trust Fund.
First, I would like to note that this Trust
Fund is not affiliated with Code Blue. Code
Blue is Gods ambulance squad and will
remain a grassroots independent churchbased organization, but we need to stop the
flow of people needing the ambulance. This
is where the Trust Fund comes into play.
Homelessness is a moral and fiscal issue
in our county. In the newspapers and on
social media, I have attempted to make the
fiscal case for the trust fund. Oliver
Wendell Holmes said, Taxes are the price
we pay for a civilized society. Our taxes
are too high because we lack the willingness, depth, and fortitude to address major
issues head on. Every decision has a cost
associated with it, but our indecision and
indifference has an even greater cost.
Every year, a chronically homeless individual cost taxpayers approximately
$25,000 to $40,000, and with nothing to
show for it. Over 50 of our chronically
homeless cycle in and out of our emergency
rooms, jails, addiction facilities and fragmented social service system. In the end,
they are still homeless and we spent
upwards of $2 million dollars with nothing
to show for it. They are still homeless and
we are still paying. Of course, these dollars
are hidden in line items for public safety,
public health, insurance, and no one wants
to touch those areas. But with five correctional facilities in our county, we must
question the wisdom and morality of our
investments and its cost to our future.
We have a choice to continue to address
homelessness on the back-end through the
criminal justice and healthcare system and
continue to pay the premium of apathy and
indifference OR you can create the Homeless
Trust Fund to partner in a proactive fashion
with best practices that have a demonstrated track record of saving money. Utilizing a
Housing First approach, we could upwards
of $500,000- get 50 people off the street
and institute best practices to prevent people
from becoming homeless in the first place.
Government will always spend money
but this expenditure is an investment that
will generate long-term savings for us all, if
it is utilized appropriately. We in the private, non-profit and religious communities,
welcome your partnership. We are not
looking to you for the solution, or even the
bulk of the resourcesbut we are seeking
your leadership by establishing this Trust
Fund (See: http://goo.gl/N1H386).
By the way, with the same zeal that I
have pursued this Fund, I will hold the
Freeholders and the Task Force accountable for the wise investment of these funds.

he recent discovery by the

Vineland Historical and
Antiquarian Society (VHAS)
that Richard Landis is the artist
responsible for the portrait of Matilda
Landis, his aunt, has considerably
increased the historical significance of the
artwork, which has hung in the Societys
Landis Room for years.
Richard, who was born in Vineland
March 22, 1873, the third child of
Vineland founder Charles K. Landis and
his wife Clara, began his artistic lessons
at an early age in Vineland. Encouraged
by his father, who believed it was important for his sons to be well-read and
engaged in artistic endeavors, Richard
continued his interest in art as a student
at the University of Pennsylvania in the
early 1890s and then made several trips
abroad to advance his studies in Germany,
Spain and Italy.
According to an article in the VHAS
archives from an unidentified and undated newspaper that clearly derives from
the same general period that produced the
Matilda painting, Charles K. Landis dedicated an evening at his home to an exhibition of Richards paintings. Landis, it is
reported, opened his home to friends, giving them the privilege of enjoying the
paintings of his artist son, Richard W. M.
Landis. Forty pieces of art were exhibited, some of them originals and some
copies of other works of art, but Matildas
portrait was not among those listed by the
newspaper. However, a painting of
Richards younger brother James was displayed that evening.
Its apparent the newspaper reporter
recognized Richards talents immediately,
proclaiming, There is in every detail
unmistakable evidence of genius and
genius of the highest orderAlthough
barely a youth, our Vineland boy has
applied himself with such earnestness
that more than forty pictures, his own
work, graced the walls of his fathers
handsome residence; and these pictures
are not crude efforts, but have the inspiration and brush of a master. Probably, the
best were the portraits; they were the
most enthusiastically praised by the connoisseurs
Richard may have been in Europe
when he painted the portrait of his aunt,
but the mystery of exactly when in 1894
he worked on the painting is open to as

much speculation as his choice of Matilda

as subject.
Its interesting that Richard would
have taken the time to paint this image of
his aunt because their relationship did
rollercoaster, said VHAS curator Patricia
Martinelli. Sometimes it was good and
sometimes it was not so good.
The curator conjectures that expediency or experimentation may account for
Richards selection of Matilda, but she
also posits that it may have been a way to
smooth the waters of a strained relationship. Tension between Richard and
Matilda certainly existed within this overall timeframe as a letter in the VHAS
archives from Charles K. Landis to
Richard in 1895 indicates: be pleasant
and kind to your aunt [Matilda]. She has
done much for us, has been your savior
and protector. Now do something for her.
I shall not only thank you, but God will
help you for it.
Its doubtful Richard felt that any help
was extended to him when, upon the
death of his father, he and his brother
James were cut out of the will. In the
ensuing legal battle, the final remnants of
his relationship with his aunt were shattered irrevocably. Matilda, who inherited
the most from Landis will, remained in
Vineland until her death in 1932; Richard
and James departed, never to return to
their hometown.
But Richards artworks have continued
to grace various exhibitions throughout
the following century with such paintings
as Still Life with Newspaper and Still Life
with Pipe and Stein, remarkable pieces
that are almost photographic in style and
that demonstrate a keen eye for detail.
Richards Grist Mill of John Roberts III,
Oak Lane, Gladwyne, Pennsylvania is
another example that suggested a promising artistic career, which was cut short
with the artists death in 1912 at the age of
39. Richards continued recognition is all
the more reason for the restoration of his
portrait of Matilda.
Ruth A. Shropshire, president of the
VHAS Board of Trustees has stated, Its
especially important to us to conserve this
painting. Were hoping that area residents
will consider donating to this project to
help Matilda get a face lift. Pledges, the
Society has said, which have helped the
VHAS in the past, are welcome, no matter what the amount. I

Code Blue. Mayor Bermudez spoke on leadership and the importance of doing
what you feel is right for the people. Most importantly, he reminded the students
the most important part of being a leader is a foundation in Jesus Christ. If it
was not for his faith, he said he would most likely not be where he is today.
Mayor Bermudez encouraged the students that with God in the picture no man
can take them down.

leven years ago, Cindy (Woods) Marks saw an opportunity. The lifelong
Cumberland County resident had become aware of a glaring absence of
fireplace retailers in the area she called home. Cindy approached her husband,
Bob, who had over 25 years experience building mantels for other fireplace stores,
about opening up their own business.
Bob jumped at the opportunity to start his own business with his wife.
Together, they opened American Fireplace. The business specializes in gas
fireplace and wood stove service and installation. For fireplaces, they offer both
pre-designed and custom models.
They also install chimneys and recently became certified for chimney sweeps,
something that requires a national recognition by the CSIA (Chimney Safety Institute
of America).
They can meet all of your fireplace and wood stove needs.

arol A. Deola, a retired teacher of 33 years, originally began All Kids First Preschool
in September of 1999, as an Abbott school center, servicing children ages 35. Many
parents began to voice their need for infant care so in 2007 Carol decided to expand and
open infant rooms providing care for babies until they were ready for preschool. Within the
next two years these infant rooms were filled to capacity. A new facility for private childcare
was purchased to accommodate the need for more children and space.
All Kids First II is a childcare center for infants, toddlers, preschool children who reside
in or out of the Vineland District. All Kids First II is open all year from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
and is located at 1321 Stewart Street in Vineland, NJ, which is off Magnolia Road.
All Kids First Preschool provides a program that is developmentally appropriate and
gives attention to the needs and development of these very young children. All Kids First
Preschool has achieved National Accreditation through the nations leading organization
for early childhood educators.
Children are grouped according to their age with the very special care that is required
for your child. With trained caregivers and an environment that is safe and provides
educational activities, your childs physical, emotional, and social skills will be addressed.
All Kids First... a place to learn, a place to grow and belong, a place to love with
caregivers and professionals who provide the very best care and attention for your child.

ir Speedy Printing is a print, sign, and marketing company. The business was
started in 1980 by Orville and Ginger Chase. The business has approximately
six employees. The Chases retired in 2014 and the business was bought by Ann
Bauman, who's niece Alison Trovarelli had worked for the Chases for 20 years.
Alison is now the Operations Manager. Sir Speedy has expanded their product line
with signs and banners by purchasing a 64-inch wide-format Latex printer.
Sir Speedy is changing their direction a bit. They still do offset printing, Digital
printing, mailings and promotional items, but now they are moving forward with signs,
banners, vinyl lettering, and all phases of signage.
