The use of birth control

Introduction
Birth control also known by the name of fertility control or the pregnancy prevention with a
particular method. It is even known by the name of contraception, as it is what the birth
control mechanism does; they do not allow the sperm and egg from meeting to develop a
fertilized embryo. With the due passage of time, there has been less interest in this topic
owing to the strong awareness. However, the debates are still in progress it is yet to be
decided which the best method of birth control is. Furthermore, the cost of birth control, its
impact, etc. are still a matter to discuss.
The control of fertility influences the well-being of society, men, women, etc by stressing on
methods and procedure to avoid the unwanted pregnancies. In fact, planned fertility
influences the childrens health, longevity, and well-being of women. An access to birth
control is the need of the hour as it leads to family planning, size and children spacing
(Aharon, 2012). Moreover, birth control is another important step that reduces the chronic
illness and even the maternal death.
Therefore, birth control is an essential step that helps to prevent unwanted pregnancy and is a
strong step that goes in favour of the entire humanity. Various debates prevail over the matter
of birth control. I agree with the concept of birth control as it of utmost importance to the
humanity and play a leading role in population control. The following are the major reasons
why it is considered as important:

Control of fertility
Fertility control is an important aspect of birth control. Birth control helps in controlling the
fertility through the implementation of various mechanisms. It leads to stoppage of unwanted

pregnancies. Control of fertility implies that the women have appropriate control over the
fertility and it helps in reducing the pregnancy situations. Unplanned pregnancies are a big
risk to the child and the women. On a global perspective, it is witnessed that around 210
million women are pregnant each year and among that, 40 percent are unplanned in nature. In
case of United States, 49% of pregnancies are unplanned in nature. According to researches,
it is evident that unplanned pregnancies lead to unwanted impact and that is on not only the
women, but also the families (Aharon, 2012).

Reduction of risk
Birth control is a strong step towards elimination of risk. Pregnancies those are unplanned in
nature leads to a huge problem for the women and the child. This also attracts depression,
physical issues, and even maternal death at times. There is also a risk associated with
pregnancies that are linked closely. Hence, in order to reduce this risk, birth control is a vital
step and ward off danger such as low birth, chances of death, low access to healthy
development. It is to be noted that unplanned pregnancies can have long lasting impact on the
health of the mother and this in turn affects the well-being of the family (Silverman, 2015).
Hence, birth control tends to lessen the danger and safeguards the family. This is of vital
importance to the family with economic resources because unplanned pregnancies can lead
the family into the cycle of poverty and lessen he opportunities.

Prevention of disease
Birth control has lead to prevention of disease in the long run. Birth control is a major
landmark in case of humanity. The availability of birth control products has provided ease
and better assess to this mechanism. Though the main function of birth controlling of fertility
yet it helps a lot in the reduction of sexual transmitted infections and HIV. The presence of

options of contraceptive enables women to enhance the advantages of birth control and
minimize any danger.

Healthy pregnancy
Evidence proves that birth control helps in proper birth spacing, timely, as well as proper
parental care. Pregnancies that happen in a short span of time leads to various disadvantages
like low birth weight, infant death, preterm birth, etc. Without the presence of birth control,
there are various problems associated with pregnancy and even the risk of infant mortality is
high (Silverman, 2015). When the pregnancy is planned, it leads to better aspect for the
females, as well as the family as a whole. Healthy pregnancy is ensured when the unwanted
pregnancy is eliminated. This is done through the method of birth control. Birth control leads
to healthy pregnancy, as there is no place for unwanted pregnancies. This leads to betterment
of the child and the mother.

Sexual freedom
Birth control has given new dimensions to the females. The presence of birth control pills is
an important tool of the birth control. Before the introduction of control pills, there was a
danger of sexual relationship as it could lead to unwanted pregnancy. In fact, birth control has
helped women to take initiative of their own lives and reduced the fear to a considerable
extent (Darney & Philip, 2010). The presence of pills has provided a new dimension to the
lives of women. It has also helped in eliminating various transmitted diseases that was a curse
for the society as a whole.

Independence
The procedure of birth control has instilled the factor of independent in women. Women those
who wanted to have sex before the concept of birth control used to have it after marriage.
Even married women faced a lot of problem without the presence of alternate methods like
pills, condoms, etc. However, the presence of birth has been a boon to the society and the
methods can be used with ease and flexibility. The presence of pills ensures that the women
can use the pills and have sex when they want without any sort of fear. Birth control has
provided new wings to women as they live single and can be engaged to their work. This has
led to an independent living and can give wings to their career (Darney & Philip, 2010).

Greater role for the Women

Before the advent of birth control, the career, and the success of the women was under big
threat. Women who were in greater position were impacted in a negative way without the
presence of birth control method. After the introduction of the birth control and contraceptive
pills, women assumed a special place. Previously women assumed only the position of a
mother and a wife. However, it had limitation because without the presence of adequate birth
control methods and techniques they were helpless. However, the presence of birth control
has provided women a better place in the society (Aharon, 2012). They are able to reduce the
limitations and act according to their whims. Birth control is rightly a big boon to the women
and has uplifted their status in the society.

Family formation and well-being

Birth control has led to formation of a family that is in tune with the status of the family.
Women have a good control over pregnancy and therefore, there is no pressure on them to
have child continuously (Stubblefield & Ronkary, 2011). This has led to the development of a
5

strong family. It has been noted that when family planning is done it leads to better result.
Not only it affects the well-being of the family in terms of health but also benefit the family
financially. Therefore, birth control goes a long way and has supported the cause of women in
a strong manner.

Conclusion
It can be concluded that birth control has provided a strong support to women. Through the
utilization of birth control, it comes easier for women to plan, as well as keep a tab on their
pregnancies. This has a meaningful effect on women. Pregnancy planning enhances the
overall status of women, as well as the society. Moreover, birth control has led to
advancement of the health and well-being. Birth control is a big step and needs the support of
the society. Hence, birth control can be said to be a shield that protects the community of the
women and plays a leading role in their advancement.
