Greater Sekhukhune District’s

draft IDP/Budget for 2010/2011 During the past week the Mayor of Greater Sekhukhune District Municipality
explained the draft budget of the district to communities, interest groups, mining houses
and traditional leaders in the various local municipalities at consultative meetings.
Councillor Mogobo David Magabe visited Praktiseer on Monday where the budget was
discussed at the CN Pathudi Ca,mpus of the Sekhukhune FET College.
As the graphs explain, the total bidget comprises about R725,5 million rand, while the
capital budget amounts to R363 million and the operating budget about R362 million,
meaning that the money to be spent, will be split almost equal between the two budgets.
The district major income is still from external sources such as grants from other
government spheres. The graphs show clearly that a massive amount will be spent on
water throughout the district municipality.
Councillor Magabe also announced that tariffs levied for servives rendered by the
district will rise with an average of 11 percent. He explained that the purpose of tariffs
are to recover the actual costs of the rendering of services.
If a service is rendered at a loss, cross subsidation of such loss by another service will
be necessary. This will place a burden on the tariff structure of the other service.
Despite the rains, quite a number of people turned up for the meeting.

Councillors, officials and the public attended Monday’s IDP/Budget consultative meeting in
Praktiseer, rain did not deter the audience.

ATM bombing seems to be still a favourite of thieves

n Pay store in Steelpoort was blown up during the night
and the Police were still busy at the crime scene when
Platinum Gazette visited the scene just before going to
press yesterday morning. More details on the blast was not
available at that stage.

Twickenham committed to community
upliftment and development
Twickenham Platinum Mine demonstrated
its committment to community
development again last week Friday when
the general manager, Mr Francois Uys,
invited community representatives from
traditional authorities, schools and
business to his bi annual breakfast and
community builder awards function.
As an introduction to the function Mr
Uys gave his guests, who included the
Executive mayor of Greater Sekhukhune
District Municipality, Mogobo Davad
Magabe, and Greater Tubatse Municipality
mayor, Ralepane Mamekoa, an overview of
progress with the development of the mine.
He demonstrated that the mine is
committed to local employment with more
than 70 percent of ordinary personnel
recruited locally.
He said that although just more than
20 percent of management staff was
employed from local candidates, the low
percentage primarily because of a lack of
skills and not policy and that the mine will
strive to improve this figure in the future.
He gave his guests a detailed
breakdown of social reponsibility projects
the mine completed during the past year
and gave them an overview of what was
planned for the future. During his

community invoolvement and upliftment,
thanking the mine for giving attention to
specific areas of need in the immediate
vicinity of the mine.
He stressed that government and
business should work together to let people
reap the benefit of the areas economic
progress. After the speeches the function
progressed to the handing over of
community awards to members of the
community who excelled on various
terrains during the year.
Soccer balls were also donated to the
two mayors to donate on their part where
they see the need, while guests also
received soccer jerseys in anticipation of
the Soccer World Cup which starts in less
than 50 days.

All Gold, all good! goodness!

1908 was the year that saw the launch of a South African icon, All Gold Tomato Sauce. The secret
and unique recipe was brought to SA by Scottish Chemist John Semble for production by H Jones
and Company, a jam manufacturing company in Paarl. From humble beginnings in the Western
Cape this well-loved product was originally manufactured by lowering muslin bags filled with
herbs and spices into pots of ripe freshly crushed tomatoes. In 1927 it became the OK Bazaars
best seller.
In 1947 on the first visit to South Africa by reigning monarch King George VI, Queen Elizabeth and
Princess Margaret, they were treated to the delights of All Gold on the Royal Train. By 1959 mass
production of All Gold Tomato sauce commenced in Paarl and Langlaagte.
1975 saw the first print communication around All Gold’s “Crammed Full” and “Fresh” qualities.
1976-1978 Marked the introduction of TV into South Africa and the first “motherbrand” All Gold
television commercial. This commercial featured tomatoes literally jumping into a bottle of All
Gold Tomato Sauce and strawberries jumping into a can of jam.
From 1908 to 1985, 250 million bottles of All Gold Tomato Sauce were sold which was a sufficient
number of bottles to circle the globe one and a half times.
In 1990 the company launched All Gold’s famous giant bottle commercial which featured children
“cramming” big tomatoes into a giant All Gold bottle. This ad established the fact that All Gold
Tomato sauce contains “36” tomatoes.

In 1992 All Gold wins Gold at the Monde Quality Awards in Brussels which affirmed the quality of
All Gold products from a dietary perspective. Expansion was not left behind. In 1993 production
commenced at a brand new plant in Boksburg. The launch of the new All Gold Hot and Spicy
Tomato Sauce variant also took place in that year.
In the year 2000 All Gold Pasta Pronta was launched - the 4 tomato based variants were the first
ready to eat pasta sauces on the market. In 2003 All Gold launches 4 new cream based Pasta

Crime: are we and government doing enough?

Crime, and especially serious and violent crime is something that happens
all too often. It is a favourite subject in many social circles and often
people feel that the government is not doing enough to protect them. The
other side of the coin is that there are certain structures such as
Community Policing Forums in which residents can become involved and
play a role. We asked readers whether they believe SAPS statistics are
true reflections of crime and if government is doing enough to keep
everyone safe, but also whether we are involved enough.

SAPS keeping fit
A combined soccer team from Burgersfort, Tubatse and Leboeng
SAPS played a friendly game against Mecklenburg SAPS on
Wednesday afternoon.
In the first half both teams managed to score one goal. In the
second half the Combined team scored four more goals. Four of
the total five goals was scored by Const. Maganyane of Tubatse
SAPS. The fifth was scored by Const. Moshala of Burgersfort.The
game ended 5-1 in favour of the Combined team.

Historic victory for

Ford on the Toyota
Dealer 400
Lydenburg - Former South African
champions Neil Woolridge and Kenny
Skjoldhammer made off road racing history
with a dramatic Production Vehicle category
victory for Ford on the Toyota Dealer 400,
round two of the Absa Off Road Racing
Championship on Saturday.
It was the first ever Absa series victory for
a diesel powered car with Woolridge and
Skjoldhammer bringing their factory Ford
Racing Ranger TDCi home two minutes and
27 seconds ahead of two more former SA
champions, Hannes Grobler and Hennie ter
Stege, in the RFS Toyota Hilux. After a third
place on the recent Adenco 400 in the
Western Cape unofficial scoring has Grobler
and ter Stege leading the Production Vehicle
championship.
In a dramatic finish reigning SA drivers
champion Duncan Vos and Rob Howie
nipped in ahead of Castrol Toyota Hilux
team-mates Anthony Taylor and Robin
Houghton to take the final podium position.
Taylor/Houghton bogged down at a river
crossing only kilometres from the finish, and
limped home fourth ahead of George
Barkhuizen and David van Wyck in the AIM
Toyota Hilux. Pretoria crew Johan van
Staden and James Rossouw wrote their
names into the off road record books when
they won the Special Vehicle category at the
Toyota Dealer 400, round two of the Absa
Off Road Championship, here today. Van
Staden and Rossouw, in the KEC BAT,
became the first Class P crew to win an Absa
series event overall. In a stunning
performance van Staden/Rossouw outlasted
a string of more fancied premier Class A
crews.
The pair came in just over 13 minutes ahead
of the father and son team of Hermann and
Wichard Sullwald in the Sullwald Racing
SVR. For the Sullwald’s it was only their
second outing in the car and they had plenty
in hand over another father/son combination
in Nick and Ryan Harper (Atlas Copco BAT)
who completed the podium positions.

BUFC the
runners-up
Burgersfort United Football Club
(BUFC) participated in the Piet Retief
Soccer Tournament last weekend.
The team played against Witbank
first and kept the score at 1-0 until the
last 10 minutes. Witbank came in
strong and the game ended 2-1 in
favour of Witbank.
The next game was BUFC against
Piet Retief B. This was a walk over.
After this, the team faced a team from
Middelburg. They won the game 4-1.
The final was between BFUFC and
Witbank on Sunday, 18 April.
BUFC lost 1-0 to become the
tournament runners-up.
The team will face Dresden
Superstars tonight. They will play at
the Laerskool Burgersfort grounds.
Supporters are welcome to come and
encourage their teams. New players are

Mayor’s Cup started

The first round of the Greater Sekhukhune
District Mayor’s Cup soccer tournament took
place last weekend.
On Saturday local teams played at
Ntwampe and although the first game
started more than two hours late, the teams
were not discouraged to give their best.
First Maatlopo United faced Tubatse
United. Tubatse United won 3-2. The second
game was played between Mooihoek Eleven
Experience and Mooihoek Real Touch. Real
Touch won 3-0. The third game of the day
was Ngwaabe City Motors against Moretheto
SBO. City Motors won 1-0.
The last game between Phasha City
Rocks and Nchabeleng Young Stars was
abandoned due to poor light and rain. It was
rescheduled to take place this coming
weekend. It will be played at Ntwampe at
15:00. At 13:00 Tubatse United will face
Mooihoek Real Touch in the semi-finals.
