Death to
Life, Part
1 (Just
Jesus
Evangelis
tic
Campaig
n, Day
54)
TEXT:
John
5:24-27
24 Verily,
verily, I
say unto
you, He
that
heareth
my word,
and
believeth
on him
that sent
me, hath
everlasti
ng life,
and shall
not come
into
condemn
ation; but
is passed
from
death
unto life.
25 Verily,
verily, I
say unto
you, The
hour is
coming,
and now
is, when
the dead
shall
hear the
voice of
the Son
of God:
and they
that hear
shall live.
26 For as
the
Father
hath life
in
himself;
so hath
he given
to the
Son to
have life
in
himself;
27 And
hath
given
him
authority
to
execute
judgment
also,
because
he is the
Son of
man.
----------
Today, I
am
continuin
g the
daily Just
Jesus
Evangelis
tic
Campaig
n sermon
series,
which is
aimed at
sharing
the
Gospel of
the Lord
Jesus
Christ
with
unbelieve
rs and
remindin
g
Christian
s, in this
important
election
year, to
keep the
main
thing the
main
thing -and that
is
reaching
unbelieve
rs with
the
Gospel of
the Lord
Jesus
Christ
and
praying
for their
salvation,
for the
problem
in
America
is not
only
disobedie
nt
president
s
politician
s, and
people,
but
disobedie
nt
pastors,
preacher
s, and
parishion
ers who
have
refused
to obey
the
Lords
Great
Commiss
ion which
is to, Go
ye
therefore,
and teach
all
nations
and who
have
refused
to obey
God's
repeated
comman
ds to
"pray
without
ceasing"
for
unbelieve
rs,
believers,
and
political
leaders.
Yes, you
should
pray for
the right
candidate
to win;
yes, you
should
vote for
the
candidate
that the
Lord
gives you
peace
about
voting
for. But,
don't get
caught
up in it
like the
world
does.
Nothing
much is
going to
change
until
people
get saved
and get
their
hearts
right with
the Lord.
This
campaign
is
inspired
by the
following
three
verses: 1
Corinthia
ns 2:2
which
says,
"For I
determin
ed not to
know
anything
among
you, save
Jesus
Christ,
and him
crucified.
" Acts
5:42
which
says,
"And
daily in
the
temple,
and in
every
house,
they
ceased
not to
teach and
preach
Jesus
Christ."
And 2
Timothy
2:4 which
says, "No
man that
warreth
entanglet
h himself
with the
affairs of
this life;
that he
may
please
him who
hath
chosen
him to be
a
soldier."
This
series is
not for
Christian
s
necessari
ly.
However,
I do hope
you are
one of
those
saints
who still
loves to
hear the
"Old, old
story of
Jesus
and His
love" -As
another
hymn
says,
"For
those
who
know it
best
Seem
hungerin
g and
thirsting
to hear it
like the
rest."
This
series is
primarily
for
unbelieve
rs, so
they can
hear and
understa
nd the
Gospel
and be
saved
from sin
and the
punishm
ent of sin
which is
hell. This
is
message
number
54.
Adam
Clarke
said,
"Death is
the
country
where
every
Christles
s soul
lives. The
man who
knows
not God
lives a
dying life,
or a
living
death;
but he
who
believes
in the
Son of
God
passes
over from
the
empire of
death, to
the
empire of
life."
The day
we are
born, we
begin to
die. Life
is one
long,
unyieldin
g march
toward
our
eventual
terminati
on. Old
or young,
rich or
poor,
educated
or
uneducat
ed, we
know
deep
down
that one
day we
must face
death.
Which is
why we
spend so
much of
our time
trying to
avoid and
delay it.
Many in
our
society
have one
main goal
-- to live
as long
as
possible
with as
little pain
as
possible.
Of
course,
at some
point, if
we are
blessed
enough
not to die
in a
tragedy
or some
natural
disaster,
our
efforts
become
futile and
we
simply
die. We
succumb
to the
inevitable
.
Yet, here
in our
passage
today, we
find
Jesus
talking
about
"everlasti
ng life"
and how
to get it.
What
kind of
life is
this?
This life
is
spiritual
union
with God
that lasts
forever. It
is the
only way
to live
beyond
the point
of death.
Those
who do
not have
a
relations
hip with
God are
already
dead
spirituall
y and,
one day,
will be
permane
ntly dead
physicall
y.
However,
those
who do
have a
relations
hip with
God have
"everlasti
ng life."
They are
spirituall
y alive
right now
and, after
they die,
they will
be
permane
ntly
physicall
y
resurrect
ed. So,
how can
one have
this
"everlasti
ng life">
Jesus
says,
"Verily,
verily, I
say unto
you, He
that
heareth
my word,
and
believeth
on him
that sent
me, hath
everlastin
g life..."
"Verily,
verily"
means
"truly,
truly."
What
Jesus is
about to
say is
very
important
, and,
most
important
ly, it is
true.
"He that
heareth
my word"
-- that is,
Jesus'
word.
The
transition
from
death to
life can
only
begin by
hearing
Jesus'
word.
One
cannot
come to
the
knowledg
e of
salvation
and
eternal
life on his
or her
own. It is
simply
impossibl
e. Man
has tried
many
ways to
get to
God -doing
good
works,
attending
religious
services,
meditatio
n,
philosop
hy, giving
money to
the poor,
etc. -- but
none of
that will
give you
eternal
life.
Jesus
Christ is
the only
one who
can give
eternal
life, and
that
begins by
listening
to Jesus.
Jesus
says we
must
hear His
word and
"believe
on him
that sent
me." Who
sent
Jesus?
God did.
Thus, we
must
believe
on God in
order to
be saved.
But John
3:16 says
we must
believe
on Jesus.
Is there a
contradic
tion
here? No,
there is
not. As
Jesus
indicated
in the
previous
verses,
He and
God the
Father
are one
and the
same.
They are
unified. If
you
believe
on Jesus,
you are
believing
on God. If
you truly
believe
on God,
you are
believing
on Jesus.
And, it is
that
belief
that will
give you
everlastin
g life.
Jesus
says the
person
who
believes
"hath
everlastin
in the
future,
but has it
right
now. The
moment
you
believe in
Jesus,
you have
everlastin
g life.
Jesus
says this
person
also
"shall not
come
into
condemn
ation."
What is
condemn
ation?
Condemn
ation is
judgment
for sin. If
you hear
Jesus'
word and
place
your faith
and trust
in Him,
you will
not suffer
the
eternal
punishm
ent that
you
deserve
due to
your sins
because
Jesus
has
already
suffered
and paid
for your
sins on
the
cross.
You will
no longer
appear
guilty
before
God, but
perfectly
innocent
because
of Jesus.
Jesus
says the
person
who
hears
Him and
believes
on God
"is
passed
from
death
unto life."
"Is
passed"
is
present
tense.
The
moment
you
believe,
you
possess
everlastin
g life:
you have
left
behind
the realm
of the
dead and
now exist
in the
realm of
the living.
Imagine a
person
standing
on one
side of a
line in the
ground.
The line
marks
the
boundary
between
two
countries
. All this
person
has to do
to leave
one
country
and be in
another
country
is step
across
the line.
As soon
as he
takes a
single
step, he
is in the
other
country.
The
question
is: Will
you be
the
person
who
takes the
step
across
the line?
Will you
pass
from
death to
life
instantly
today by
trusting
Christ as
saviour?
If you
have not
yet
believed
on Jesus
Christ as
your
Saviour,
the Bible
also says
in
Romans
10:9 and
13: "That
if thou
shalt
confess
with thy
mouth
the Lord
Jesus,
and shalt
believe in
thine
heart that
God hath
raised
him from
the dead,
thou
shalt be
saved....
For
whosoev
er shall
call upon
the name
of the
Lord
shall be
saved."
If you
believe
that
Jesus
Christ
died on
the cross
for your
sins, was
buried,
and rose
from the
dead, and
you want
to trust
Him for
your
salvation
today,
please
pray with
me this
simple
prayer:
Holy
Father
God, I
realize
that I am
a sinner
and that I
have
done
some bad
things in
my life. I
am sorry
for my
sins, and
I want to
turn from
my sins.
For
Jesus
Christ
sake,
please
forgive
me of my
sins. I
now
believe
with all of
my heart
that
Jesus
Christ
died for
me, was
buried,
and rose
again. I
trust Him
as my
Savior
and
follow
Him as
Lord
from this
day
forward.
Lord
Jesus,
please
come
into my
heart and
save my
soul and
change
my life
today.
Amen.
Dear
friend, if
you are
willing to
believe
on the
Lord
Jesus
Christ for
salvation,
please
pray with
me this
simple
prayer:
Heavenly
Father, I
realize
that I am
a sinner
and that I
have
done
some bad
things in
my life.
For
Jesus
Christ
sake,
please
forgive
me of my
sins. I
now
believe
with all of
my heart
that
Jesus
Christ
died for
me, was
buried,
and rose
again.
Lord
Jesus,
please
come
into my
heart and
save my
soul and
change
my life
today.
Amen.
If you
believed
in your
heart that
Jesus
Christ
died on
the
cross,
was
buried,
and rose
again,
allow me
to say,
congratul
ations on
doing the
most
important
thing in
life and
that is
accepting
Jesus
Christ as
your Lord
and
Saviour!
