Mrs. Maricor U. Sanchez

Mrs. Rosalina Magalong, decided to put up a small business as

their source of income. It was 1973 when she named her small store
as Rose Sari-sari Store; t he name ROSE was clearly derived from
her name ROSALINA. The main purpose of the business is to earn

profit that would sufficiently provide their daily needs and even for
the future of her three kids. Aside from this reasons, she put up a
store because she saw the demand of her neighbours for goods that
can be bought nearby their place. The one and only store of Mrs.
Magalong became seven stores by 1983. As she grows older, she
decided to give the seven stores to her kids.
It was 1997 when her children converted the stores into
supermarts to make it more convenient for everyone. The seven
ROSE STORES turned into

two ROSE SUPERMARTS, bigger and finer

than before.
One

of the supermarts is owned by Mrs. Marie Magalong and

the other one which is bigger than the first is a property of Mr.
Marlon Magalong.

C. How do you manage your
business?

Mr. Marlon Magalong said:

Advertising our supermart is necessary to attract future and
continued business. This may be radio and newspaper ads.
Ordering supplies is part of managing a business. As the
manager, I must keep the business operating to make money.

This means keeping an inventory and detailing what is being

spent and what is needed to keep the business operating every
week or month.
Recruiting employees are another aspect of managing my
business. Along with this process come keeping daily time sheets
and assigning job duties. I can say that, this is a critical part of the
business.
Keeping a record of daily receipts, cashing out cash registers and
bookkeeping are parts of managing a business. Along with these
responsibilities comes daily banking and money counting
experiences.
Organization skills are important. The ideal candidate will be able
to be friendly, but yet give direction with authority. Customer and
employee relations are needed to succeed managing a business.
Keeping detail records of cleaning schedules is important to our
business. Presenting a professional environment is important to
attract people. It would be more convenient to see a supermart
which is very clean and very organize. Hiring a person for
cleaning or distributing cleaning duties is necessary.
D. Problems you had encountered

Mr. Marlon Magalong said:

Before and at the middle of the business, expect that you will
encounter many problems, whether you like it or not. I have very
limited time for everything because of the responsibilities I have. I
am a husband, father, manager of our businesses and director of
the CENPELCO; I dont even have time to do new things because
of this reasons.

Because I have responsibilities to my wife and to my children, I

have to provide their everyday needs, as a consequence their will
be a competition between our needs and the supermart needs.
Instead of keeping the profit, I have to spend it to make sure that
my family will be in a good state.
One of our problems also is the unexpected calamities like the
typhoon CosMe. We have to keep and maintain good facilities of
the supermart, due to this sudden typhoon it may break and
shatter the said facilities that may also lead for us to spend
money to fix and repair it. Because of the typhoon CosMe, I had
spent Php. 100 000.00 to repair the facilities of the supermart.
The biggest problem we have is our rivals in this kind of business.
The small store, CSI, and Magic are all rivals of Rose Supermart.
We have to compete and have a race with our rivals or else we
have to prepare for our extinction in the world of business.
We had also considered our losses as one of our main problems,
losses in terms of the case of shoplifting and the stealing of our
stocks in the bodega and even by the truck dealers. I may
E. Solution to the said problem
conclude that 1% of our losses came from the shoplifters.

Mr. Marlon Magalong said:

Time management is very important especially for every person
who involved themselves in the world of business. The hectic
schedule must be managed and be handled very well.
Regular auditing is a must. Updating of records is done on daily
basis. This way, we can track where our business is heading and
necessary solutions may be implemented in case the result is not
that bright. Also, it is only in this manner that we can hunt down
our expenses and gain during a period.

New gimmicks or propagandas are always welcome in a business.

Let it known to the customers that Rose Grocery is very much
alive and the right place to go.
Expansion is also embraced by the management. Today, Rose
Grocery is the sole distributer of Selecta Ice Cream not only in
Pangasinan, but also in nearby places within the region, Baguio,
and Tarlac.
Employees are given their fair share in terms of benefits and
salary. They are treated not only as kapamilya, but also as
kapuso.
Customers as well as employees caught stealing are punished
according to the dictate of the law. This will serve as a warning to
others not to make the same mistake.
Insurances are paid on time. They are a big help in time of crisis.

F. Advice for the young

entrepreneurs:
An entrepreneur should be hardworking, persistent and
very prudent in holding the capital of the business. He
knows how to manage the business and how to think
posssible solutions and alternatives to the problems that
may possibly arise. Know everything, be knowledgable
enough in handling your business. You have to focus your
attention and be aware to every situation that be may
encountered. Have the guts and the spirit in running and
supervising your business. An Entrepreneur is somebody

with a vision. Entrepreneurs can have many varying

qualities but they all have clarities of thought that
enables them to identify an opportunity and 'see' the
potential.
All Entrepreneurs are also consumed by their passion for
their vision. This obsessive trait provides them with a
