The cost of obedience

Case study:

1 Jesus in a dying moment in the garden of Gethsemane (Luke 22:40-44)

2. Jonah’s contention with God’s will (Jonah 1:1-17; 2:1-10)
3. Moses in the burning bush, trying to argue away from the instruction of God (Exodus
2:23-25; 3:1-22; 4:1-20).
4. Abraham sacrificed his son, Isaac (Genesis 22:1-18).

Obedience to God is a very strong decision to make in life. Naturally, nobody can.
Obeying God at the expense of one’s joy, happiness and will is the greatest point of death
to oneself. As I said, it is not easy naturally, but it is also the greatest point of one’s
breakthrough in life.

Obedience can cost you your joy, ego, comfort, popularity, or temporal pleasure. The
good thing is that God rewards every single step of obedience (Job 36:11; Deuteronomy
28:1-14).

We grow in obedience. Every time we disobey the instructions of God, we are chastised
by Him (Hebrews 12:5-11).

Divine chastisement is never funny. It can lead to complain, murmur, or bitterness against
God, but it produces the best character in us, if we can develop the spirit of gratitude and
patience by virtue of the understanding that such ugly experience is a chastisement from
the Lord.

God’s wrath is always temporal; His mercies endure forever. King David will tell you
better (Psalms 30:5-12). Every time we cry to God sincerely, His mercy will always
prevail over judgment.

When God chastises you in His wrath, be sure that once you realize your mistake and
repent of it remorsefully, you will be in for the great move of His fatherly love and mercy
in the positive direction (Romans 9:16).

Disobedience is more costly than obedience. Read Deuteronomy 7:7-15; 28:15-48; Job
36:12; Proverbs 1:24-33.

Everyone who has tested the bitter end of disobedience can tell that it is not funny at all.
According to Dr. Mike Murdock, disobedience creates an unending parade of prejudice.
The only way to avert the trend of the consequences of disobedience is to go to the throne
room of mercy in order to receive mercy from God through the blood of Jesus Christ
(Hebrews 4:16). God is ever waiting for us at the throne room of His mercy and grace.
That is where His mercy sit resides. We can always be saturated with the abundance of
His mercy in the throne room, where it overflows, if we cry unto God for His mercy.

Your days of light will come again! Your joy can start overflowing again! Your spirit-
man can receive life (Zoë) again, if it is dead (disconnected from divine fellowship) as a
result of disobedience and your fellowship can begin again with the trinity.

Remember, gifts and calling of God are without repentance, but grace (divine favor,
power, anointing, or divine ability) can be breached by disobedience. Life can be a bunch
of struggle when disobedience sets in (Proverbs 13:15), but when the door of grace is re-
opened, life can again become interesting (Job 14:7-9).

If you have been disobedient, have you not wallowed in that forest of frustration and
sorrow for too long? Why not take a ‘U’ turn towards the mercy sit. I believe that God is
sending me at this awesome time for your very sake. I, therefore, adjure you to come
back to Him in humility. He will abundantly pardon (Isaiah 55:6, 7).
