Project Title: HYDRO-ELECTRIC GENERATOR

Physics Related Topics: Fluids in motion, Fluids Statics, Electricity
Project Overview:
A machine generally powered by waters flow, making the device
spin at a certain speed enough for the motor connected to the device to
generate electricity. Well convert the ceiling fan into a device that will be
powered by a mechanical input to have an electrical output.

IV.

Project Rationale:
This Hydro-Electric Generator will provide electricity to remote areas which
has an abundant supply of fresh/saltwater throughout the country. The abundant
supply of water will be used to generate the electricity. This device can be afford by
almost all families in the country, even those families earning P5000- P7000 month.
This machine will provide electricity for 1-2 LED bulbs but in areas where electrical
companies cant reach. Having this machine in their home definitely makes a
difference.

V.

Project Terminologies:
1. Generator a machine that produces electricity
2. Hydroelectric of or relating the production of electricity by using te
3. Transformer a device that changes the voltage of an electric current

Project Design/Methodology:
Using a standard 3 leaves-5 leaves ceiling fan, were going to transform it from
(electrical input-mechanical output) to (mechanical input-electrical output) using the
flow of water. How are we going to make it?

First, detach the blades/leaves at the fan. Detach also the other parts which is the
one holding it with the hook. Leave only the body of the fan.
Second, we build the casing that will hold the body of the fan. And also we are
going to build the device that will be attached to the body of the fan which will catch
the flow of water. To make this, were going to use empty cans of milk and the flat
seam for the casing.
To make the DEVICE, were going to use 2 empty cans of milk. First cut
out/remove the upper and bottom lid of the can. Second, cut the can vertically and
flatten it. Third, cut the can to 8 equal pieces starting from upper to lower lid. These 8
pieces will serve as the fins for the other empty can. They will be joined by using lead
wire & soldering iron. When they are joined together, we will make a hole in the
center of the upper and lower lid of the can up to the other side. After this, we will
insert a metal tubing into the hole all the way to the other hole. Then fix it in place.
This metal rod will be connected to the body of the fan.
To make the CASING were going to use the flat seam. The casing will envelope
the milk can. Well make 2 holes in it where the metal rod will be inserted. The casing
will hold the device when it rotates. In the casing well put PBC tube perpendicular to
the can facing the fins. This tube will be connected to the reservoir/water drum. The
water drum will provide the appropriate water flow needed for the device to rotate at
the minimum RPM for the motor to generate electricity.
To make the WATER DRUM, well need a drum. Well make 2 holes big enough
for the tube to fit & tight enough for the tube to be water tight. Well use epoxy to
seal the leakage in the tube connection.
When the device, casing and drum are joined together, well now focus on the
circuit from the motor. There will be an output wire which will be connected to a
transformer. The transformer will reduce/increase the voltage of the electric output of
the motor to come up with the voltage needed for the bulb to be lighted. The target
voltage of bulb is 5V.
A catch basin will be attached to the bottom of the casing, catching the water from
the casing. A 5V-12V DC water pump will be used to suck up the water from the
catch basin back to the reservoir. The power that will be used for the pump to function
is from the generated electricity of the motor.
