Life’s Treasures Wallhanging.

Please read instructions carefully before proceeding with this project. Stitchery
has been worked using 2 strands of DMC cotton unless otherwise stated.
Fabric requirements are based on fabric width of 112cm (44”). It is
recommended that fabrics be prewashed and ironed before commencement. A
¼” seam allowance has been included in all measurements.

What you will need:

30cm white fabric for stitchery and border

5 cm Pink fabric for sashing
25cm Blue fabric for border and bindings
40cm x 50cm backing and wadding
30cm x 25cm Iron on Pellon
DMC Threads- 930, 3041, 3371, 520, 640
2 x Buttons
Hanger of your choice
Matching quilting cottons
Cutting Guide:

From your chosen white fabric cut:

1 x 9” x 12” rectangle for the stitchery
7 x 2 ½”” squares cut diagonally to yield 14 triangles
2 x 3 ½” squares cut diagonally to yield 4 corner triangles

From your chosen pink fabric cut:

2 x 1 ¼” x 6 ½” strips
2 x 1 ¼” x 10 ½” strips

From your chosen blue fabric cut:

2 x 1 ½” x 10” strips
2 x 1 ½” x 10 ½” strips
9 x 2 ½” squares cut diagonally to yield 18 triangles
2 x 2 ½” strips across the width of the fabric for bindings

Stitchery Guide:

Mark your design onto the 9” x 12” rectangle of white fabric, using a water
erasable marker or Zig pen, either using a lightbox or sunny window. Fuse
pellon to the back of the stitchery with a warm iron. Work design as follows:

Border- 930 Whipped Running Stitch

Flowers- Petals 3041 Backstitch
Centres 3371 Backstitch and Satin Stitch
Buds 3041 Backstitch
Leaves- 520 Backstitch
Dove- Body 640 Backstitch
Eye and Beak 3371 Backstitch and Satin Stitch (1 strand)
Lettering- 3371 Backstitch

To Assemble Your Wallhanging:

1. Wash stitchery to remove marker and cut to 6 ½” x 9”.

2. Sew a pink 1 ¼” x 6 ½” strip to the top and bottom of the stitchery. Sew a
pink 1 ¼” x 10 ½” strip to either side of the stitchery.
3. Sew a blue 1 ½” x 10 ½” strip to either side of the stitchery and then sew
the blue 1 ½” x 10” strips to the top and bottom of the stitchery.
4. Arrange 5 blue and 4 white triangles according to the following diagram,
and sew together to form a strip:
5. Make 2 of these units and sew to either side of stitchery, white blocks
facing out.
6. Repeat for top and bottom borders, using 4 blue and 3 white triangles.
7. Sew a white corner triangle to each corner. (Please note that these
triangles may need to be trimmed down to square off each corner.)
8. Lay the backing fabric wrong side up on a flat surface and tape into
position. Lay the wadding on top, smoothing out any wrinkles and then
position the well pressed wallhanging on top, right side up. Pin or
handbaste the three layers together.
9. Quilt as desired. I have chosen to machine quilt in the ditch around the
stitchery, and around the first blue border, ¼” from the seam. I have also
quilted around each blue and white triangle, ¼” from the seam.
10. Trim excess backing and wadding level with the wallhanging. Sew binding
strips together end to end. Press in half lengthways with wrong side
together. Aligning the raw edges, stitch the binding into place, mitring the
corners as you go and trimming off the excess. Turn the folded edge of
the binding to the back and handstitch into place.
11. Attach your chosen hanger with the 2 buttons. Label, date and enjoy your
wallhanging.

ENJOY YOUR STITCHING……ENJOY YOUR FAMILY!!!
