LESSON PLAN for DEMO TEACHING

Held in CARIGARA NATIONAL VOCATIONAL SCHOOL

Grade 8
Duration: 50 mins 1 hour
I.

Objectives
a. Enumerates the characteristics or attributes of a given quadrilateral figure using
the basic attribute table.
b. Classifies the kind of quadrilateral according to its given attributes.
KBI: Cleanliness and Orderliness

II.

Subject Matter and Content

a. Topic: Classifications of Quadrilaterals
b. Reference:
Integrated Mathematics pp.204 208
c. Materials:
Manila paper, chalk, chalkboard, cartolina, bondpaper
d. Concept:
Definitions: Quadrilateral A polygon bound by 4 sides and has 4 angles
Polygon A closed plain figure bounded by lines
Parallel lines a pair of lines that does not intersect
Adjacent lines a pair of lines next to each other
Indicators: Tickmarks indicates congruency
Angle marks/arcs indicates the vertex of an existing angle
Angle mark/square indicates the angle is 90 degrees

III.

Process
a. Activities
a.1
Pre lecture/ daily routine
* Prayer
* Pick up pieces of paper near your chair and arrange the seats in properly.
* Greeting
a.2

Review (oral recitation)

* What is a polygon?
* What is an angle?

*What is a triangle?

a.3

Drill (board work)

- Intended to introduce or recall on how to determine indicators on given
plain figures.
* Guide the students on identifying and interpreting relevant indicators
found on the following figures.

Identifying: parallel lines

sides
opposite sides and angles
measurement indicators

Interpreting: tick marks

angle marks
congruency

a.4

Motivation
show them a cube, then ask them the following questions:
1. Is a cube a polygon?
2. If you unfold the surface are of the cube how many plane
figures do you get?
The Cube is a 3 dimensional figure with the total surface
area of 6 squares
b. Analysis
(Pre questioning)
- How do we confirm that a figure is a quadrilateral?
- How do we enumerate it relevant indicators and properties?
- What are the kinds of quadrilaterals?
(Post the visual aids)
Introduce the QUADRILATERAL CONCEPT MAP without examples

* Introduce the basic attribute table which will help them analyze the
upcoming figures faster
Attribute
1. no. of pairs of parallel lines
2. no. of equal sides
3. no. of right angles
4. no. of opposite sides equal
5. no. of opposite angles

Enumerate the parts

( Group work) Divide the class into 4 groups and give them 2 figures
corresponding to all kinds of quadrilaterals and let them enumerate the parts using the
attribute table then let them give the classification of the given figures.

The following figures are:

I

II

III

IV

(After they come up with their answers perform an oral recitation by calling a
volunteer form each group.)
- Do some confirmations and follow up questions to reinforce learning.
* Are rhombus parallelograms?
* Is a kite a trapezoid?
c. Abstraction/Comparison
- Continuing the groupings let them compare the characteristics of a square
and a rectangle.
- How do the 2 figures differ and how are they the same?
* Do the reverse abstraction by giving them figures with a classification
and let them answer the values.
d. Application
(Dissolve their groupings and give them a seatwork)
- Enumerate the attributes and classify the following figures.

IV. Evaluation (1/4 sheet of paper)

Enumerate the attributes then classify the kind of quadrilateral.
1.
2.

Classify the quadrilateral acc. To its attributes given

3. one pair of congruent opposite sides
4. 4 right angles, unequal adjacent sides
5. 2 pairs of equal adjacent sides
V. Assignment/Agreement
- Bring a picture or a cutout of things in real life that contain quadrilateral
shapes
