Echo Building, Sunderland This 15-storey building contains three storeys of car parking, retail at ground floor level and 11 storeys of residential accommodation, made up of 179 apartments. It was designed as a braced steel frame with multi-deck composite floors, a curved roof bolted together from fabricated steel sheets, a 5m wide galvanised steel balcony around the retail level to provide a promenade, and 2m wide balconies around all river facing apartments. Billington included all steelwork and metaldecking for the project in their build programme. Built on the site of the old
Post Office headquarters, the West Central development consists of a number of buildings providing residential, retail and leisure space to the west of Leeds City Centre. Billington supplied over 2000 tonnes of complex beam and column structural steelwork, and were also responsible for the metal decking, precast concrete and stairs.

Steel frames were
selected ahead of timber and concrete, enabling the design to include 6m cantilevers. The structure also included storey height Vierendeel girders with the rest of the frame comprising a beam and column structure. This two-phase residential
and retail development at the centre of Bishops Stortford lies adjacent to the shopping and leisure centre of the same name. Billington manufactured, supplied and erected steelwork for both phases of the building programme, which provides over 300 apartments. In addition, Billington was responsible for the metal decking and precast concrete packages.
