CHARISMATIC LEADERSHIP

Charismatic leadership is about passionate . It can driven individuals who are able to
paint a compelling vision of the future , able to generate high level of excitement among
followers and build strong emotional attachment with them .

AUTHORITY SYSTEM

There are three types of authority systems according to Weber which is traditional
authority system , legal rational authority system and charismatic authority system . The
traditional authority system is the traditions and unwritten laws of society dictate who has
authority and how this authority can be used . For example , the tradition in the Chinese dynasty
for first born son . Meanwhile,the legal rational authority system is govern by laws . For example
, the elected government officials are legally empowered to take certain actions because of their
positions . Beside that , the charismatic authority system is the authority that comes from
societys belief in leaders who are thought to possess superhuman qualities to power divine
origins . For example , Mahatma Gandhi who is able to mobilize Muslims and Hindus of India to
use non-violence to end British rule .

VISION

Vision is based on future-oriented . It is see beyond current realities . The vision is build
based on followers values not their own values . The leader should demonstrate how to
implement the vision . It is because the leader have clear picture and passionate about the future .

RHETORICAL SKILL

The rhetorical skill is the most important tools . It is because it contain of speeches and
the way speech are delivered . Good rhetorical skill will able to heighten followers emotional
levels and inspire them to embrace the vision . It will stir the dissatisfaction with the present
while building a picture of a new future . The rhetorical skill techniques includes metaphor ,
analogies , stories , repetition , rhythm , balance and alliteration-stress in their point . For

example , Adolph Hitler mastered his delivery techniques so well that his speech can have a
hypnotizing power even to the people who do not understand German language . Another
example is I have a dream which is Martin Luther King most moving speech .

IMAGE AND TRUST BUILDING

Image and trust building is through unshakable self confidence , strength of moral
conviction , personal example , sacrifice and unconventional tactics or behaviour . The
charismatic leaders are perceived to have unusual insight and ability. They are also typically are
more experience and knowledgeable than their followers and act in a manner consistent with
their vision and values .

PERSONALIZED LEADERSHIP

Personalized leadership is about the the leader who have emotionalized relationships with
followers . It is not necessary they are friendly . The followers become relatively dependent on
the leaders personal approval for their own self-worth . It emotionally have expressive eyecontact , movement , gestures , tone of voice , facial expressions and magnetic personality .

FOLLOWER CHARACTERISTIC

The follower reactions to the leader are more important than the leaders personal
characteristic . The charisma is in the eyes and heart of the beholder-emotional reaction and
belief in leaders . The follower characteristics are identification with the leader and the vision ,
heightened emotional levels , willing subordination to the leader and feelings of empowerment .

METHOD OF LEADERSHIP

There are three methods of leadership which are direct leadership , less direct leadership
and indirect leadership . Direct leadership is based on on commands . The decision is about

resources and promotions . It is also about personal guidance of individuals and terms . The less
direct leadership is communicating an inspiring vision and inspiring values . It method is by
listening and caring to the followers . It is lead by using personal example . The indirect
leadership is about creating a condition of freedom . The subordinate will say we did it
ourselves . It also can create rooms for other leaders within the organization .
