BARANGAY BALAOANG

Balaoang is the official name of the Barangay. It is bounded on the

western part of Paniqui near Barangay Rang-ayan, San Carlos, Aduas
,Barang,and Sinigpit.
Due to the unavailability of original records about the history of the
barangay, important information were gathered through interviews from old
folks of ages 75 years old and above who grew up on this barangay.
According to them, the first settlers were a family which originally lives in a
town called Balawan located in the Province of La Union. During World
War II, they were forced to abandon their land and look for a place to settle
in. They found a new place to live in and started to build their houses near
the river banks. They called the place Kabalawangan, which was adapted
to their previous town. Many people came and settled in this place. Later on,
it became a Barangay and was called Balawang or Balaoang.
Balaoang reflects great things that pertain to the history of this
enchanting place. It has superb fragrance and beauty which our town is
proud of.

Topography

Balaoang is located at the western part of Paniqui. It is positioned

beside Barangay Rang-ayan, Aduas, Sinigpit,Barang, and San Carlos. It is
547.5997 hectares. It will only take less than 15 minutes from Balaoang
going to the town proper. Most of the roads are concrete. Barangay Balaoang
is one of the barangays in Paniqui wherein most of the residents are involved
in farming due to the large agricultural spot. Because the soil is sandy loam
and fertile, Balaoang was engaged

History of Barangay Balaoang

As early of 1800s the concerned of the
people is to seek a place to live, a place of
greener pastures.
A group of Ilocanos ancestors selling
garlic settled on the western part which is
seven kilometers away from the town proper
of Paniqui. These dwellers started planting garlic and other root crops and
sold them in the nearby barangay. Selling garlic became the chief source of
their living.
This dwelling area became Balaoang
originating from two Ilocano words: Balay,
which means house; and Bawang which
means Garlic.
Its fertile soil is good for a year round
planting of bawang, corn, palay, camote and other root crops which give a
permanent livelihood to the people.

At

present,

Balaoang

is

of

the

progressive barangays of Paniqui. The street

are

cemented

and

with

electric

lights.

Balaoang has its own post Office, Public

Market, Covered Court, Rural Health Center.
Birthing Home, Day Care Center and Office of
the Senior Citizens Affairs.

Barangay Balaoang is located along

Camiling-Paniqui Road. It is residential, semicommercial, industrial and mineral land area.
It is also geographically and administratively
subdivided into 6 puroks, namely;
Purok I

Centro

Purok II - Barangobong
Purok III - Limok
Purok IV - Malagayuma

Purok V - Proper East

Purok VI Proper West
Majority or 85 % of the people of the
barangay are Catholic while others or 15 %
belongs

to

different

religious

sectors.

Mostly, people of Balaoang are Ilocanos

and

the

rest

are

Pangasinense,

Capampangan and Tagalog.
