1. Consider the bar in Fig.1 Calculate the nodal displacements, element stresses,

and support reactions.Take A1 = 300 mm , A2 = 500 mm , E= 2x10 N/mm .

2. For a tapered plate of uniform thickness t =10 mm as shown in Fig.2. Find the
displacements at the nodes by forming into two element model. The bar has

mass density = 7800 kg/ m , youngs modulus, E= 2 x 10 MN/m . In


addition to self-weight, the plate is subjected to a point load p= 10 kN at its
centre. Also determine the reaction force at the support.

6. For the linearly varying distributed load on the axisymmetric conical surface
shown in Fig.6, prove that the equivalent point load vector T is given by

a=2 1(3 r 1 +r 2)/12 , b 2 1(r 1 +r 2 )/12 , c 2 1(r 1 +3 r 2) /12 .
