Whimsical Changing of Sublords: A Rejoinder Article

Dr. Andrew Dutta

No man is ever old enough to know better
--Holbrook Jackson

Backdrop
In the April 2008 issue of KP EZine my article titled Whimsical Changing Of The Sublords: A Gross
Malpractice Of Some KP Practitioners received mixed reactions. Though many readers personally gave me
kudos, some sections of the KP fraternity have objected to me also for the manner in which I have written
the article.
I would like to humbly tell all the readers that the main purpose of the article was educative in
nature. The choice of the example and the analysis was done to bring out some of the essence of our day to
day KP practice without the intention to hurt anyone individual or any particular group of practitioners. We
are all free to follow our own methodologies in predictions long as it yields consistent results. But to what
extent our practices are scientific needs to be apprised. It was mainly for this purpose that the article was
written. However, as long as it is the usage of words that hurt people, one would owe an apology for
unintentionally hurting anyones feeling. But as far as true KP principles are concerned, I see no reason
why anyone needs to compromise with the propagation of truth.
I received few emails after my previous article wherein it was stated that K.S.K. did suggest
changing of the sublords. In this article, I would like to draw attention to the readers to what K.S.K himself
said in one of his articles about changing cuspal sublords and how it has been misunderstood by many of us.
I will also share with the readers some secrets that my Guru jis told me regarding this issue.
It is said that the proof of the pudding lies in eating. So, it is upto the readers to understand the real
import of the meanings that were published in the last issue of KP EZine and what sense does K.S.Ks
words actually mean to us that I provide in this article.

What did K. S. Krishnamurti really say?

In Astrology & Athrishta monthly magazine of 1970 January issue (Vol. 8 No. 1) in the article titled
Astrology and Disease authored by K.S.K on page 27 second column second paragraph we find the
following words, which unfortunately have been misunderstood by many of us.

Note the sublord of the sixth cusp. This needs correct moment of birth. If it is not available,
then if you want to know the sub of the sixth, you take ruling planets at the moment when you
have the urge to put the query. Mysteriously God will help you by eliminating the previous
and the next sub to the one which you have to select.
I urge the readers to please MAKE CAREFUL NOTE OF THE WORDS. It is clearly said by K.S.K
in the third sentence that If it is not available, then if you want to know the sub of the sixth, you take ruling
planets at the moment when you have the urge to put the query. What is not available?? K.S.K is
referring to the absence of what??
K.S.K is referring to birth time! Logically therefore, we can understand that only in such situations
where the querist himself raises doubt about the correctness of his own birth time, only then should we
resort to the use of the divine RPs in order to resolve or doubts. Is K.S.K ever suggesting that in spite of
the native suggesting correctness of his birth time we can act like Gods and choose a sub that suits our
purpose?? The answer is definitely NO. I think that many of us have not understood the deeper
implications of the meaning of what K.S.K wanted to suggest. We all know what a brilliant mathematician
K.S.K himself was. It is sheer folly and naivet to think that K.S.K did not think about the mistake that I
spoke about in the last issue of EZine, namely the alteration of other cuspal sublords.
For those readers who do not have access to the aforementioned old magazine, I would like to urge
them to read page 118, 3rd paragraph of K.S.Ks Third reader titled Predictive Stellar Astrology, 7th
Edition, 1995 published by Krishman & Co., Madras, India. Actually, it is a reprint of the same article of
Astrology & Athristha, January 1970 issue. However, for those who believe in the adage, seeing is
believing, I am reproducing the same paragraph here. I also provided the scanned page of this same para at
the end of this article. It is mentioned in page 118 of Third Reader that:
Note the sub-lord of the 6th cusp. This needs correct moment of birth. If it is not available,
then if you want to know the sub of the sixth, you take the ruling planets at the moment when
you have the urge to put the query. Mysteriously God will help you by eliminating the
previous and the next sub to the one which you have to select.
Then what should we do??
Here I will share the knowledge that I was imparted by my Guru jis. Readers need to apply it in their
practice to know the authenticity of my statement. Readers may please mark K.S.Ks words once again. He
said in those paragraphs that Mysteriously God will help you by eliminating the previous and the next sub to
the one which you have to select.

The application of this selection is based on a few preconditions and cannot be done arbitrarily as
pointed out in my article of April 2008 issue of KP EZine. The preconditions are:
1. The querist expresses doubt about his own birth time.
2. The birth time discrepancy is of such a magnitude which has effects only at the sub level and
not at the level of stars or signs.
3. All KP principles have been exhausted in the understanding of the issue at hand.
Let me now briefly explain the importance of the above 3 points wherein we need to take the help of
RPs to corroborate the cuspal sub lords.
Firstly, any astrological endeavor is based on faith. You as an astrologer practice astrology because
you not only have faith in the science but also because you believe that your God will illuminate you with
the right foresight. Similarly, the querist has faith on you and your ability. That is why he has come to
consult you. He also trusts his own birth time, which he received from his parents/guardians. When
everything is in a proper equilibrium you simply proceed. You dont start the analysis by becoming a
doubting Thomas. You dont doubt anything when everything is okay. If you do, then it spirals in to a
negative energy and invariably you fail in offering correct prediction. This is the root cause of many failed
prediction and this is one of my family secrets that has given us immense success. Readers may please
note what K.S.K said If it is not available, . MANY OF US HAVE MISSED THIS BIG IF.
A similar view was expressed by Sri K. Baskaran, a famous and eminent astrologer from Madurai
in his very popular book Secrets of R.P. & The Birth Time (1999) in page 10 point number 2 that:
Unless the client raises specific doubts in his birth-time, we need not attempt unnecessarily to
correct the birth-time at all. However, it is better to check his birth-horoscope by taking the
RPsLike this we should practice the art of relating all the twelve bhavas with the present
position of the Moon.
I am providing the scanned page of this above quote for the benefit of the readers at the end of this
article.
Secondly, we should be using RPs to corroborate the particular cuspal sub lord of interest only if the
querist mentions birth time range which is small enough to warrant the involvement of the previous and the
next sub only. This method is not applicable if the alteration in the sub moves up or down by a couple of
slots. Even in such cases where the birth time range is big we will have to undertake birth time
rectification. Not arbitrary changing of the sublord according to our whims.
Finally, before we embark upon a change of a particular cuspal sublord, we need to exhaust all
possible KP principles. Readers who practice regularly and professionally are well aware that in real life,
problems in the horoscope come in different forms and dimensions. And so many times we have the
3

propensity to overlook some vital link and hastily jump to conclusions ending up in wrong predictions. I was
taught by my Guru jis that unless all possible rules and dictum are exhausted we cannot go for any
alterations of the birth chart. In my previous article I have clearly shown that with the unchanged
sublord how beautifully KP principles are getting applied and results inferred.
Ending this rejoinder
Before I end this rejoinder, I would also like to put forward to the readers what Sri K. Baskaran the
author of Secrets of R.P. & The Birth Time and a very eminent astrologer from Madurai said in page 15,
point 11 of his very popular book published in 1999.
In my little experience, I have come across young KP astrologers, who do not hesitate to change
SUBs of certain cuspal points. Without detailed study, these young KP astrologers, with a subjective
outlook, never afraid to change their horoscopes frequently by changing SUBs of certain bhavas
according to their whims and fancies. This is not advisable. It is irrational and undoing of the
scientific approach of KP. Only because our predictions fail often, it is not reasonable to jump to the
conclusion that the birth time is wrong.
The scanned page of the above quote is appended for greater transparency of truth.
I have written this rejoinder because I dont want anyone to misunderstand my sincere devotion to
astrology and KP. I pray to my Lord Uchchista Ganapati to uphold the truth and give strength to all those
who are on the side of truth.
I would like to end this rejoinder with a quotation of K.S.K published in Astrology and Athrishta
1969 May issue (Vol 7 No. 5) in the article titled How to judge a nativity on page 28. Do not be in the
company of bluffers. Do not feel jealous of others. Do not talk ill of others. When you are true, remember
truth alone will prevail.
