CONCEPT
OBJECTIVE
As the present only ICE driven four wheeler vehicle are on roads with utilizing nonrenewable gaseous or oil sources for propulsion, in upcoming years there may be scarcity in
petroleum fuels observed.
On the other hand, only electric motor driven electric vehicles lacks more speed
achievements, initial torque, battery related issues and of higher cost purchasing.
By deriving Hybrid Technology, combing both ICE and electric motor for deriving the
whole propulsion of the vehicle will save much fuel also attaining high speeds.
The principal objective of this invention is to save fuel (gaseous/ oil based) in for four
wheeler vehicle by attaining
Higher mileage per liter fuel
Higher speed
Higher torque
Hither efficiency and reliability
Good maintenance
In the four wheeler vehicle, the front wheels will be controlled or propelled by ICE,
whereas the rear wheels will be in-wheel electric motors or electric motors controlled
wheels. The source for ICE propulsion is any available gaseous / liquid fuels. The source
for electric motor propulsion is interconnected battery packs acting as voltage or current
source which are charged using solar energy.
4.2
:-
As of the day by day growing population and usage of automobiles, a country like India
should always have a future vision regarding the conservation of natural resources. As
everyone are most dependent on the available natural resources and least bothered
regarding its alternative in future, more and more research has to be carried finding the
alternative. One such alternative can be an HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle). Bringing the
HEV into roads (commercialization) has become an issue as of lack of research on it. This
research is based on a study and designing an HEV more suitable for Indian road
conditions. The parameters involve selection of ICE, selection of Electric Motor,
configuration of HEV, battery selection and modes of operation.
This invention is regarding design and development of hybrid electric internal combustion
engine (ICE) four wheeler vehicle, where the individual propulsions obtained are summed
synchronously for deriving the torque or speed required for whole propulsion of the
vehicle. As both the electric motor and ICE are actively deriving the propulsions, the
vehicle can attain more speeds; with higher mileage per liter fuel with respect to ICE can
be obtained. The combined efforts of electric motor and ICE are considered or summed
for whole propulsion of the vehicle. The ICE will propel with available gaseous / liquid fuels
available. Electric motor will propel with batteries interconnected acting as voltage or
current source charged through solar energy. For Indian road gradients a suitable Hybrid
vehicle has to be developed.
As the present ICE four wheeler vehicles are found to be consuming more fuel, this
method would be suggested. The applications involve
More reliable hybrid four wheeler vehicle.
More efficient torque / speed management.
Less fuel utilization by ICE.
Common-man needs can be met.
Renewable techniques in battery charging can be employed.
Electrical power utilization with respect to generation grid cam be saved as the
batteries are charged in vehicle during the move.
Going green with the solar charging mechanism.
4.3
Urbanization has caused many affects on public life. Presently, the daily activities are
mainly dependent on vehicles. So the density of vehicles in city areas is increasing day by
day. Mainly, many of these vehicles are all dependent on non-renewable energy sources like
petrol and diesel. These sources are extinguishing day by day and may not last long. People
are also taking war in certain countries because of oil crisis with political instability. With
all these factors of oil, we are seeing the prices of oil going high day by day making the
common mans life unbearable.
These types of vehicles are also more trustable, reduces noise and air pollution. By using
this type of vehicle an average of 30%- 40% of petrol can be saved. The time of charging
the batteries are also reduced. The drawbacks of only ICE driven and only EM driven
vehicles can be overcome by using this type of vehicle.
If one vehicle can save about 30% of petrol fuel, then an average of about 40% of
national fuel can be conserved by using this type of vehicle. Also electric bill can also be
saved, as the batteries last long per charge. An idea of charging the batteries through
ICE can also be implemented here.
The government has to take steps in commercializing these types of vehicles framing the
schemes for common mans availability. As everything is dependent on fuel resource in this
age, if conservation of these are promised then our country can compete globally.

DELIVERABLES
The outcome of this proposed project would be the hybrid ICE-electric four wheeler
vehicle for which the overall propulsion will be the sum of ICE and electric motor
propulsions. The source for ICE will be gaseous / petrol fuel whereas for the electric
motors are powered from DC source battery arrays. The DC batteries are charged
through solar charging scheme. The initial pick-up of the vehicle (from the rest) will be
achieved through internal combustion engine and as the vehicle attains motion, the electric
motors are powered for propelling the vehicle with motor speed controllers moderating
the accelerator with respect to ICE. According to motor characteristics, as the motor will
be already in motion it consumes less amount of power from the batteries with less fuel
consumption with respect to ICE. By developing this type of vehicle, the disadvantages
encountered in electric motor driven vehicles (less speed and more battery charging time)
and also in ICE driven vehicles (more fuel consumption) can be overcome. An increase of
25%-40% increase in mileage compared to only ICE driven vehicles For a liter of
petrol / diesel fuel would be seen in type of hybrid vehicles. The sketch of the
proposed project is as shown below
