Glove (make two)


Using 3.5mm needles and Red,
cast on 30sts.
Work four rows in garter stitch.
Change to Jeans, and begin
working in st st and stripe pattern
as follows:
Two rows in Jeans.
Four rows in Natural.
Work even to 11cm or 41/2in,
ending on a purl row.

Arms
Cast on 8sts at beg of next two
rows. 46sts.
Cont working in the stripe patt
until the glove measures 15cm or

Merino DK

6in, ending on a purl row.

Neck
Cast off 8sts at beg of next two
rows. 30sts.
Cast off 4sts at beg of next four
rows. 14sts.
Work in patt on these sts for 14
rows.
Cast off.
Darn in loose yarn ends and sew
shoulder seams of glove.

Cuffs
With the RS facing, and using
3.5mm needles and Red, pick up
and knit 12sts along the sleeve
edge.
Work three rows in garter stitch.
Cast off.

Sew the side and neck seam,


closing the top opening (where
the fingers control the head).
Sew the head onto
the body very securely
so it stays on well as
you play with the
finished puppet

Head (make two)


Using Natural, cast on 8sts.
Using st st, inc 1st at each end
of every row until 30sts.
Work even until the head is 6cm
or 21/4in, ending on a knit row.

Change to Red.
Next row (WS): Knit.
Starting with a K row and
working in st st, dec 1st at each
end of every row until 8sts rem.
Cast off. Darn in loose yarn
ends. With RS facing, sew the
head pieces together, leaving
a 5cm or 2in opening at the
bottom of head for stuffing and

When you knit the pirate
puppets glove body, use
a basic stripe pattern
repeat of four rows in
Natural and two rows
in Jeans. Remember to
keep this stripe pattern
correct as you work
through the shaping for
the arms and the neck.

Use yarn for the


embroidery that has
the same weight as the
yarn in the rest of
the project, for an
even result

attaching to the glove. Turn RS out,


and stuff loosely.
Using the photo as a guide,
embroider the eyes and mouth.
Use Swiss darning for the
eyepatch, following the chart
below. Work a row of backstitches
to represent the eyepatch band.

Use the photograph as a guide.


Snip a length of red ribbon, and
knot it. Sew it firmly to the side of
the pirates head.
Now, slide the neck of the
glove inside the head at the base.
Secure the head to the glove with
small, firm stitches. n
