2010 Spring Marine Biology Trip to Seward and Homer

Tuesday, May 4- Saturday, May 8

Our marine biology trip will be an exciting opportunity for the entire school to learn more about the
scientific and social issues affecting our immediate environment.

The total cost for the trip is $150 per person. We ask that you pay this amount in advance so that we
can pre-register for festival events and purchase groceries. Students should bring additional spending
money for drinks and miscellaneous purchases.

Please return the attached permission form, waiver and the $150 registration fee by Friday, April
30. This trip is an integral part of the school year and is thus mandatory. Students who are unable to
attend must provide a letter of explanation from their parents accounting for their absence. Please
contact the office if the cost of the trip poses any problem.

While in Seward, we have arranged an optional 4 hr. Kenai Fjord Wildlife Tour for $80 per person. A
lunch will be served on board. Last year our students spotted the returning whales. Though this tour is
optional, we strongly encourage those who have not gone on this trip in Resurrection Bay to do so! This
is a great opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in the wonders and beauty of Resurrection
Bay.

Activities this year may include:

Discussion and seminars on ocean renewable energy potential and marine bio-diversity
Tide pool studies at Lowe Point and Bishop’s Beach
Video presentations on migrating birds, the unique estuary system in Homer, and marine biology
Field study, workshops, and other events throughout the Shorebird Festival in Homer
