Effect of the CollegeEntranceExaminationover the

Life and Generation of Ying Dou

Introduction
The Generational theory describes that the period or era in which an individual was born
affects & influences the progress of how they view and perceive the world. Our moral
and value systems are formed during the first ten years of our lives which affects our
coming generations. There are many people and factors which influence our value
system, including our parents and families we belong, our society, a group of friends,
significant happenings and events of our lives and the overall period in which we are
born (Bengtson & Achenbaum, 1993).

Young generations seek values from communities and parents, and frequently share the
same principles and ideals throughout their life span. When people start getting aware of
their surroundings and society they start perceiving the world differently on the basis of
their value system (Fish, n.d.). An individual can have different meanings of life on the
basis of his personal experiences which can be totally variable from the other people and
generations (Li, 2001).

This paper explains how a life event changed the whole life of Ms. Ying Dou, a resident
of china living in the Beijingandisinher40s.Entrancetestofcollegechangedher

needed to change her situation. Education changes the destiny of whole generations. It
enhances the lifestyle of the generations and generations to come and have many direct
and indirect effects.

Effect of the College Entrance Examination over the Life and Generation of Ying Dou
Ying duo is now a practitioner in the field of education and promotes and supports
educational ideas. She gives lectures about these ideas to the students and professionals.

As the whole county was in a poor state and duos family was living a life below the
poverty line. Education was her only way to break through this vicious circle and passing
the entrance test was the first ladder of her path towards the success. The score on the test
was going to set the complete course of her life. This score was not going to determine
whether she will attend the college or not but it was also the determinant of her career
and future prospects.

This test was the only way of permitting students like her who are from inferior and
poorer circumstances and backgrounds or from the remote rural areas to contest for a
place in the college. This was the major and life changing step in Dous life and the
meaning of failure was no education and degree, minor job possibility and prospects and
surely a life of deep regret.

Ying Dou narrates how finally she cleared the test and got admission in the college where
various happenings affected her life greatly in a good manner. She told that they treasured
their college years, and they studied and work harder and passionately in order to achieve
a better place in life. She said that one thing that she liked about her college was that
learners of different subjects and majors often have joint discussions. Most of the
students in her class had Economics as the major subject, which was a scandalous and
controversial field at those times, since China was facing the economic reform. They
discussed politics and economics often which open do mind towards the greater horizons.
She explained that they received grants for research and travel which helped her greatly
to understand what life is all about and to have a better understanding of life.

Admission in the college changed her life completely and she transferred the same
passion for learning to her next generation. This step in life helped a lot to work for the
betterment of herself and her family and motivated her to work for the betterment of her
community too. She was a kind of example for the generation around her and proved that
hard work and education can help them to change their lives. She explained her
generation was always the one who made great efforts to survive during the times of
poverty and misery but they never left hold of their value systems. Her changed life style
was the result of her passing the entrance test which brought a great change not only in
her life, but will be a permanent change in her coming generations also. We all have
events and happenings in our lives which change us forever and also have greater impact
on the lives of people living around us and indirectly our community too. These events
sometimes make us or break us. They change our value system totally. They provide us a

chance to get excellence or to thrive and flourish in the life. The entrance test for the
admission in the college was the event for the Ying Dou which changed the destiny of her
and her future generation.
Conclusion
We all have a great understanding that poverty cycle can be broken with the help of
education. So we all have our share in the individual or community level for the
advancement of Education. We must motivate our children at the earliest stage to have a
strong value system and to know the value of education in their lives. The provision of
education to our young ones helps them a lot in shaping their lifestyle and lifestyles of
generations to come.

This is a great time and moment to understand and realize the role of education in helping
people from escaping poverty. Our generation must be provided to complete studies so
they can unlock the greater good and the benefits of education. It will help them in the
eradication of poverty for the betterment of themselves and for the community and
society. Education will not only help them in the extinction of poverty, it will help them
to enhance and improve their value system. It will provide them with the greater
understanding of life and will firm their belief system.

We all are aware that if we youngsters future prospect will remain doubtful and
unpromising, the same will be the future of our nation.
