TCH drop optimization tips

Let's discuss possible solutions to reduce TCH drop in GSM networks.

Steps:1.Find out at which level you are getting more drops.Radio,Abis,Transcoder,Abis,RF old etc.
2.Check your BCCH and TCH plan if you find it need to be tune then run AFP (Automatic Freq
plan) and implement new Freq plan.
3.Check neighbour count for each cell. Add or remove adjacencies where required.
4.Check some important BTS parameters like RLT(recommended-24),ARLT and
AHRLT(recommended-36) etc.
5.Also check AMR full and half rate codecs and its thresolds used in each cell.
6.Check for any inconsistencies in parameters like diversityUsed (RDIV),DTX used (DTX),MS
min and max transmit power(PMIN & PMAX),BTS min and max transmit power(PMIN &
PMAX),rxLevAccessMin (RXP), Antenna Hopping(AHOP), etc.

8.Improve handover success ratio-HOSR. Click below link to see how to improve HOSR.

9.Reduce half rate traffic wherever possible.Tune FRL ( Lower limit for half rate trigger) FRU
(upper limit to full rate trigger) for Non-AMR calls and
AFRL ( Lower limit for half rate trigger) AFRU (upper limit to full rate trigger) for Non-AMR
calls considering utilization.
Also check this thresold value at BSC level also.
10.Remove all hardware related BTS alarms like Channel failure rate,TRX faulty etc. and also
rectify path loss issues.
11.Reduce overshooting by giving tilt to antenna of cells which are taking calls from very long
distance.

How to improve DL RX Quality?

DL rx quality is the one Important KPI which is generally difficult to achieve specially in narrow
band spectrum.
Some solutions are:

Improve BCCH and TCH plan

Count interference % on both BCCH and TCH so as to know any freq

addition/deletion need to do in BCCH or TCH Plan

Diversity,Antenna Hopping also improve DL Rx Qual

DL DTX also help to improve DL Qual

Neighbour plan must be checked for any discripancies or addition/deletion

required

You can do following things to improve HOSR.
1.HOSR is directly related to DL qual so improve network DL qual.
please refer to How to improve DL RX Quality?
2. You can also increase timer T3103 in BSC.Make sure it should be less than T10
atlease by 2 sec.
3. Also check if there are lot of Intracell HO failures.Then check for Hardware issues
or inracell HO theresolds.
4. Try to change PBGT,Qual and Level Margin and see any effect.
5. Check if MSC controlled HO's are getting failed.
6. Remove Co-BCCH,BSIC combination in neighbour.
7. Remove hardware alarms

Below mentioned timers will help you to improve HOSR.

T7 Timer for sending outgoing external inter-cell handover requests and handover
commands
T8 Timer for running outgoing external inter-cell handover commands and handover
completion or clearance
T3103 From the time when an intra-cell or inter-cell handover command is executed
to the time of an intra-cell or inter-cell handover completion
T3105 During an asynchronous handover, from the time when the BTS sends the
MS a physical message to the time when the BTS receives the set asynchronous
balanced mode (SABM) from the MS
T3124 During an asynchronous handover, from the time when the MS sends the
network a handover access Burst message to the time when the MS receives a
physical message from the BTS
