Digital Sound Controller

Processes incoming signal and

sends the necessary amplified cancelling signal to the loudspeakers.

Input Microphone
Detects fan noise, converts it to an
electrical signal and transmits it to the
controller.

n The QUIETEQ silencer is available in three different

versions:
- Comfort
- High-Efficiency
- Indoor Air Quality (IAQ).
n QUIETEQ is also available as a duct kit, suitable for use
with the Carrier Individual Comfort Module ICM. Here it
ensures outstanding occupant comfort with optimum
silence. With its individual powerful communicating
control, good filtration level, fresh air intake and ideal
component accessibility this system fits high-spec office
applications, as well as hospital wards and retirement
villages.
n Energy cost savings - the QUIETEQ silencer can pay back
installation cost in less than two years, because it causes no
pressure drop. Conventional silencing, on the other hand,
through increased energy bills, continuously adds to its
original cost every year it is in place.
The table below illustrates the advantages of Carrier's
39NP QUIETEQ active/passive silencer.

Designing for a pleasant acoustical environment means

giving consideration to both the level of sound in a room and
the quality of the sound. A pleasant quality results when the
sound spectrum is balanced. Imbalance results in an
obtrusive, annoying quality.
The Carrier 39NP QUIETEQ active/passive silencer ensures
a quiet and balanced installation with a neutral sound
spectrum. It has the unique ability to change the shape of the
noise spectrum according to specific criteria. The active
system automatically focuses on the loudest noise, thus
achieving superior attenuation of the low frequencies.
Features
n Adaptation to system change - the QUIETEQ active/passive

silencer is a standard option of the Carrier air handling unit

product ranges 39CC/CH, 39FD/FX and 39FB. It operates
without supervision. This includes compensating for changes
in duct temperature, humidity, airflow and fan speed.
n A wide-open cross section - unlike conventional baffles, the
QUIETEQ silencer does not disturb airflow to cause
regenerated noise. Nor does it put up resistance to the system's
performance. All active components are mounted directly in
contact with the air stream inside of the air handling unit
module.
n Flexibility in system design - what is more demanding of
change and adjustment than the air handling system in the
final stages of building design? The QUIETEQ silencer is
impressive technology realistically applied. That means we
work with you to create a QUIETEQ system which supports
the real world design you need to implement.

n Indoor air quality was a major consideration in the design

of the QUIETEQ silencer, and makes a significant

contribution to the building environment quality.
n The IAQ version is designed to sufficiently combat
microbial growth without affecting the sound reduction
performance. This is ensured by a special internal lining.
This version is ideal for applications with high IAQ
requirements, as well as hospitals and clean rooms.
n Easy and efficient retrofit solutions - whenever the factorymounted option does not fit the installation requirements
because of the building characteristics (footprint, height),
the QUIETEQ components can be duct mounted. In this
case the input and error microphones as well as the
loudspeakers are mounted on the duct, typically 3 m from
the original noise source. The digital noise controller is
placed in an accessible spot, where it is easily monitored by
the client's maintenance staff or by Carrier via computer
modem.
n Carrier will work with you to specify appropriate
application of the QUIETEQ active/passive silencer,
providing detailed information, including laboratory application and site testing, for you and your client.
