We've reported about Time Life's 22-DVD gift set The Carol Burnett Show-The Ultimate Collection.

It's now officially

scheduled to ship Aug. 13, delayed a bit, but it won't be much longer now! The info we've had before about the
contents has mostly focused on extras, but Time Life's also said it contains 50 of the best episodes, hand-picked by
Carol. DVDs of the show haven't been stores before, but it's been on disc ~10 years ago from Columbia House club,
and via Guthy-Renke subscriptions. Now that Time Life's bringing it to stores, fans who bought DVDs before wonder
how much is new-to-DVD, and how many episodes are "reruns."
We're grateful to Time Life for sending a disc-by-disc list of all you'll find on the 22-DVD Carol Burnett Show-The
Ultimate Collection. That's below, and meticulous fans will soon see that there are 9 episodes completely new-toDVD. Why so many that have been on DVD before? Well, when Carol and Time Life picked the 50 episodes to put on
this set, they included the best...regardless of whether or not they've been on DVD before. Also note that most Carol
Burnett Show fans don't own the old DVDs, so everything here is new to them. 10 years ago, DVD players weren't in
as many homes as they are now.
Even if you do happen to own the old DVDs, there's MUCH more new here than 9 episodes. You'll get 6 rare
sketches from the first 5 seasons, including visits by Jerry Lewis, Lucille Ball, Bing Crosby & Bob Hope! One of those
sketches is fan-favorite "The Dentist" (with Tim Conway & Harvey Korman). And you'll get 3 never-on-DVD episodes
of Carol on The Garry Moore Show, including her first-ever "Tarzan" yell on TV. You'll also get a wonderful pack-in
memory book, "One More Time," with 20 pages of photos, classic moments, and stories by guest stars and modernday stars Carol's inspired.
There's tons of bonus material: 11 of the DVDs in this 22-disc set have some sort of extras on them! The last 4 DVDs
in this pack are nothing BUT extras. The biggest fans of The Carol Burnett Show will certainly want to get their hands
on it, to have access to all the wonderful stuff Time Life's worked hands-on with Carol (and others) to get. In fact,
there's one item omitted from the below list of contents (but it's mentioned in other posts): a "virtual tour" of a Season
10 Guest Book. At the end of each episode Carol asked her visitors to sign a guest book; one of these was located at
the UCLA Library, and it's been digitized into a featurette (~6 minutes) showing the celeb signature and a clip of the
guest on the show.
If you've followed our DVD news, you know that this 22-disc "exclusively-online" set isn't the only item coming to
market. At retail stores there will be a 6-disc set, a 2-disc release, and a 1-disc title. Time Life tells us that each will be
sub-sets of the big pack: the 6-DVD item will be the first six discs from The Ultimate Collection; the 1-DVD title is Disc
#1 from the 22-disc set (w/"Went With The Wind"), and the 2-DVD title consists of the 2nd and 3rd DVDs from the big
package. So if you're looking to save money, one of these may be the way to go; they'll be out Sept. 25 (Amazon
begins pre-selling them about a month before that). But if you're looking for other material on these budget-priced
sets, then you'll do well to just stick with The Ultimate Collection:
