The Learning Farm / Yayasan Karang Widya is a non-profit organization whose

goal is to enable disadvantaged youth to become more economically self-sufficient,


capable, and productive members of their communities through participation in a
residential training program where they learn about organic farming, enterprise
development, and valuable life skills. The organic farming interventions transform
participants’ values, outlook, and expectations of self and community and equip them
with tangible, marketable skills while working and participating in a purposeful,
communal, environment.

The Learning Farm / Yayasan Karang Widya is looking for Indonesian nationals to apply
for the position of Executive Director. Interested applicants are invited to apply by

Job Title: Executive Director, The Learning Farm

Function:

• To implement the strategic goals and objectives of the organization


• Enable the Board to fulfill its governance function
• To give direction and leadership toward the achievement of the organization's
philosophy, mission, strategy, and its annual goals and objectives

Reports to: Board of Trustees

Major Functions/ Accountabilities:

1. Fundraising -- Oversees fundraising planning and implementation, including


identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing
strategies to approach potential donors, submitting proposals and administrating
fundraising agreements, records and documentation
a. Key issues include securing sufficient funding for purchase of land for an
independent site
2. Human Resource Management -- Effectively manages the human resources of the
organization according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully
conform to current laws, regulations and personnel policy
3. Program and Service Delivery -- Oversees design, implementation, evaluation of
programs, products and services which includes
a. Basic residential training program
b. Advanced residential training program
c. Alumni assistance program
d. Training and organizing of local farmers
e. Livestock banks
f. Visitors training from local and international schools
g. Organic farm production and marketing
4. Financial, Tax, Risk and Facilities Management –
a. Recommends yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manages
organization's resources within those budget guidelines according to
current Yayasan and donor regulations and procedures
b. Ensures location tenure is stable and ongoing and secures agreement for
use of an alternative location if needed
5. Community and Public Relations -- Assures the organization and its mission,
programs, products and services are consistently presented in strong, positive
image to relevant stakeholders, including:
a. Vulnerable youth, community and organizations of origin
b. Maleber Tea Plantation company and community
c. Donors
d. Customers, supporters, volunteers
e. Expatriate community
f. Appropriate cultural and governmental institutions
g. General Indonesian society
6. Board Administration and Support -- Supports operations, administration and
further development of Board by:
a. Advising, informing and involving Board members,
b. Identifying and mobilizing action around key issues related to Board
development,
c. Facilitating a process of ongoing strategic planning, and
d. Interfacing between Board, key advisors and staff.
7. Reporting – Ensures all relevant reporting is accomplished for program activities
to all relevant stakeholders.

Knowledge and Skills

1. Skilled in the operations and administration of a foundation or other non-profit


organization or other programs and activities.
2. Skilled in oral and written communications including negotiations.
3. Skilled in public speaking and presentations.
4. Experience in fundraising, proposal writing and donor management
5. Knowledge of sustainable development, organic farming and non-formal
education and youth development.
6. Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects.
7. Ability to work independently.
8. Skilled in the operation of generally accepted computer software including
Internet related activities.

Minimum Qualifications of the Executive Director

1. Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in


education, agriculture, public administration, business, political science, program
administration or a closely related field.
2. Seven years of professional work experience in management level positions of
increasing seniority.
3. Willingness to travel between Jakarta and Cipanas.
