COURSE DESCRIPTION:
At the dawn of the 21st century, nations are more economically integrated than at any other point
in human history. This presents business leaders with unprecedented opportunities & challenges.
On one hand it gives businesses access to larger markets, henceforth giving them the opportunity
to increase profitability and on the other hand, the era of globalization has also increased the
potential competitors as firms now not only compete with local firms but also have to compete
against international competitors. Henceforth such competitive business environment requires
managers who are capable of strategizing in an international context. Therefore the main aim of
this course is to provide knowledge about business and management issues in the global
perspective. Furthermore this course also provides students with the opportunity to explore
business knowledge of different culture, legal policies, and impact of globalization which will in
turn help them in formulating strategies in order to compete in this heterogeneous International
Market.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
To understand the opportunities and challenges associated with International Business.
To critically analyze the International Business Environment that includes culture,
political, legal and technological issues.
To have a deep understanding about the various trade theories, international trade policy
and the monetary system.

REFERENCE TEXT:
Hill CWL (2009), International Business: Competing in the Global Marketplace, 8th
Edition, London: McGraw-Hill and Irwin.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY:
Students are advised to refrain from any type of cheating and/or plagiarism. Any student acting
otherwise will receive an F in the course. School of Business, IUB, maintains a zero tolerance
policy regarding violation of academic integrity.

Students are not allowed to keep bags, handouts, books, mobile phones, smart watches or any
other smart electronic devices with them during any exam. Students are advised to keep
everything in the front of the class room before the exam starts. Please note that, just carrying
any smart electronic devises (even if the devise is turned off or put it in silent mode) during the
exam will be considered as cheating. Moreover, during the exam, anything written on hand
palms (or anywhere else) and carrying paper materials (whatever is written) will be considered as
cheating. Any sorts of cheating will result in an F grade with no exception. During the
exam, students are only allowed to carry pen, pencil, eraser, sharpener, ruler, highlighter and
calculator in a clear plastic bag.

Awarding of Incomplete or I grades should be strongly discouraged. I grades will only be


allowed for students who have a valid reason (ascertained by the senior management). I grades
must be cleared within one month of grade submission.
WITHDRAWAL (W):
A W grade means withdrawal. A student may decide to withdraw from a course by the
deadline. Students must apply to the Program Office for withdrawal from a course with the
permission of the concerned course instructor, Academic Advisor, and the Dean.
AUTOMATIC WITHDRAWAL:
A student can misses a maximum of 8 classes for a particular course. After that the course will
be automatically withdrawn. A student automatically withdrawn from a course will NOT be
allowed to UNDO it under any circumstances.
PEDAGOGY:
Course content may vary slightly. These variations will be announced in advance.
No makeup examinations (quiz, midterm, final) will be taken.
There will be four (3) quizzes. Best TWO quizzes will be counted. An average of all
quizzes will be counted if a student misses any one off the quizzes.
Assignment/Project have to be submitted on due date. Failing to submit on due date will
be penalized. Please submit assignment online (via email) for any unavoidable
circumstances of submission date.
ONLINE LEARNING PLATFORM:
In addition to class teaching, lecture PowerPoint, announcements and other information should be
placed on the blackboard page. Students are advised to check the course blackboard page and
download the required materials at http://www.sb.iub.edu.bd/index.php/my-sb/studymaterials.html.
AUTOMATIC WITHDRAWAL:
A student can miss a maximum of 8 classes for a particular course. After that, the course will be
automatically withdrawn.
