TOMS RIVER - The state can seize parts of oceanfront land for a beach replenishment project in Ocean
County, a judge has ruled.

Ford ruled against 28 oceanfront property owners who
had asked the judge to block the state Department of
Environmental Protections attempts to acquire a portion of their land to build bigger beaches.
The ruling could help pave the way for a long-delayed beach replenishment project from the Manasquan to Barnegat inlets, an area that was among the
hardest hit when superstorm Sandy roared ashore in
October 2012.
The DEP has been collecting easements the legal
documents beachfront homeowners must sign to give
access to their land so that the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers can complete the beach replenishment
work. Some holdouts have refused to sign easements,
and dozens of them have challenged the DEPs condemnation process in court.
