Introduction:

 ) Context: Title, target audience (grade level and course), time frame, TEKS
addressed.
 b) Project Description – A brief discussion of the central theme or concepts and
the scope and sequence of lessons including student milestones and final product.
 c) Driving Question – Provides the focus for the Project-based unit and meets
criteria for a driving question as discussed in this class.
 d) Overall Goals – Narrative describing how the individual lessons will develop
the “big ideas” about the project’s underlying science. Puts the project objectives
into a larger context.
 e) Learning performances –Describes how students display and use their skills
and knowledge throughout or by the end of the project. Includes both content and
skills.
 f) Rationale – Describes the reason this project is significant and should be done.
Sells the project to a wider audience of parents, school administrators, experts in
the fields, etc. What advantages are there to taking a project-based approach?
Include literature references to justify key decisions in curriculum, instruction,
and assessment.

Proposal Checklist

The Introduction/Proposal Summary:

__ Clearly states who is applying for the funds


__ Describes the purpose and goals of the project
__ Is short and to the point, interesting and free of "educational jargon"
 The Rationale/Potential Impact and Needs Statement:
__ Directly relates to the District', State or National goals and standards
__ Is reasonable and focused for success – i.e. - doesn't try to solve all the world's
ills in one fell swoop
__ Is supported by evidence that it can work (a preliminary study or similar
example that has been successfully implemented)
__ Focuses on the needs of the students/staff/community for broadest impact, not
solely for the good of the person/team applying
__ Makes a compelling argument for funding
 The Description of the Project, Objectives and Activities:
__ Describes the project’s objectives in measurable terms
__ Include time lines for obtaining the objectives: Calendar
__ Describes how each objective will be assessed: Calendar and rubrics
__ Describes the sequence of events: Calendar
__ Describes all resources – including school-based personnel and/or experts from
the community at large who will share responsibility and/or support for the
project.
__ Is reasonable and can be completed within the time lines given

sources for materials/equipment/supplies to be purchased, etc.
__ Is sufficient to accomplish the tasks described in the activities and objectives
Appendix:
CV (Curriculum Vitae) – Include one for each member of the application team.
Other supporting materials: i.e. images of specialized equipment or structures to
be built, annotated web resources, weekly calendars, sample project, etc.
