Problem 1. A ball is dropped from the roof of a

building 40meters tall will hit the ground
with a velocity of?

Problem 2. Using a powerful air gun, a steel ball

is shot vertically upward with a velocity of
80 meters per second, followed by
another shot after 5 seconds. Find the
initial velocity of the second ball in order
to meet the first ball 150 meters from the
ground?

Problem 3. A ball is thrown vertically upward

from the ground and a student gazing out
of a window sees it moving upward pass
him at 5m/sec. The window is 10 m above
the ground. How high does the ball go
above the ground?

B. Curvilinear Translation
1. Projectile or Trajectory

Note:
-y is maximum when
Vy is zero (0)
-Horizontal Velocity is
always constant

Problem 4. A projectile is fired on a horizontal

ground with an initial velocity of 10m/s.
The projectile is fired to such angle that it
can reach the farthest point on the
ground.
a) Find the maximum height reach by the
projectile in meters?
b) Find the total time of travel in seconds?
c) Find the maximum horizontal distance
travelled by the projectile in meters?

Problem 5. A plane dropped a bomb at an

elevation of 1000 m from the ground
intended to hit the target at an elevation
of 200 meters from the ground. If the plane
was flying at a velocity of 300 km/hr, at
what distance from the target must the
bomb be dropped to hit the target. Wind
velocity and atmospheric pressure to be
disregarded.

Problem 6. A projectile is launched upward at

an initial slope of 4 vertical to 3 horizontal.
The ground sloped downward such that
the projectile hits the ground at a point 2
m lower than that of the origin. The
maximum height of the flight is attained at
a horizontal distance 8 m away from the
origin.
a) Find the initial velocity of the
projectile.
b) Find the total horizontal distance
travelled by the projectile in meters.
c) Find the maximum height attained by
the projectile measured from the origin.

Problem 7. A projectile is fired with a muzzle

velocity of 300 m/s from a gun aimed
w/ the
upward at an angle of
horizontal, from the top of building 30 m
high above a level ground. With what
velocity will it hit the ground in m/s?

Problem 8. A rotating wheel has a radius of 2

feet and 6 inches. A point on the rim of the
wheel moves 30 feet in 2 sec. Find the
angular velocity of the wheel.

Problem 9. A turbine started from rest to 180

rpm in 6 minutes at a constant
acceleration. Find the number of
revolutions that it makes with the elapsed
time.

C. D Alemberts Principle:
-When the body is subjected to an
acceleration, there exists a force opposite the
direction of the motion and equal to the
product of mass and acceleration. It is called
the Reverse Effective Force.

with
inclined downward at an angle of
the horizontal. The coefficient of kinetic
friction between the block and the plane is
0.25. The block is initially at rest and it
bottom is 6m higher than the ground.
a) Find the acceleration of the block in /
b) Find the velocity of the block after it
travels a vertical distance of 3 m, in
/ .
c) Find the time it will take before the block
hits the ground, in seconds.

Problem 11. A 200 N block is being pulled by a

constant force as shown in the figure. The
block, initially at rest, attained a velocity at
10 m/s after travelling40 m.
a) Find the acceleration of the block during
the first 40 m of motion.
b) Find the coefficient of kinetic friction
between the bottom of the block and
the horizontal plane.
c) Find the distance travelled by the block
