Montage
DATE:
February 13, 2016
COURSE:
COMM 130 Visual Media
Section 14
INSTRUCTOR:
Brother Jason Stucki
OBJECTIVE:
Create a spiritual montage using photoshop skills
PROGRAMS USED:
Adobe InDesign, Photoshop
DESCRIPTION:
This is an inspirational montage made by the blending of
two images, with the use of tasteful typography.
PROCESS:
I started with the temple photo and setting the image size to 1920 x 1275 pixels
I adjusted the levels of intensity and brightened it a little
Next I increased the vibrance/saturation levels to bring out the sunset colors more
The Christus image I lassoed the outline of Christ with a
feather 100px and then flipped it horizontally
I added Christus image to the temple photo and applied a mask
I brushed at 100% to get rid of the background on the Christus then I
did 50% to fade the rest and blend in with the temple sunset.
I then added the scripture reference and worked with the
fonts to come up with a pleasing combination.
I tried different colors of typeface, first I tried red from the sunset. This looked nice,
but when my daughter suggested I use blue, it kept with the theme of peace.
I sharpened the image of the temple a little to help emphasize it more.
I refined the grouping and indented the words to follow the lines of the Christus.

Event Ad
DATE:

COURSE:
COMM 130 Visual Media
Section 14
INSTRUCTOR:
Brother Jason Stucki
OBJECTIVE:
Create an Event Ad using only Microsoft Office Word, and scanning an image
PROGRAMS USED:
Microsoft Office Word, Scanned image
DESCRIPTION:
This project was created using Microsoft Office Word and
scanning in a photo and using the correct pixilation.

PROCESS:
I first found an image from a National Geographic magazine and scanned
it into my computer using the correct pixalation for the image to be used
at larger scale. Then I came up with an event idea and ran with it! I used a
color scheme that would compliment the photo of the clown fish by bringing
out the teal and brick colors, making it a complimentary color scheme.
I used the bubbles to create interest for the reader and have the
information in each bubble. This was a fun project to do.

Section 14
INSTRUCTOR:
Brother Jason Stucki
OBJECTIVE:
Testing
PROGRAMS USED:
Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop
DESCRIPTION:
This is a web page showcasing a personally created Logo.
PROCESS:
I created this web page using TextWrangler. I love to write code! It is so much fun to see
how it looks as a web page. I was able to use the http://www.W3.org HTML validator.
It was useful to check my code for any errors, which I was able to correct and have it
error free. After I marked up all my content and inserted my image, I attached a premade CSS document to my HTML. I then used the colors from my logo as the colors for
my web page. I found these colors by opening Photoshop and using the eyedropper
tool. I also changed my fonts to Century Gothic and Bookman Old Style. I declared
some backup fonts just in case the viewers browser didnt have these fonts. I also
used padding around the logo and text so that they would not be too close to the edge
of the web page. This was one of the most challenging parts of working with CSS!

COMM 130 Visual Media
Section 14
INSTRUCTOR:
Brother Jason Stucki
OBJECTIVE:
Learn the tools available in Photoshop to create this project.
PROGRAMS USED:
Adobe Photoshop
DESCRIPTION:
For this project we are to demonstrate good photography and image editing
skills. Incorporating color into a poster layout with an original photo
PROCESS:
I borrowed a Nikon D5000 to take my photograph. This was the fun part! I viewed the
tutorial on Light painting and tried a version of my own light painting. I staged my props
and took several photos, with rearranging the props, and changing the light source. This
was a fun process. I picked this photo, it turned out the best and I used photoshop to
adjust the level, sharpness, saturation levels, and color. It was harder in Photoshop than
InDesign to place my objects. I had to set each one before I could move on to another.
In InDesign, I can move, place, adjust all at once. I was able to use the Warp tool for
the text and angle my title to match the Raiders of the Lost Ark title. I incorporated
my color scheme with the lines in the background and added my color swatches to the
bottom. I used the eyedropper tool to match the colors in the photo, and the text.

Brochure

COURSE:
COMM 130 Visual Media
Section 14
INSTRUCTOR:
Brother Jason Stucki
OBJECTIVE:
Create a two-sided brochure using an orginal logo and at
least 4 photographs with one being clipped.
PROGRAMS USED:
Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop
DESCRIPTION:
A two-sided(duplex) Offset brochure
PROCESS:
The first thing I worked on was creating the logo for Heather Rose Moser Photography.
I incorporated the lens of the camera to look like a rose. I used Illustrator to create this
logo using the pen tool creating the shapes and then the font Luminari for the letters.
Next I asked Heather to chose her top favorite photos to include in the brochure. These
photos also showcase her abilities. I picked the topic headings for each paragraph
to go with the photography. I used Photoshop to enhance some of the pictures,
and to clip the one of Heather. In this process I used the quick selection tool.
I worked and reworked the layout of the photographs. It is hard to make sure that when
you place a photo next to another that it is complimentary in composition and color. It
was a little challenging. I really liked using the text wrap in InDesign to help create
interest with the words in the brochure. During this process I feel comfortable using
the Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop programs. I also chose
to use oval framing of the photos, it seemed less harsh than rectangular, but I wanted
the photos that were on the offset to follow the edge of the page and be rectangular.

PROGRAMS USED:
Adobe Illustrator
DESCRIPTION:

PROCESS:
I used Adobe Illustrator to create my design. I used the inspiration from my
daughters future film company. I created the swirl design using the pen tool
and once I had it created I was able to copy and paste repeatedly to create
the swirls in the tree. I turned them at different angles to create interest. This
turned out very fun to do. I place one apple on the tree for emphasis

Logo Design

INSTRUCTOR:
Brother Jason Stucki
OBJECTIVE:
To creat a viable logo that would be recognizable at 1 inch as well as full page.
PROGRAMS USED:
Adobe Illustrator
DESCRIPTION:
Create an orignal Logo for a company.
PROCESS:
I really like to use Adobe Illustrator. I provides an extensive amount of tools
and ability to create almost anything. I sketched out many ideas of logos for
my company. I settled on three designs to be voted on and the deciding vote
was the one that I liked the most too. The typography was the hardest to get
just right. I think I have it right now. I tried nearly all in my library. I used
the pen tool the most with this project. I really like to draw using vectors.

OBJECTIVE:
To learn how to make an eye catching flier with minimal
information but appealing to the audience.
PROGRAMS USED:
Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop
DESCRIPTION:
Project 1 Graduate Leadership Conference Flyer
PROCESS:
I created 4 sketches of my project. Next, I used Adobe InDesign to create my flyer
from one of my sketches. I was able to use the various tools in InDesign with ease
and create an appealing flyer. I used good flow so that the eye will travel around the
flyer and catch all the important details. I used contrast with my color to make the
most important items stand out. I created unity with alignment of my text. I used
repetition with my triangles. The focal point is the word Leadership at the top.
