S&P SL20

Activity rises during latter part of the week

The Colombo bourse started off the week, following the Easter weekend, with a
decline in both indices, which continued for a second day. However, the indices took
a turn on Wednesday as bargain hunters gathered around low priced growth stocks,
in the absence of Institutional participation. The market gained momentum subsequently to continue in a positive direction during the last two days of the week.
However, on a week on week basis, the benchmark ASPI declined 9.44 points, while
the S&P SL20 index appreciated 14.71 points to close the week at 6,083.01 points
and 3,212.01 points respectively.
ASIR; the top contributor to the market
ASIR contributed the most to the cumulative market turnover, aided by seven negotiated deals on both Monday and Friday. The cumulative turnover of the stock recorded at LKR 1.33bn contributing ~32% to the market. The stock closed LKR 0.90
higher at LKR 24.30. Conglomerate JKH followed the turnover rankings with a contribution of ~13% to the market turnover, aided by a few crossings on Wednesday and
Friday.
BFI counters close flat post ex dividend dates
The interest on banking sector counters was relatively low, as the Ex dividend dates
have ended, thus, making the new investors ineligible for the announced dividends.
Footwear & Textiles sector emerged as the top sector gainer, while Beverage, Food
& Tobacco sector emerged as the top sector loser.
Average daily turnover at LKR 829mn
The cumulative turnover for the week recorded at LKR 4.14bn, with an average daily
turnover of LKR 829mn. Crossings accounted for ~93% of the total turnover, mainly
aided by the crossings on ASIR, which accounted for LKR 1.29bn. The retail participation remained low, while the Institutional investors and foreigners seemed to be
more active during this week. However, the foreigners aligned on to the selling side,
recording a net foreign outflow of LKR 163mn.
