TEAMTALK
The Balinese surely have an eye for intricate details from their simple canang (offerings)
placed on the side of the street to the detailed craftsmanship on their traditional houses and
temples, you can see that the Balinese are fond of the aesthetic art that they express in their
daily lives.
The Ogoh-Ogoh Parade is one of the best examples of how the Balinese love of art plays
an important role in their many rituals. The parade, also known as Pengerupukan Day, is
held one day prior to Silent Day, where monstrous dolls (ogoh-ogoh) representing the dark
forces are marched on the streets before being destroyed and burned to keep Mother Earth in

balance. But the equally interesting part is the making of the ogoh-ogoh using eco-friendly
material, an ogoh-ogoh is made by a large group of people as our contributor Agung
Parameswara explains in Craft & Culture.
Bali is also home to contemporary art, where numerous talented artists, local and
international, reside or visit on a regular basis. View from a Cloud, an art movement
established in 2015, aims to make contemporary art more easily accessible to everyone by
creating a virtual gallery that connects art enthusiasts to the artists. They also host exhibitions
regularly ip through Foto Folio to see their creations. Meanwhile, the Dream Museum
Zone in Seminyak boasts a number of 3D paintings. With a bit of imagination and creativity,
you can make fun photos with these paintings check out Little Loves to see our version of
fun at the museum.
Of course we have lots more stories just for you, like searching for unique bed and
breakfasts in Bali in Rest & Relaxation and an interview with renowned Balinese shoe
businesswoman Niluh Djelantik in Prole & Portrait. So make yourself comfortable and
happy ipping through our pages!
