Montage
Description: An inspirational montage created by blending 7 photos together, and the use of
creative typography.

Programs used: Adobe Photoshop.

Date: February 14, 2016
Objectives:

Unify a layout with a consistent theme and typography

Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image

Processes:

1. I set the image to be 11in x 8.5in so that it could be printable on a sheet of paper.
2. I put the image of the stars in first. I adjusted the colors, first I selected the yellows are
turned them a deeper peach and then I selected the black and turned it a dark blue color. I
also put a blue solid color mask over the entire picture to bring out the blues more.
3. I put Christ under the earth layer and blended him in by first putting down a layer mask and
then by using the brush tool.
4. I then put the basket texture picture in and using a layer mask brushed out the earth and
turned the opacity down to 15%.
5. I played with the text for awhile to align it and make certain words stand out.
6. In order to make the text pop I had to use the dodge and burn tools on the star picture layer.

Brochure
Description: A two sided (duplex) folding brochure.
Programs used: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
Date: March 26, 2016
Objectives:

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.

Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.
Images clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign

Processes:

This project required the use of a lot of programs. I used Adobe Illustrator to make my personal
logo that I put on the back. I used InDesign to layout the brochure. I used Photoshop to cut out
the family that is on the inside of the brochure. When I first started this assignment I kind of had
a different theme for page, there wasnt much continuity. However once I created the inside,
I really liked this idea of the blue bars. So I decided to make that my theme throughout the
brochure. I used the same blue that is contained in the logo so that the colors would stay consistent.

PhotoDesign
Description: Demonstrate good photography and image editing skills, while also tying in and
identifying a color scheme.

Programs used: Photoshop

Date: February 7, 2016
Objectives:

Take a quality original image, choose a color scheme to go with it

Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.

Processes:

I formulated a plan and decided that I wanted to take a picture of a plant. On my way to the
library I saw this beautiful berry bush and the red berries look striking against the snow. I captured this picture using a Cannon PowerShot camera. I edited this image using Photoshop. I
bumped up the levels, to whiten out some of the foliage in the background. I also edited the
vibrance/saturation, used the sharpen tool, and put a teal layer mask over the image to add
some color.
I decided to keep the color scheme simple monochromatic red. I was having a hard time making the letters stand out and that when I played with putting some circles behind it. I concluded
that one large circle was the best way to go, in order to keep the design striking and elegant.

Event Ad
Description: A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft Word
and a scanner.

Programs used: Word and a scanner

Date: January 29, 2016
Objectives:

Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together)

Create a full-bleed design.vvzz
Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Processes:

I scanned this image at 300 ppi so a good resolution could be maintained. I filled the lower left
hand corner box with a rich red color to unify the rich, warm feeling that one gets when seeing
the image and when thinking of warmth since its a fundraiser to make and distribute blankets. I decided to keep the text all white because it really pops in contrast to the dark background. This whole design was used only using Microsoft Word, its amazing how many capabilities this program has!

Web Page
Description: A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo.
Programs used: HTML and CSS
Date: March 13, 2016
Objectives:

Take a quality original image, choose a color scheme to go with it

Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.

Processes:

I created this webpage using text wrangler and Notepad++ (for pcs). I had never created anything in css, so that was new. I had to look up some things on the internet, but overall it was
pretty straightforward. The logo is a personally created logo and the colors of the webpage are
meant to compliment it.

Flier
Description: A Black and white flier that is promoting a leadership conference for graduates.
Programs used: InDesign
Date: January 24, 2016
Objectives:

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.

Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.

Processes:

I created four sketches of potential design ideas. After picking the best one, I created the flier in
Adobe InDesign. I ran my initial flier design by a couple fellow designers as well as some people
who are not designers. After receiving feedback I made changes accordingly. I used the two
black bars in the flier to create symmetry and unity, as well as to draw attention to two of the
most important details what the conference is about (gaining competitive edge) and the date,
time and place. The title at the top is clear and bold and the word leadership is emphasized to
draw attention to all those who are seeking to be leaders. The content for this flier (text, logo,
and picture) were provided for me.

Business Card
Description: Create an original business card
Programs used: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator
Date: February 28, 2016
Objectives:

Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use
previous designs.

Processes:

First I made the logo in InDesign using the brush tool, I played around with different brush
strokes until I could find one that gave the wave life. I then placed the logo in an Adobe Illustrator file. I then gad to decide on a layout that would make my business card interesting and appealing. My design is kind of crazy, but I wanted it like that to call peoples attention.

Stationary
Description: Create an original letterhead to match my business card.
Programs used: Illustrator and InDesign
Date: February 28, 2016
Objectives:

Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use
previous designs.

Processes:

I made the letter head, trying to use the same fonts and styles to match the business card. It
took me awhile to find a font that I was happy with; a font that matched the modern wave.

Logo
Description: A logo for my hypothetical design company.
Programs used: Illustrator
Date: February 20, 2016
Objectives:

Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos.
Refine one logo with variations for color

Processes:
I created several logo options and after actually designing 3 of them I took a vote.
This was the design that was rated highest, it actually was not my personal favorite but after trying out each of the logos as a watermark in the corner of a photo
I had taken this was the one that looked best. So I decided to go with the popular
vote and functionality of this design. I then modified the thickness of the middle
diamond and the alignment of the text to improve the design. I then made it usable for black and white print, and white on a color background.
