Oliver es un nio hurfano que ha perdido a

ambos padres. Pasa sus primeros aos en el

asilo de la seora Mann. Al igual que el resto de
nios en el orfanato, Oliver sufre hambre
continuamente. Los nios deciden entonces
jugar a quin de ellos pedir ms comida y
Oliver resulta ser el elegido. En la cena de esa
noche, despus de su racin normal, se dirige
al director del orfanato y le pide ms comida.
Debido a este episodio es tachado de
problemtico por el Sr. Bumble, el bedel y el
director, quien lo ofrece como aprendiz a
cualquiera que lo quiera contratar. As, Oliver
se convierte en aprendiz del enterrador
Sowerberry; sin embargo, se pelea con un
empleado del enterrador y decide escapar a
Londres.
En las afueras de la ciudad, cansado y
hambriento, conoce a Jack Dawkins, quien le
ofrece un lugar donde hospedarse en Londres.

historia. Es un nio muy inocente e incluso un
poco melanclico. Al inicio vive en un hospicio
junto a otros nios pero un da, al cumplir 9, es
llevado por el Sr. Bumble para hacer trabajos
junto a otros nios de hospicio.
Fagin: Anciano judo quien dirige una banda de
ladrones (Compuesta por Sikes, Nancy, Bet,
Dodger, Charley. Toby, Barney,jack etc). Si bien
es un personaje cmico con un lado bueno, a
pesar de esto guarda un tesoro con los robos
de los nios que ha adquirido con el tiempo.
Bill Sikes: Edad: 35 aos. Probablemente el
personaje mas macabro del libro. Ladrn al
servicio de Fagin desde nio, es un brutal
criminal cuya novia es Nancy, quien lo tolera
porque es "igual que ella" y porque cree que la

He spends his first years in the asylum Mrs.

alto. El es quien lleva a Oliver con Fagin. Al ver
que Oliver no tiene inters de convertirse en
ladrn, insiste y trata de motivarlo.
Nancy: Edad: 17 aos Ladrona al servicio de
Fagin, aunque visiblemente odia ese tipo de
vida. Esta enamorada de Sikes y por eso
aguanta sus malos tratos, se sabe que no es por
amor sino por culpa pues cree que no puede
tener una vida normal y debe resignarse (algo
que recuerda a Nastasia Filippovna, del libro El
Idiota).
Charley Bates: Edad: aproximadamente entre
11 y 12 Nio ladrn al servicio de Fagin y amigo
de Dodger. Es divertido y excntrico. Charley,
junto con Dodger, roban el bolso del Sr.
Brownlow y Oliver es culpado por eso. Vuelve a
aparecer en ocasiones menores para alegrar
con su torpeza y diversin.
Sr. Brownlow: Acoge a Oliver despus de ser
acusado injustamente de robarle. hace lo
posible por l, pero le raptan e intenta
localizarlo de todas las maneras, al final lo
