Advanced Training 3 Day Course

Objective of Course This course covers advanced tools of Revit MEP, including services co-ordination,
Working within a team, phasing, design options and advanced content creation. Delegates are taught the
advanced concepts of Building Information Modelling and the advanced tools for parametric MEP design
and documentation.
Who Should Attend? This course is designed for intermediate users of Revit MEP.
Prerequisites An intermediate knowledge of Revit MEP is required, preferably the Revit MEP Essentials
Training Course. An architectural design, drafting or engineering experience is highly recommended. It is
recommended that delegates have a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows 7/Vista or Microsoft
Windows XP.

Modelling with Massing - Adding floors, walls, roof, curtain system
In-place Family - Extrusion, Blend, Revolve, Sweep, swept blend
- Interact with normal elements, Ie. Stepped Foundations, Baluster, Plaster band Adding Inserts to an InPlace Family Joining In-Place Families to Other Geometry Use Cut Geometry with In-place Void and
Standard Wall Editing the In-Place Family Tag in-place family
Family Basics creating using templates. ie. 2d tags, 2d profile, 3d Column, Using 2d Symbolic Lines,
Setting Object Visibility
Family Editor Use Table Example
Family Editor Command Basics, Famiily Types and Templates
Guidelines for Creating Families - Maintain Relationships with Ref planes - Then Map solids to Ref planes
Adding Parameters for Variables ie. Length Width Height.
Creating Formulas use Family Types
Examples: 2D - Space Tag,
- Detail Components can add parameters to 2D & nest them into 3D Objects
- Line based Detail Components ( use nested Symbol )
2D/3D - Sweep Profiles
3D - Light Fixture White light by Default IES files
Table and Chairs - Array
Nested Array Louvers in Window Family
Material Parameter for solid objects
Session 6
Use of 2D Symbolic Lines ie light fitting. Lines

Categories and sub-categories Object Styles

Setting Detail Line Visibility
isibility control of Solids/Lines
Use of Ref Lines instead of Ref Planes ( Angles)
Applying Formulas to Arrays and Dimensions
Use of Visibility toggle Setting up a Yes/No parameter for component Visibility.
Complex Family Creation Shared Parameters
Go File Shared Parameters.
Create .txt with Parameters.
Add these parameters into a family
When using this family containing the Shared Par. In your .RVT file - Goto Settings Project Parameters
and select/link this
Shared Parameter to the current drawing.
Type Catalogues
Create .txt file with same name.
1st Line : ,parameter name##type##unit etc.
2nd Line : Name, value, value
3rd Line : Another name, value, value
