Usually,whensomebodypointsoutoneofourshortcomings,weimmediatelybecome
defensiveandstartfindingfaultswiththem.ButtheadviceofourbelovedRasulAllah(sal

Ifthereissomethingwecanimproveaboutourselves,itisonlytoourownadvantagetodoso.

inquiredifhehaddonesomethingwrong.RasulAllahrepliedthataslongashehadbeen
silent,angelshadbeenspeakingonhisbehalf,butwhenhestartedtorespond,thedevilcame
andsatdownnexttohim.AstheProphet(salAllahualaihiwasallam)couldnotremain
seatedwherethedevilwassitting,heleft.

youwillcompeteamongstyourselvesforit,asthey
competedforit,anditwilldestroyyouasitdid

Wealthislikewaterandhumanbeingsarelikeships.
Shipsreachtheirdestinationsbyusingwatertocover
distances.However,ifwatergoesinsidetheship,
thenitcausestheshiptosink.Similarly,ifweusewealthtoearnAllahspleasureandbringus
closertoJannah,thereisnothinglikeit.Butiftheloveofwealthentersourhearts,thenitdestroys
us.
Afterwebegintolovewealththenwecompetewitheachotherforit.Jealousyandillwillenter
ourlives.Afterthatitceasestomattertothepersonhowtheyearnwealth,byhalalmeansor
haram,andtheyforgetaboutpreparingfortheHereafter.Theydonotusetheirwealthtoearn
Jannat.Thus,thepersonisdestroyed.

replied,No.TheSahabahsaid,Then1/2ofit?TheProphet(salAllahualaihiwasallam)said,
Even1/3istoomuch,for,toleaveyourinheritorswealthyisbetterthantoleavetheminpoverty,
beggingfrompeople.And(knowthat)whateveryouspendinAllahsCause,youwillgetreward
forit,evenforthemorseloffoodwhichyouputinyourwifesmouth.[Bukhari]

Fromthishadithwelearnthatwemaywillawayamaximumofathirdofourwealth.Theother
twothirdsmustbedistributedaccordingtotherulesofinheritancelaiddownbyAllah(subhana

sourceofrewardwithAllah(subhanawataala).Wemustnotneglectourfamilyandrelatives

WhatthishadithmeansisthatShaytaanarouses
theirpassionsandincitesthemtocommitevil.
Preventionisbetterthancure.Fornicationand
adulteryriptoshredsthepsychologicalhealthof
society.Sincethefamilyisthebuildingblockofsociety,forasocietytobehealthy,itmusthave
healthyfamiliesthatconstituteit.Topreventanysituationarisingwhichmightharmthefamily
unit,Islamnipsthesourceofproblemsinthebud.Apersonisresponsiblenotonlyforhimselfor
herselfbutforthespiritual,emotional,psychologicalandphysicalwellbeingoftheirchildrenas
muchasitisintheircontrol.Fromtheirchildrenwillarisemanymoregenerations.Keepingthis
inmindwehavetodoourbesttoprovideashealthyamoralenvironmentaswecansoweare
notheldresponsibleforthedestructionoffuturegenerations.
Ifthebreakdownofthefamilyandfemalesecurityistobeaverted,onlytwostrategiesare
available:firstly,membersofsocietymaybeconditionedtobelievethatsexualityisfromthe
devil,andshouldinspirefeelingsofguiltanddistaste;orsecondly,sexualitymaybeacceptedas
thelovingexpressionofanaturalhumanneed,inwhichcasethesexesmustbeseparated,within
reason,toavoidtheriskofthetemptationofweaksoulsandhencetheirunchastity.
Historically,thefirstofthesetwochoiceshasbeenthatofChristianity,whileIslamhasoptedfor

Immodesty,obscenityandanyformofaduterybeitoftheeyes,ears,tongueorthoughtsmakesa
holeintheheart.Throughthisholeleaksouteeman.Sonomatterhowmuchyoutrytofillyour
heartwitheeman,itwillconstantlyflowoutbecauseofthishole.Whileaninappropriatethought
mightoccurtoanybody,astheShaytaanisalwaystryingtoinspirepeoplewiththese,yetitisthe
personwhodeciedswhethertoentertainsuchideas,discussion,temptationorturnawayfrom
them.
Ifyouareonaplateau,themorecentrallyyoustandthesaferyouare.Themoreyougetcloserto
thesides,thegreateristhedangerthatyoumightfallofftheedge.Therefore,toavoidthemajor
formofadultery,themorewestayawayfromtheminorformsofit,i.e.theadulteryoftheeyes,
tongue,earsandthoughts,thesaferwewillbe.Avoidmoviesthatglamorizetheimmoral.Avoid
hearingobscenetalk.Ifanindecentthoughtoccurstoyou,seekrefugewithAllah(subhanawa
taala)fromtheShaytaananddontentertainsuchthoughts.

forgivenessforthem,fulfilltheirreligiousbequests,maintainrelationshipwiththoserelatives
linkedthroughthemandhonourtheirfriends.[AbuDaud]Charityontheirbehalfaftertheir
death(also)earnsrewardforthem.[Muslim]
Oftenwerealizethevalueofsomethingonlyafteritisgone.Allah(subhanawataala)inHis
InfiniteGracehasprovidedforusameanstomakeamendsevenaslateasafterthepersonhas
alreadydied.Thishadithtellsushowwecanbedutifultoourparentsaftertheirdeath,thereby
accruingrewardsforboththemandourselves.Thesewaysare:
1.Praynamzejanazaforthem.
2.PraytoAllah(subhanawataala)toforgivethem.
3.Iftheyhaddecidedtodosomereligiousgoode.g.Hajjornaflfastsorcharitablework,then
fulfillitontheirbehalf.
4.Bekindtothoserelativeswhoarelinkedtousthroughthem.
5.Honourtheirfriends.
6.Givecharityontheirbehalf.
Insteadofwailingoverourparents,ifwetrulylovethemthenweshoulddogooddeeds
ourselves.Thisisbecausewearesadaqajaariyaforourparentsandtheyarerewardedforour
righteousness.
