The speech should exhibit all the traits of a well-informed
and engaging message.
The speech should include the effective use of appropriate
presentation aids (visual and/or audioa technological aid
is not required).
If you utilize PowerPoint or another form of computergenerated presentation, you must bring it on a USB drive
suitable for a PC.
You should have a backup for your presentation aid, as
technology is often unreliable.

There is no guarantee that the room will have


internet access, so we suggest that you do not rely on the
internet for your presentation aid.
In your speech, you should use at least 5 sources of at least
3 different types.
- Acceptable sources include:
Peer-reviewed journal article
Newspaper articles (on-line newspapers are OK)
Magazine articles
Books/e-books
Credible websites
Credible web articles
Your sources should be correctly cited according to APA
style.
You should correctly cite your sources orally within your
speech.
You should correctly cite your sources in written form on
your full-sentence outline
Speeches with no oral citations will receive an
automatic no pass.
The speech should demonstrate elements of effective
organization as well as effective oral and physical delivery.
You are evaluated on both the content and presentation of
your speech.
You may use up to seven (7) 3x5 or 4x6 delivery outline
(keyword) note cards.
Speeches that sound read or memorized are subject
to receive a result of NO PASS.
III. Additionally, you are evaluated on the written materials
described below.
Students must complete the attached Audience Analysis .
You must also prepare a full sentence preparation outline
(which includes your list of references) and make typed copy
of your outline.
If you do not bring your written materials, you will not be
allowed to give the speech.
You are expected to use at least 5 sources of information
(supporting material).
These should be of at least three different types.

You should cite your references (prepared using APA ) during


the speech, within your outline, and in a reference page at
the end of your outline.
You should bring the copies of the audience analysis &
outline, including your list of references, with you on the day
you present your informative speech
You are expected to adhere to proper audience etiquette
when listening to the other speakers.
Turn your mobile phone to off (not to vibrate or silent).
Phones that ring or vibrate will negatively affect the
evaluation of the speaker who owns the phone.
Absolutely no texting during the administration of the exam.
Do not leave the room to answer phone calls or texts, or to
make phone calls or texts.
Do not arrive late or leave early to give your speech. Be
respectful of the time others are taking to listen to you, and
stay for the entire time to listen to them.
Audience Analysis for Informative Speech
Procedure
1. Consider the criteria for the Informative Speech and think
of possible topics for the speech that will allow you to fulfill
these criteria. (Note: You should consider the questions
below as you brainstorm.)
2. Decide on a topic for the Informative Speech.
3. Write your Audience Analysis #1 paper by answering the
questions below. This paper needs to be at least 1.5
double-spaced pages.
Purpose
In general, the topic you choose for the Informative Speech
assignment should be interesting, relevant, and
understandable to the audience (your classmates). As such,
the Audience Analysis #1 paper provides an opportunity for
you to analyze the audience and think about ways to make
your speech topic interesting, relevant, and understandable.
Questions

1. What is the purpose of this speech? In other words, what it


is that you want your audience to learn from your speech? (5
pts.)
2. Why do you think its important for the audience to be
informed about your topic? Why is it relevant to them? How
does it affect them? (5 pts.)
3. In what ways will you convince your audience that your
topic is important for them to listen to? (5 pts.)
4. Based on what you know about your audience (especially,
their prior knowledge on the topic), what type of
organizational pattern will you use to organize the body of
the speech in order to maintain their interest and/or help
them better understand your topic? (5 pts.)

(1) The target audience is women who spend a good amount of time
cleaning their houses and are looking for a new, easier way to get the
job done. They want something that is safe for their family and safe
for the environment. These women have spent hours scrubbing their
floors and bathrooms and are in need of a powerful yet green way
to cut their cleaning time in half and have beautiful, sparkling results.

They have spent a lot of money on other household cleaners and are
ready to find a go-to cleaner that doesnt cost too much.
(2) The audience is knowledgeable of household cleaners. They have
tried everything. They spend their time cleaning and know whats out
there. Theyve tried the as seen on TV gimmicks as well as trusted
brand names. They know a lot about cleaners but are still waiting for
the next big thing.
(3) Our audience is typically women, between the ages of 25 and 45.
They are generally married, stay-at-home moms. The audience is
mostly middle class, with at least a high school diploma, though many
have a college degree.
(4) These women are reading about our product because they are
flipping through a home decor/womens magazine and are drawn to
the idea that a new household cleaner that can cut their cleaning time
in half is out there. They are interested in the fact that its
environmentally friendly and safe for their families while still getting
the job done. They typically do the household shopping and will be
interested to see that our product is an inexpensive option.
(5) This advertorial will be seen in home decor magazines, womens
magazines, and as inserts in the weekly coupons.
(6) As noted earlier, the audience is in need of a new way to clean the
dirtiest, hard to clean places of their house. They need something
that will clean everything, clean it well, and still be safe.
(7) Specific needs and interests that should be addressed in the
advertorial include safety, environmental footprint, cost, effectiveness,
time. It will address busy moms who need to find an effective way to
clean their houses.
(8) The audience will learn that the ingredients in our cleaner are
safe. They will learn that it is safe for use on a variety of surfaces and
cost effective. They will also learn that this is unlike other cleaners
because of how powerful our ingredients are, yet we still include
natural elements that they wont be scared to spray on the surfaces
that are touched by their children.
