Inside this issue:

The second edition of Radix, the management conclave of IIM Ranchi was
held on the 20th and 21st of
February, 2016. Radix was
launched with the idea of
incorporating right values
in young minds, imparting
education relevant for a
world that is ever connected, and to encourage
healthy competition and
collaboration. Through the
management conclave, the
students looked forward to
supplement the classroom
learning experience with
necessary industry exposure by interacting with
industry stalwarts, entrepreneurs and academic
gurus.

Radix 2016 saw some big

names who are experts at
what they do. The speakers
were Mr. Awdhesh
Krisha (MD, Global Head
of HR, Wholesale Operations, NOMURA), Mr. Sanjeev Kumar (Deputy General Manager, Corporate
Planning, MECON), Mr.
Sandeep Chatterjee
(Associate Director,
KPMG), Mr. Amit Ranjan
Dasgupta (General Manager, CET, SAIL), Mr. Amit
Choudhary (Senior Vice
President, Corporate Finance, Snapdeal), Mr. Vivek Mehta (Independent
Consultant), Mr. Saran-

deep Singh (Leadership

and Startup Consultant),
and Mr. Meesum Kazmi
(Director, Analytics Advisory, PwC).
Day 1
Day 1 of Radix 2016 started
off with an inaugural
speech by Prof. Gaurav
Marathe. His encouraging
and gracious welcome
speech touched upon some
interesting and less
thought about aspects of
business education such as
a student being exposed to
about 1500 ideas during
the course of business education.

He also talked about the 3
barriers to implementing ideas: the barrier to buy in, the
barrier to break in, and the
barrier to build. The speech
was followed with the lighting
of the lamp before the first
speaker took the stage.

years Radix.

The first speaker for the day

was Mr. Awdhesh Krisha, who
said "What matters is not
competence, but character,
not success, but significance".
He concluded saying "the
name Radix is apt, it's about
building strong roots, at the
right time and all the more
important because it's easy to
rise to the top, but difficult to
stay there."

Raghavendra Singh
Mahiyaria, Secretary, Student
Council concluded Day 1 of
Radix with a vote of thanks.

HR Neeti, the first annual HR

magazine by HiRe, the HR
Club of IIM Ranchi, based on
the theme 'Big Data and HR
Analytics' was launched at the
event.
Mr. Sandeep Chaterjee took
the stage next, and talked
about strategy, and emphasized on the importance of
implementation. He also
stressed on why you shouldn't
decouple strategy and execution.
Mr. Amit Ranjan Dasgupta
pointed out that IIM, apart
from Indian Institute of Management, also stands for
'I'deas to 'IM'plementation,
which was the theme of this

The next speaker, Mr. Sanjeev

Kumar, stressed on the importance of carrying out risk
assessment in the journey
'From Ideas to Implementation'.

Day 2
Prof. Rohit Kumar, in his welcome speech, emphasized the
importance of putting students in the center of all activities and mentioned that IIM
Ranchi is a student centric
institute.
Mr. Amit Choudhary, the first
speaker for the day mentioned
"A good idea is 10% the job
done, and hard work and execution is the remaining 90%."
Our next speaker, Mr. Vivek
Mehta, started off by saying
"I ignite business ideas, fertilize, and then incubate
them." He urged students to
never say no to an idea and to
listen to and synthesize every
idea that they come across. He
also mentioned that the quality that breeds success is positive attitude and that even the
smallest idea becomes implementable then. He concluded
by saying Marketing today

has to fulfil the emotional and

rational needs of the consumer from day 1. It is not just
about making noise anymore."
The next speaker,
Mr. Sarandeep Singh, was
absolutely amazing and he got
the conclave brimming with
energy, laughs, and excitement! He got everyone thinking about their strengths and
weaknesses, and requested
everyone to focus on strengths
and to set aside weaknesses!
He also got everyone to discuss their ideas with their idea
-partners and the ideapartners to suggest ways to get
it off the ground and get them
implemented.
Mr. Meesum Kazmi kicked off
the post lunch session by demystifying the journey from
strategy to execution for the
students of IIM Ranchi.
The interactions were followed by a panel discussion on
the theme Baby Steps or Big
Leap. The two days of interactions and exchange of ideas
were not only enlightening,
but also exciting. With the
ideas, and the strategies and
tactics to implement those
ideas recorded safely in the
minds of students, the second
edition of Radix, the management conclave of IIM Ranchi
drew the curtains.

The traditional farewell ceremony for the batch of 2014
16 was held at the Ranchi
Gymkhana Club on the 18th of
February, 2016. The already
colourful venue became even
more so, as the students
walked in dressed in their
best, and settled down in
groups around tables. Soon
the discussions, jokes and
laughs brought alive the place
as more and more people
poured in. The junior batch
had some fun events planned,

which started off with a short

video that captured 2014 16
batchs two years at IIM Ranchi.
As the music started, everyone
got to their feet, dancing to the
tunes, and taking occasional
breaks to chat. It was fun
watching students either moving or getting dragged along
from one group to the other
and changing the dance steps
to sync with that of the group.

As the evening wore on, dancing continued, but the thought

started to weigh heavily on
everyone that soon the batch
of 2014 16 would be leaving
the campus and starting off on
a new journey.
At the end of the night, the
junior batch wished the senior
batch the best of luck for their
new lives, hoping that they
would cherish the memories
of their friends and the bonds

The celebrations kicked off

with the event Moonlight Serenade, in which the students
recited poems around the
warmth of the bonfire. Sharon
recited one of her own compositions, enchanting everyone

present at the gathering.

The DJ, with the selection of
upbeat songs, got the crowd
moving around the roaring
fire. The dance, with students
forming several small circles
around the fire was delightful
to watch with the flames dancing along and the shadows
