Research and development (R&D)

Web-based Intelligent Machine Selection System (WIMSS), a component of Web-based


Die and Mould Expert System (eDMES). WIMSS started in July 2007. The project received
short term research grant (STRG) of RM16,870.

Web-based Die and Mould Expert System (eDMES): Design and Development of eDMES:
Die Design, Manufacturing and Cost Structure Components. MEngTech programme (from
Sept 2008)

Business development and consultancy


Conducted feasibility studies and / or coordinates project paper preparations on
Integrated Circuit (IC) Academy, Hyberbaric Oxygen Treatment Chamber and
Technology Provider for MARA’s new IKMs on Food Technology and Medical
instrumentation technology and KKTMs on Biotechnology and ICT and
Microelectronics.

In-plant training supervision of first degree engineering undergraduates


From University of Applied Science Karlsruhe and Ulm, Germany. Their tasks were
as follows:
o Installation and control system programming of sensors (proximity and light)
on progressive die and conducted trial on the die on Yamada Dobby GH-60
press machine running at 120 strokes per minute.
o Proposal paper for the evaluation and purchase of cavity pressure sensor
system for plastic injection mould and installation of the system in a mould.
o Machining of parts and components of die and mould, assembly, trial and
quality control.

Industrial project management


Supervised instructors and technicians in completion of more than 50 external
projects from the industries from year 1997 to 2000 on mould, sheet metal forming
die and industrial automation projects, component machining and
digitising/reverse engineering. Job scope included feasibility study, cost
estimation, process planning, coordinate design, fabrication/machining, trial and
commissioning.

Special project
As manager, special projects (May 2000 – October 2002). Coordinated feasibility,
cost and capacity study, layout design and technical specification design and
development of training equipment and curriculum design and development on
setting up of the Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi MARA (KKTM) Balik Pulau, Penang. GMI
was appointed as the MARA’s Technology Provider.

International conference on technical education and vocational training, 2002


As deputy chairman. Assisted on logistic, financial and ceremonial matters.

Diploma programme
Designed, developed and conducted more than 1,300 hours of classes on two-
dimensional drafting and three-dimensional modelling using AutoCAD R12 and
AutoSurf. Design, develop and conduct examinations on these subjects.
Participants included personnel from industries.
Designed, developed and conducted more than 500 hours of classes on product,
progressive die and injection mould design. Designed, developed and conducted
examinations on these subjects.
Managed 2nd and 3rd year mould, die and industrial automation projects for diploma
programme of more than 65 in numbers (included 59 final year projects namely one
in 1994 – 1995, eight in 1996 – 1997, 12 in 1997 – 1998, 21 in 1998 – 1999, and 17 in
1999 – 2000). Job scope included selection of project supervisors, project
identification, project grouping, scheduling and assessment and evaluation
coordination

materials and standard parts ordering, planning and scheduling, machining and
