Each week we will continue to practise our Arithmetic skills,

e.g. working with fractions, decimals and percentages as

well as practising the calculation strategies to accompany
the 4 operations. We will also continue to solve a range of
puzzles and problems to show our reasoning skills and help
us to prepare for our end of year SATs.
In addition to this, we will:
revisit fractions, decimals and percentages
focus on ratio and proportion
revisit multiplying and dividing by multiples of 10
use rounding to help work out calculations/problems
revisit converting measurements
Above is just a flavour of what we will be learning this halfterm.

of scientific vocabulary when planning our tests, e.g. fair test,
variables, predict, collate, conclusion. Each week, we will carry
out a science investigation but will only focus on part of it, e.g.
prediction, conclusion, collection of results. We will build up an
Oak Class investigation book, which will be displayed in the
classroom.
COMPUTING

Narrative writing WW2 fiction

We will read a selection of WW2 stories, picking out the
features of them (really focusing on the general features of
narrative and having a big push on tightening grammatical
features). We will practise writing sections of narrative, e.g.
character description, setting description.
Then we will edit given parts of stories, leading on to planning
and writing our own.
Autobiographies/Biographies
We will make comparisons between biographies and
autobiographies, picking out the features of both text types.
We will practise writing in the style of both, leading on to
writing one of each based on given research, e.g. Anne Frank.
Poetry British WW2 poems
We will read a selection of poems (aloud), picking out their
features and then practise using some of these, e.g. figurative
language. We will then plan and write our own.

DT
Linked to rationing during WW2.
We will research recipes for different types of scones and
practise the different techniques needed for making them, e.g.
kneading. We will write instructions for our chosen scone type
and make them for an end of half-term afternoon tea.
ART
WW2 posters we will look at a range of WW2 posters, e.g.
Dig for Victory, picking out the features/style of them. We will try
out using different art media to help decide preferred media and
then create our own WW2 poster.
Decoupage we will use decoupage as the background of
posters.
Henry Moore we will look at WW2 themed art by Henry
Moore and create our own Henry Moore inspired WW2 pieces.
MUSIC
Each week we will take part in an hourly steel pan session. We
will learn to play the songs that we can then perform to others in
school.
