Periodic Table Basics

Step 1: Complete the square for each element by filling in the atomic number and name.
Step 2: Determine the number of protons(P), neutrons(N), and
electrons(E) in an atom of each element.
Step 3: Identify if the element is a solid(S), liquid(L), or gas(G)
at room temperature.
Step 4: Identify if the element as a metal(M), non-metal(N-M) or
semi-metal(S-M).

N-M S-M
O A:

Step 5: List at least one other physical or chemical property

for each element.
Step 6: List the:
A R = atomic radius
IE1 = ionisation energy

Step 6: List at least two uses for each element.

Step 7: Draw a Bohr diagram to show the arrangement of electrons
Step 8: Use the following colors to shade in the square for each element. You should ONLY
color the small square in the upper left-hand corner and not the entire card.
Green = Li, Na & K Pink = O & S

Blue = Be, Mg & Ca

Purple = F & Cl

Orange = B & Al

Tan = N & P

Yellow = He, Ne, & Ar

Red = C & Si

S
L
G

Identify groups 1-8

Step 9: Cut the cards apart and arrange
according to atomic number in the pattern
shown. Once you have the cards arranged in the
correct order, glue them to a large sheet of
paper.
Label periods 1, 2 and 3.
Step 10. Draw in the zig-zag step separating metals and non-metals
