Geotechnical Works & Ground Improvement

Geotechnical Works
& Ground Improvement
We offer ground improvement and geotechnical
value-added solutions from concept to execution.
Results often exceed performance criteria, with
significant cost savings to client.

Vibro Compaction
The Vibro Compaction technique consists of
the use of vibro-flottes to increase the density
of reclaimed or native materials.
Vibro Replacement (Stone Columns)
An effective method used for the improvement
of soft clays, mixed clay deposits, silt, sand
and fine sand. Reduces the liquefaction
potential of fine sand when the water table is
at a shallow depth.
Surface Compaction
It consists of compaction of shallow depth
soils, which is achieved by means of an
impact/vibratory roller. This is effective for
granular soils with fine content of less than
10% or in soil that is suitable for compaction.

10

Geotechnical Investigation
Cone Penetration Test
This is done before and after ground
improvement geotechnical investigations.
We are able to conduct a CPT (Cone
Penetration Test) using our in-house mobile
test vehicle. The CPT is the most common
in-situ testing method used worldwide. It
is carried out to determine geotechnical
engineering properties and soil stratigraphy.
Vibro Coring & Geophysical Survey
We offer a fully integrated capability that
includes geophysical surveys (bathymetry,
sub-bottom profiler, side scan sonar and
interpretation) and vibro coring for sand
search and sampling purposes offshore.

Oil & Gas Off-shore/Energy

Upper Zakum Field Development Project
An Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan
(EMMP) had been established and implemented by NMDC
for the project, based on ADNOC approved Environmental
Impact Assessment (EIA). This plan identifies project
significant environmental aspects especially those related
to marine environment and impose mitigation measures
during construction phase, as well as, monitoring and
auditing programs to validate efficiency of such measures
and at same time evaluate compliance with applicable
environmental legal requirements. Such measures include,
but not limited to:

16

Confined dredging/reclamation processes

using DGPS to limit any potential impact to
the proposed project footprint
Pre-dredging / reclamation surveys to scan
area for marine life or existing utilities prior
to any activity
Control of dredging / reclamation velocity to
minimize silt dispersion
Installation of silt screens at locations near
to existing industrial sensitive receptors like
water intakes to comply with existing water
quality regulations

Setting, along with ADNOC/ZADCO,

seawater quality standards for compliance
purposes
Conduct weekly third party environmental
monitoring of seawater turbidity, total
suspended solids, dust and noise at
proposed sensitive receptors to evaluate
compliance against set standards.
Conduct monthly third party environmental
audits to evaluate compliance against
approved EMMP at offshore and onshore
NMDC and subcontractors facilities
New structures creating habitat for
marine life

No specific marine structures (i.e. artificial reefs) had been built during Zakum project to create
habitat for marine life; however the current four islands shoreline profile and the construction
material made of can provide a possible shelter for marine organisms especially macroplanktons drafted into the islands like seaweeds and algae; and consequently this should lead
to creation of suitable habitats for fish communities and other marine mammals.
