DRAFT BALANCE TEST GUIDELINES

Rev.0

INTRODUCTION
When all utilities material and fans pre-commissioning are ready, the CFB boiler
needs to step up for the draft system test. The purpose of this test is to make sure
all fans / duct available in coming hot commissioning stage. Also it will test and tune
fan functions in automatic control mode.

PREPARATION BEFORE THE TEST

1) All the construction work of boiler/duct/fan has been turned over to commissioning stage.
2) Make sure all utilities material is available and system commissioning has done
completely. (cooling water, instrument air, loop test of fan..etc)
3) All instruments of boiler and draft system have been loop tested completely and
can indicate in DCS screen.
4) DCS is ready for operation and tuning.
5) All the check list of fans issued by fan vender has been done before testing.
6) Secure people away at the draft system and boiler side.
7) Check all the man door of draft system has been closed.
8) Make sure electrical power supply will be stable.

COMMISSIONING STEP
Once preparation works have been confirmed, it could process next step for draft
balance test.
1) Start auxiliary cooling water system, and make sure cooling water been passed
through the bearing of fans.
2) Start compressor /dryer for Instrument air system.
3) The dampers of fans and boiler (for secondary air and burner) shall operate functionally and smoothly before starting up fans.
4) It is necessary to open duct path damper of flue duct, if any.
5) Make all the fans in start condition and confirm by local operator. (cooling water,
lubrication oil system, damper position )
6) Secondary air/burner dampers of boiler open to 100% position. Primary air damper of furnace bottom windbox open to 100% position.

7) Switch all fans control mode to Local. All fans will be started in the local control
panel.
8) Start ID fan in local panel. Operator needs to confirm situation of ID fan in good
condition after full speed. And then, operator switches control from Local to
Remote(DCS).
9) Controlling furnace pressure in -15~-25 mmH2O by DCS operator and adjusting by
ID damper in manual way.
10)

Start FA blower and SA/PA fan by fan start procedure (same like step 7 & 8),
DCS operator needs to monitor and record bearing vibration and temperature
raising of fans under allowable range.

11)

Loading up fan slowly until 40% of total air flow by manual operation.

12)

Check all the boiler, air/flue duct and stack condition at local. Report to sift engineer if any abnormal (noise or vibration ).

13)

Start tuning the fans damper in auto mode. If tuning work has been done, loading up until 70 % total air flow by auto made operation.

14)

Keeping 70% of total air follow condition about 2 hours, operator make sure
bearing vibration and temperature raise of fans already be stabilized. If there is
something wrong, it shall stop all the fans immediately.

15)

After testing completely, decreasing fan load until 20 % of total air flow by auto
mode, then operator needs to switch mode from Auto to Manual of
dampers function. And it stops the draft system by normal shut down procedure.

The draft balance testing has been done, but it is necessary to keep eyes on the bearing of fans condition until fans rotor stopped.

Predicted air flow vs load condition is as below chart:

Note : During draft balance test, if de-dust system need to do the GD test or pre coating procedure if necessary, it can be starting during air flow stabilized.
