Student Project Assistance

STUDENT PROJECT ASSISTANCE:
BITSAA International encourages students to come up with their own projects to create an impact worldwide. In the past BITSAA
has supported a few projects. While BITSAA puts in efforts to raise funds and support students in other ways and means, this
assistance is not guaranteed.

Team ACYUT:
AcYut, the six year old humanoid robot of BITS-Pilani is not just India's first indigenously built humanoid, but also one of the best
humanoid robots in the world today. It is a name to reckon with in the world of Humanoid robot builders now. AcYut's
achievements like winning a total of 7 medals including India's first ever gold over a span of 4 years at the
RoboGames(USA, formerly Robo Olympics), securing the second place in Robocup(Iran) in a tightly fought final, demonstrations at
various prestigious Universities.

15

Student Project Assistance

Inspired Karters go to SAE BAJA:
While Acyut, the humanoid was dancing to the tunes a new class of
BITSians teamed up across disciplines to get a 4 wheeler onto road. All
the Individual parts of the ATV will be designed and fabricated in BITS
Workshop. The team Inspired Karters comprising of 15 members is
truly multi-disciplinary with students from Mechanical, Electronics,
Economics and Civil streams as they attempt, not to finish a project but
to introduce a working product. Tires from USA, steering system similar
to the one used in Lotus Elise, the team is all ready to display their
vehicle during BAJA 09 competition. Inspired Karters Racing is a team
of over 40 undergraduate students from BITS, Pilani who conceptualize,
design, manufacture, test and race. The Team wins the 1 prize in
Static Design Evaluation at SAE BAJA 2013.

Behind all this success, lies the immense amount of contribution by the BITSAA
Batch of 1983 and BITSAA International and we are extremely grateful for that. The
kind of support extended by them was tremendous and we hope that this bar set by
the present team will spur vigour in the coming teams to aim higher and bring more
laurels. --- Team BAJA

PROJECT IFOR:
The Intelligent Flying Object for Reconnaissance (IFOR) is an autonomous aerial vehicle that has been developed by BITS Pilani
Dubai Campus students. The vehicle is capable of localizing itself using the SLAM algorithm, stabilize its attitude (pitch, roll and yaw)
and altitude using PID controllers, plan paths around obstacles and navigate an unknown indoor environment with wall following
guidance. In addition, it has been designed to be capable of pattern recognition which would enable it to recognize images and signs.
