ANTICIPATORY SET

• In order to introduce the students to the assignment and get them excited, I will
introduce a wake up activity where there will be photos of one U.S. event from every
decade of 1900-2010 and the students will have to identify them and put them in
chronological order.

OBJECTIVES
• Students will:
-Learn about intellectual property and the importance of public domain media
-Gain technological knowledge in Animoto, a web 2.0 tool
-Use timelines to find appropriate media for their projects

• For the future the students will:

-Learn to respect intellectual property rights, which will help on future assignments
throughout their schooling and careers as well as teach them to protect their own media
from other users
-Learn to adapt to new technology quickly and carry over previous technological
knowledge, which will be useful as technology continues to advance

TEACHING
• This project will take five class periods
-Day 1: review researching, teach about public domain media
-Day 2: students begin looking for relevant events and photos
-Day 3: teach the process of creating an animoto video, students finish looking for events
and photos
-Day 4: students create animoto videos
-Day 5: animoto presentations

• Needed information
-Review of information gathering
-How public domain works
-Animoto video creation process
-Which decade each student is to work on

• Materials, Equipment and Resources

-Paper timeline for students to organize their events
-Print and online resources for finding relevant events and photos
-Computers to access databases and Internet
-Databases and Internet to find events and photos
-Animoto software download

• To teach students, I will:

-Review the information gathering process
-Show them public domain photo options, such as Flickr's creative commons
-Teach them how to save a number of photos to the computer
-Create a short animoto video to demonstrate the step by step process

GUIDED PRACTICE
• To stay abreast of the work, I will:
-Check paper timelines to ensure that students are finding relevant events
-Check downloaded images to see that they are public domain media and correspond to
the appropriate decade
-View animoto accounts during the production process

• If assistance is needed, I will:

-Answer any questions to the best of my ability
-Attempt to explain the project in a different way that may make more sense to a specific
student
-Teach students how to use the animoto help feature
-Send students in another direction if they hit research roadblocks
-Allow students who finish early to assist others

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE
• After receiving instructions and some training, students will need to use print and/or
electronic resources to find events from their assigned decade to fill in their timeline.
They will then use public domain photo websites to locate desired photos and create an
animoto video with these photos to visually demonstrate important events from U.S.
history.

CLOSURE
• Students will present their animoto videos to the class
• I will upload the best projects to the LMC website or wiki so others can see the great
work going on in the LMC
