A Robust Fault Location Algorithm for Single Line-to-ground Fault in Double-circ

uit Transmission Systems

Abstract:
This paper proposes an enhanced noise robust algorithm for fault
location on double-circuit
transmission line for the case of single line-to-ground (SLG) fault, which uses
distributed parameter
line model that also considers the mutual coupling effect. The proposed algorith
m requires the voltages
and currents from single-terminal data only and does not require adjacent circui
t current data. The fault
distance can be simply determined by solving a second-order polynomial equation,
which is achieved
directly through the analysis of the circuit. The algorithm, which employs the f
aulted phase network
and zero-sequence network with source impedance involved, effectively eliminates
the effect of load
flow and fault resistance on the accuracy of fault location. The proposed algori
thm is tested using
MATLAB/Simulink under different fault locations and shows high accuracy. The unc
ertainty of source
impedance and the measurement errors are also included in the simulation and sho
ws that the algorithm
has high robustness.\
Interior-point based algorithms for the solution of optimal power flow problems
Since the early 60 s [1] the optimal power flow (OPF) has
become progressively an essential tool in power systems planning,
operational planning and real-time operation, both in an
integrated and a deregulated electricity industry [2].
The OPF is stated in its general form as a nonlinear, nonconvex,
large-scale, static optimization problem with both continuous
and discrete variables. It aims at optimizing some
objective by acting on available control means while satisfying
network power flow equations, physical and operational
constraints.
First approaches to the complex OPF problem can be classified
in: gradient methods [3], sequential quadratic programming
[4] and sequential linear programming [5]. The shortcomings of
these techniques concern the slow convergence especially in the
neighborhood of the optimum for the first two, and a rather limited
field of application, such as the optimization of the active
control variables only, for the third one.

Optimal coordination of distance and over-current relays in series compensated s
ystems based on MAPSO
In this paper, a novel problem formulation for optimal coordination between dist
ance relays and Directional Over-Current Relays (DOCRs) in series compensated systems is proposed. Th
e integration of the
series capacitor (SC) into the transmission line makes the coordination problem
more complex. The main
contribution of this paper is a new systematic method for computing the optimal
second zone timing of

distance relays and optimal settings of DOCRs, in series compensated and uncompe
nsated transmission
systems, which have a combined protection scheme with DOCRs and distance relays.
In order to solve this
coordination problem, which is a nonlinear and non-convex problem, a Modi?ed Ada
ptive Particle Swarm
Optimization (MAPSO) is employed. The new proposed method is supported by obtain
ed results from a
typical test case and a real power system network.
