Muhurta selection Naksatras, Tithis and Yogas etc.

While selecting a Muhurta a suitable day and time for any undertaking the Tithi (Lunar
day), Nakshatra (Star constellation in which the moon is placed at that time) and the Yoga,
Karana (auspiciousness) and Vara (weekday) are taken into consideration. Apart from that
certain good times and bad times in a day, combinations of certain weekdays with Nakshatra
& Tithis are taken into consideration and certain doshas like Panchaka Doshas ans
Ekavimshati Doshas are also considered. If you dont have an astrologer to guide you, the
information on this page will help you to select a muhurta for marriage or entering a new
house etc.. Please note that in Vedic Astrology everything has its functional use. Some days
may be auspicious for some things, but inauspicious for other things.

Vara or Week

Week day in the Hindu Panchanga system is from Sunrise to next day Sunrise and NOT
MIDNIGHT 12 Oclock.
The 7 weekdays are:
Sunday Adivaram. Ruled by the Aditya or Sun God. A day of life, of integrity day of pure
consciousness. Enjoy life, the Sun; pay attention to yourself and your inner Self. Good for
enjoying work related to Nature, work related to gold, copper, trees, silk, fire, coronation.
Control your anger and ego. Dont be lazy, rude or violent.
Monday Somavaram. Ruled by the Chandra or Moon. Day of creativity, original thinking
and intuitive things. Good for buying new things like clothes, accessories and jewelry,
marriage, intuitive decisions and actions, approval from ladies, make changes and things
related to mother, water, milk. Dont be rigid or tough, Avoid haircutting and manicure.
Tuesday Mangalavaram. Ruled by Mangal or Mars. Day of material things. Good for work
related to minerals and metals, medicine, fire, electricity, sporting activities. Not suitable to
begin new things. Avoid traveling, be extra careful if you have to travel, beware of injuries,
quarrel, falls and accidents. Take care of your health.
Wednesday Budhavaram. Ruled by Budha or Mercury. Day of wisdom, knowledge,
happiness. A favourable day for all types of refined work, shopping, sales, business, logic,
starting new projects, communication; meeting friends, gain knowledge, marriage, preparing
and taking medicines; publishing and printing, media work and press release. Avoid lies,
cruelty and violence, dont bet.
Thursday Guruvaram. Ruled by Brihaspati or Jupiter. Day of Guru and higher officials,
worship, wisdom, knowledge, devotion, children and money. A very favourable day for
activities like getting married, giving gifts, doing charity, buying, shopping for important
things, selling, planning finances, for charity, learning scriptures and new things, meditation,
meeting your guru or boss, teaching and spending time with children, for banking, financial
planning, beginning new education. Dont get angry, dont be greedy, fickle minded or violent
or lazy or ungrateful. Dont tell lies.

Friday Shukravaram. Ruled by Shukra or Venus. A day of love, pleasures, fine arts,
harmony, luck and happiness. Good for buying jewelry, accessories, clothes, flowers and any
fine art or decorative things, marriage, courting the opposite sex, visiting or inviting friends,
all types of pleasures, eating good food and sweets, money matters, travel and tourism. Avoid
selling important things, being lonely.
Saturday Shanivaram. Ruled by Shani or Saturn. Day of rest and recover, patience,
service, work and charity. Take rest as resting on Saturday is good for longevity. Do things
related to iron, land, farming and housing, yoga, meditation. Avoid fuss, doing anything
important, dont begin anything new. Behave yourself take care about your health. Dont
argue. Avoid haircut or manicure.

Nakshatras
Rohini, Uttaraphalguni, Uttarasadha, and Uttarabhadrapada are FIXED constellations and
are favourable for digging wells, laying foundations or cities, expiatory rituals, planting trees,
coronations, buying lands, meritorious deeds, sowing of seeds, installation of Deities, the
building of a temple, or any other activity desirous of a lasting or permanent effect.
Mrgasira, Citra, Anuradha, and Revati are SOFT or GENTLE constellations good for fine
arts, learning, making friendships, sensual pleasures, decorations, sexual union, wearing new
apparel, marriage, singing and dancing, processions, auspicious ceremonies, festivities,
dealings of agriculture, and journeys.
Ashvini, Pusya, and Hasta are LIGHT or SWIFT constellations and are good for sports,
enjoying items of luxury, starting industries, skilled labour, medical treatments, starting
education, starting journeys, seeing friends, buying and selling, the performance of spiritual
activities, decorations, fine arts, exercise, and for giving or receiving loans.
Arudra, Aslesa, Jyestha, and Mula are DREADFUL stars and are suitable for success in
warfare, invocation of elementals and other spirits, imprisonment, separations, acts of
destruction, and the breaking of alliances with superiors.
Purnavasu, Swati, Shravana, Dhanistha and Satabhisa are TEMPORARY, MOVABLE, or
QUICK stars favourable for undertaking travel, acquiring conveyances, gardening, going on
processions, visiting friends, and anything of a temporary nature.

Bharani, Magha, Purvaphalguni, Purvasadha, and Purvabhadrapada are FIERCE or CRUEL,


constellations and are suitable for acts of evil, deceit, and conflict, destruction of enemies,
incarceration, poisoning, arson, battle, setting fire, acts of destruction, ill-repute, and cruelty.
Krtttika and Visakha are MIXED constellations and good for routine duties, ones
professional responsibilities, and any activities of day-to-day importance.
How to apply this:
FIXED (steady) stars, this is a favourable nakshatra to perform such things as laying
foundations, for building, careers, relationships, things that you want to be permanent.
SOFT (gentle) stars, favourable for art, dance, music, marital union, ceremonies.
LIGHT (excellent) stars, which give pleasure, sports, giving medicine, starting industries or
travel.
SHARP (harsh) stars, tantric incantations, imprisonment, causing separation of friends,
assasinations.
MOVABLE stars, acquiring vehicles, going on procession, gardening.
DREADFUL (cruel) stars, evil schemes, evil deeds, planting ghosts in people, deceit,
imprisonment, setting fires arson.

The 27 Nakshatras
Formula is, Moon Long/13.333 (13*20) = Nakshatra(s) Over
1.Ashwini. (Castor and Pullox). From 00.00 to 13.20 in Mesha or Aries. Devata for Ashwini
Nakshatra is Ashwi or the duality known as Ashwini Kumar Twins, the physician of the
Gods. Ruler Ketu.
Suitable for journeys, healing, jewelry making, beginning of studying, journey; buying/selling
vehicles. Nakshatras character is light and swift. Good for activities like sports, decoration
and fine arts, trade, shopping, short journeys, physical exercising, wearing and
manufacturing jewels, business start, education and teaching, taking medications, giving and
taking loans, religious activities, enjoying luxury items.

2.Bharani. (Arietis or a Muscae) Devata Yama. Lord Venus. It extends from 13:20 to 26:40 in
Aries. Immediate actions, cruel deeds, competition, activities, related to fire, poison, digging
wells, agricultural activities. Nakshatra is of a fierce and cruel nature. Suitable for poisoning,
destruction, fires and cheating. Dont start a journey, dont lend money. Good for work with
fire or weapons, poison or chemicals, cutting trees, competition. Not suitable for auspicious
undertakings.
3. Krittika. (Tauri or Alcyone) It extends from Mesa 26:40 to 10* in Vrishabha. The Devata
is Agni; Ruling planet is Sun. Good for immediate actions, competition, hot arguments, work
with metals. Nakshatra is of a mixed quality. Its suitable to perform the routine activities,
day-to-day duties, but its not recommended to start new important deeds.
4.Rohini. (Aldebaran) It extends in the Vrishabha Rasi from 10 degree to 23:20. The ruling
planet is Moon. The Devata is Brahma. It is a fixed and steady constellation and is favourable
for digging wells, laying foundations or cities, expiatory rituals, planting trees, coronations,
buying lands, meritorious deeds, sowing of seeds, installation of Deities, the building of a
temple, or any other activity desirous of a lasting or permanent effect.
5.Mrigasira. (Orionis) Mrigasira Nakshatra extends from after 23:20 in Vrishabha Rasi up to
6:40 in Mithuna. Presiding deity Chandra. Ruling planet Mars. Good for wedding, accepting
initiation, journeys, construction of the buildings, fundament. Nakshatra has a soft and gentle
nature. good for fine arts, learning, making friendships, sensual pleasures, decorations,
sexual union, wearing new apparel, marriage, singing and dancing, processions, auspicious
ceremonies, festivities, dealings of agriculture, and journeys.
6.Arudra. (Betelgeuse) In Mithuna from 6:40 to 20:00. The presiding deity the Rudra. The
ruling planet is Rahu. Fight with the enemies; activities with poison, fire; ghost hunting. It is of
a dreadful nature and is suitable for success in warfare, invocation of elementals and other
spirits, imprisonment, separations, acts of destruction, and the breaking of alliances with
superiors. Avoid journeys and shopping.
7.Punarvasu. (Geminorium) Spread from 20:00 degrees Mithuna up to 3:20 Karkata.
Presiding deity Aditi, the ruling planet is Jupiter. Good for buying and repairing vehicles,
Journeys, Pujas. It is a temporary, quick and movable nature star. Favourable for
undertaking travel, acquiring conveyances, gardening, going on processions, visiting friends.

8.Pushyami. (Cancri) It is regarded as the best of the nakshatras for any auspicious
undertaking. Spread from 3:20 to 16:40 Karka. Ruling planet is Saturn. The presiding deity
is Brihaspati. A highly auspicious Nakshatra. Good for all auspicious activities. It is a light
and swift constellation and is good for sports, enjoying items of luxury, starting industries,
skilled labour, medical treatments, starting education, starting journeys, seeing friends,
buying and selling, the performance of spiritual activities, decorations, fine arts, exercise, and
for giving or receiving loans.
9.Ashlesha. (Hydarae) Spread from 16:40 to 30: degree Karka. Ruling planet is Mercury.
Ruling deity is Sarpa. It is a star of dreadful nature and is suitable for success in warfare,
invocation of elementals and other spirits, imprisonment, separations, acts of destruction,
and the breaking of alliances with superiors. Not suitable for auspicious undertakings.
10.Makha. (Regulas or Leonis) Spread from 0 degree to 13:20 Simha. The ruling planet is
Ketu, the deity is Pitrigan. It is a fierce and cruel natured constellations and are suitable for
acts of evil, deceit, and conflict, destruction of enemies, incarceration, poisoning, arson,
battle, setting fire, acts of destruction, ill-repute, and cruelty. Not suitable for auspicious
activities. Do not start journeys and do not give or take loans.
11. Poorva Phalguni. (Leonis) Spread from 13:20 to 26:40 Simha. Ruling planet is Venus,
deity Lord Shiva. It is a cruel and fierce constellations and is suitable for acts of fighting,
forcing, evil, deceit, and conflict, destruction of enemies, incarceration, poisoning, arson,
battle, setting fire, acts of destruction, ill-repute, and cruelty. Not suitable for auspicious
undertakings.
12. Uttara Phalguni nakshatra (Lionis) Spread from 26:40 Simha to 10: degree Kanya. The
ruling planet is Sun, deity is Aryaman. It is a fixed and steady nature constellation and is
favourable for digging wells, laying foundations, expiatory rituals, planting trees, coronations,
buying lands, meritorious deeds, sowing of seeds, installation of Deities, the building of a

13. Hasta. (Corvi) Spread from 10: to 23:20 Kanya. Deity Surya, ruling planet is Moon. It is

is Vayu. It is of a temporary, movable and quick nature star favourable for undertaking

and anything of a temporary nature.
16. Vishakha. (Librae) Spread from 20 Tula up to 3:20 Vrischika Rashi. The ruling planet is
Jupiter, Deity is Satragni also called Indragni. It is mixed nature constellation and good for
routine duties, ones professional responsibilities, household work and any activities of day-today importance.
17. Anuradha nakshatra (Scorpionis) Spread from 3:20 to 1640 Vrischika Rashi. Ruling
planet is Saturn. Deity is Mitra, one of the Adities. It is a soft and gentle natured constellation
and good for fine arts, learning, making friendships, sensual pleasures, decorations, sexual
union, wearing new apparel, marriage, singing and dancing, processions, auspicious
ceremonies, festivities, dealings of agriculture, and journeys.
18. Jyeshtha. (Antares) Spread from 16:40 up to 30: degree Vrischika Rashi, ruling planet is

20. Poorvashadha. (Sagittari). Spread from 13:20 up to 2640 Dhanu Rashi, the ruling

Sun. It is a fixed nature constellation and is favourable for digging wells, laying foundations or

of seeds, installation of Deities, the building of a temple, marriage, or any other activity
desirous of a lasting or permanent effect.

22. Shravana (Aquarii). Spread after 10: degree up to 23:20 in Makara, the ruling planet is
Moon, symbol 3 footprints, deity Hari. It is temporary, quick and movable star which is
favourable for undertaking travel, acquiring conveyances, gardening, going on processions,
visiting friends, shopping, and anything of a temporary nature.
23. Dhanishtha nakshatra (Capricorni or Delphini). Spread from after 23:20 in Makara up to
6:40 in Kumbha, the ruling planet is Mars. Ruling deity is Asthavasu. . It is temporary, quick
and movable star which is favourable for undertaking travel, acquiring conveyances,
gardening, going on processions, visiting friends, shopping, and anything of a temporary
nature.
24. Shatabhistha (Aquarii) Spread from after 6:40 up to 20: in Kumbha, the ruling planet is
Rahu and the ruling deity is Varuna. . It is temporary, quick and movable star which is
favourable for undertaking travel, acquiring conveyances, gardening, going on processions,
visiting friends, shopping, and anything of a temporary nature.
25. Purvabhadra nakshatra (Pegasi). Spread from after 20: in Kumbha up to 3:20 in Meena,
the ruling planet is Jupiter, deity is Ajopada (Rudra). It is a cruel and fierce constellations and
is suitable for acts of fighting, forcing, evil, deceit, and conflict, destruction of enemies,
incarceration, poisoning, arson, battle, setting fire, acts of destruction, ill-repute, and cruelty.
Not suitable for auspicious undertakings.
26. Uttarabhadrapada nakshatra (Andromedae). Spread from after 3:20 up to 16:40 in
Meen, the ruling planet is Saturn, deity is Ahirbudhyana. It is a fixed nature constellation and
is favourable for digging wells, laying foundations or cities, expiatory rituals, planting trees,
coronations, buying lands, meritorious deeds, sowing of seeds, installation of Deities, the
building of a temple, marriage, or any other activity desirous of a lasting or permanent effect.
27. Revati nakshatra (Piscium). Spread from after 16:40 up to 30 degree in Meena Rashi, the
ruling planet is Mercury. Deity is Pusan. It is a soft and gentle natured constellation and good
for fine arts, learning, making friendships, sensual pleasures, decorations, sexual union,
wearing new apparel, marriage, singing and dancing, processions, auspicious ceremonies,
festivities, dealings of agriculture, and journeys.

The 15 Tithis
Vridhi Tithi : The tithi which is present at the time of Sunrise on first day and also on the
second day sunrise is called Vridhi Tithi.
Kshya Tithi : The tithi which starts after first sunrise and ends before second sun rise is called
Kshaya Tithi.

1.Pratipada or Padyami. The Chandra Kala is Amrita. The presiding deity of the 1st Tithi is
Brahma. It is a Nanda tithi which bestows happiness. It is auspicious for all types of religious
and auspicious ceremonies, festivals, journeys, wedding, installation, observing a vow,
accepting honors or a position, activities related to real estate and hair cutting.
2.Dwitiya. The Chandra Kala is Manada. Vidhata rules this 2nd Tithi. It is a Bhadra tithi
which is good for starting any new work. Good for laying the foundation of house, factory,
and other things of a permanent nature. Good for wedding, starting a job or any duty or the
beginning of any work and wearing jewelry.
3.Tritiya. The Chandra Kala is Poosha. Vishnu is the lord of this Tithi. It is a Jaya Tithi and
bestows victory. Auspicious day to start important businesses, wedding, the first music
lesson, the first feeding of a child, construction. Good for the cuttings of ones hair and nails
and shaving.
4.Chaturthi. The Chandra Kala is Tusthi. Yama is lord of the 4th Tithi. It is a Rikta Tithi and
not good for auspicious works. Good for the destruction of ones enemies, the removal of
obstacles, acts of combat, cleaning of the house, polishing, arguments, fight with the enemies,
use of weapons and fire. Inauspicious day to start any important businesses.
5.Panchami. The Chandra Kala is Pusthi. The Moon rules this 5th Tithi. It is a Poorna Tithi
and good for completing any work. Favourable for administering medicine, the purging of
poisons and surgery. Auspicious day to start important businesses, wedding and healing.
6.Shasthi. Chandra Kala is Rati. Karttikeya presides over this 6th Tithi. It is a Nanda tithi
which bestows happiness. Favourable for Coronation, Construction, activities related to the
houses and real estate, jewelery making, starting friendship and starting war. Not very
auspicious for marriage.
7.Saptami. The Chandra Kala is Dhruti. The 7th Tithi is ruled by Indra . It is a Bhadra Tithi
which is good for starting any new work. Activities, related to transportation; Buying
conveyances, wedding, music, dance, debate, decoration and ornaments; the beginning of a
journey, starting a war and physical exercise.
8.Ashthami. The Chandra Kala is Sasichini. The Vasus rule this 8th Tithi. It is a Jaya Tithi
and bestows victory. Good for taking up arms, building of ones defenses, and fortification,
architecture, debate, dance . Auspicious day to start important businesses, sport, studying
arts, activities related to houses and estates, studying and construction.

9.Navami. The Chandra Kala is Chandrika. The Serpent rules this 9th Tithi. It is a Rikta
Tithi and not good for auspicious works. Suitable for killing enemies, acts of destruction, and
violence. Inauspicious day for important businesses. Good for arguments, competition,
physical exercising, shooting etc. marksmanship and work with tools.
10.Dasami. The Chandra Kala is Kanta. This 10th Tithi is ruled by Dharma. It is a Poorna
Tithi and good for completing any work. Good for acts of virtue, religious functions, spiritual
practices, and other pious activities, entering a home, to start important businesses, wedding,
wearing jewels, journeys, activities, related to transportation, vehicles, houses and meeting
important people.
11.Ekadasi. The Chandra Kala is Jyostna. Rudra rules this 11th Tithi. It is a Nanda tithi
which bestows happiness. Fasting, worship, fulfilling promises, wedding, arguments, physical
exercises, construction, pilgrimage, spiritual holidays, festivities, observing vows, decorating,
arrival and departure.
12.Dwadasi. The Chandra Kala is Shree. The Sun rules this 12th Tithi. It is a Bhadra Tithi
which is good for starting any new work. Auspicious for all religious ceremonies, the lighting
of the sacred fire, and the performance of ones duties. Fulfillment of promises, other
auspicious activities. Avoiding taking oil bath and journeys. Wedding is not very auspicious.
13.Trayodasi. The Chandra Kala is Priti. The 13th Tithi is ruled by Cupid. Also called
Pradosham and very good for Pooja of Lord Shiva. It is a Jaya Tithi and bestows victory.
Auspicious day to start important businesses, wearing new clothes and jewels, struggle,
fulfillment of promises, starting a war, observing vows and sensual pleasures.
14.Chaturdasi. The Chandra Kala is Angada. Kali rules this 14th. It is a Rikta Tithi and not
good for auspicious works. Suitable for administering poison and calling of elements and
spirits. Inauspicious day for any important businesses. Only do routine work and read
scriptures. Avoid journeys, hair cutting and manicure.
15.Amavasya. The Chandra Kala is Poorna. The Viswadevas rule this 15th Tithi. It is a
Poorna Tithi but not good for any work except religious ceremonies and worship.
Inauspicious day for any work except religious ceremonies, charity and performing rites for
the departed.
15.Poornima. The Chandra Kala is Poorna. The Viswadevas rule this 15th Tithi. It is a
Poorna Tithi and good for completing any work. Auspicious day to start important
businesses, constructions, accepting a position, the beginning of work, spiritual ceremonies,
household work and physical activities.

The 27 Yogas
Yoga is a derivative from the Sun and Moon. Formula is, Long Sun + long Moon)/13.333 =
Yogas over.
1. Vihakumbha. Meaning a poison pot. Inauspicious yoga. Not good for auspicious
undertakings.
2. Preeti. Meaning gratification, love. Auspicious yoga. Good for auspicious undertakings.
3. Ayushman. Shubha yoga meaning logevity. Good for auspicious undertakings.
4. Saubhagya. Shubha yoga meaning good fortune. Good for auspicious undertakings.
5. Shobhana. Shubha yoga meaning splendid. Good for auspicious undertakings.
6. Atigaa. Bad yoga meaning many obstacles/dangers. Not good for auspicious
undertakings.
7. Sukarma. Meaning good work. Good for auspicious undertakings.
8. Dhti. Meaning steadiness. Good for auspicious undertakings.
9. Shoola. Meaning spear. Not good for auspicious undertakings.
10. Gaa. Meaning danger. Not good for auspicious undertakings.
11. Viddhi. Meaning growth. Good for auspicious undertakings.
12. Dhruva. Meaning permanent/steady. Good for auspicious undertakings.
13. Vyaghata. Meaning slaughter. Not good for auspicious undertakings.
14. Harhaa. Meaning rejoicing. Good for auspicious undertakings.

21. Siddha. Meaning Accomplishment, completion, Perfection. Good for all Auspicious
Deeds.
22. Sadhya. Meaning attainable, accomplishable. Good for all Auspicious Deeds.
23. Shubha. Meaning auspicious. Good for all Auspicious Deeds.
24. Shukla. Meaning bright. Good for all Auspicious Deeds.
25. Brahma. Meaning divine or excellent. Good for all Auspicious Deeds.
26. Indra. Meaning God of heavens. Good for all Auspicious Deeds.
27. Vaidhti. Meaning stopping, arresting. Inauspicious yoga. Not good for auspicious
undertakings.
