1.0 PURPOSE
This method of statement covers the installation of Light Fittings as defined in the General Specification.
2.0 SCOPE

This procedure will define the method to be used to ensure that Light Fitting installations and workmanship are correct and
acceptable and shall conform to the Contract Documents and Specification.

5.0 SAFETY

Prior to commencing the activity, all control measures and safety/health precautions shall be ensured at site and effectively
communicated to the task force as described in the attached risk assessment.
Hazards associated with work:
Working at height- will be no higher than 2 meter using a combination of scaffold towers which will be inspected on a daily
basis (Scaffold Tag System) and step ladders. The operator working on step ladder will be assisted by a second operator
who will foot the steps (at no point will the operator work on the top two steps).
Hand held power tools- All the power tools will be inspected on a daily basis to ensure the safety of those tools.
Tool Box Talks to be carried out on a weekly basis. Training records to be held in site office. Records available on request.
See risk attached risk assessments for site specific control measures.
Prior to commencing the activity, all control measures and safety/health precautions shall be ensured at site and effectively
communicated to the task force as described in the attached risk assessment.

6.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
6.1 PROJECT MANAGER:
The Project Manager is responsible for all the installation and Commissioning activities related for MEP services in Al
Injazat Technical Services scope of work. The Project Manager is having full authority and overall responsibility to manage,
supervise and control the works. Coordinate with the engineers, Main contractor and the Client for execution of the
contract scope of works. Implement the Project Quality Systems to the satisfaction of the project requirements. Review
changes and variations to evaluate impact of those on time and schedule.
6.2 SAFETY ENGINEER / OFFICER:
The Safety Engineer/Officer is responsible for implementing the risk assessment and he will ensure that all control
measures and necessary safety/health precautions are effectively completed prior to start the activity.
To give special concern to housekeeping, and ensure that the site is maintained clean and tidy.

The Safety Engineer will cooperate fully with the Main Contractor and Consultant Engineers to ensure that all requirements
raised by Consultant/Client are fulfilled.
Safety Officer/Engineer to conduct, weekly tool box for the working site staff and engineers and to ensure that all working
site staff are familiar with the safety requirement.
6.4 SITE ENGINEER:
Co-ordinate the entire site activities required for the installation of pipes according to the project specification,
manufacturer data sheet.
Liaise with site representatives of the Client and the Contractor and coordinate safety procedures with Site Supervisors.
Co-ordinate and explain the work to be carried out to the supervisors.
6.5 SITE SUPERVISOR/ FOREMAN:
He will execute the installation works according to the project specification/contractual document, approved shop drawings
and manufacturers recommendations. He will coordinate with crew on implementation of Safety & Environmental (HSE)
procedures at the site. He will ensure that the Crew at the site uses the relevant PPES.
7.0 EQUIPMENT & TOOLS

Ladder & tower scaffolding (if required).

7.1 STORAGE AREA


Make sure that all materials are stored in safe location as assigned by the Main Contractor. All extra materials will be
returned to store after completing the site store and to be stored safely in the designated location. Store Keeper will record
all issued and returned materials from and to work location.
8.0 METHOD STATEMENT
8.1

Prior to start of work, coordination meeting should be conducted with the Main Contractors Civil Engineer,
Construction Manager and if needed with the Project Manager. The Electrical Engineer should attend the
coordination meeting to coordinate the site activity and work between civil, mechanical and electrical site works.

8.2

All materials and documentation relevant to this particular Section of works will be checked by the Construction
Department prior to the commencement of works. Ensure that all materials to be installed are inspected and
accepted by the Consultant.

8.3

Access to start the work will be confirmed that they are in a suitable condition for permanent works to
commence.

8.4 STORAGE
-

Light Fittings shall be stored on clean, dry and ventilated location.


Light Fittings accessories such as lamp shall be properly stacked and keep on a clean, dry and ventilated
location.
Make sure that every type of light fitting and lamp shall be stacked on one location.

8.5 GENERAL PROCEDURE

All the materials received at site shall be inspected and stored upon receipt as per the manufacturers
recommendation.
The work area shall be inspected for completion and safety to start the installation works.
Make sure that all the relative approved drawings are available at site for the execution of jobs.

8.6 PRE-INSTALLATION

All materials and documentation relevant to this particular section of works shall be checked and verified
ensuring that these are correct and approved type.
All building wiring related works shall be complete, tested and sign-off by the Consultant.
Areas where in to start permanent works shall be checked ensuring that they are ready for the said installation.
Make sure that ceiling and wall finishes are completed.
Check all ceiling opening for light fixtures are correct.
Check all points of supports from slabs so as not to hit or cut any strands of the slabs

8.7 INSTALLATION LIGHT FITTINGS


8.7.1 Recessed Ceiling Light Fittings

It has been presumed that all works and finishes related to recessed light fittings installation are completed and
ready for installation of permanent works.
Fix light fitting: Recessed Fluorescent Light Fittings and Down Light will be installed with proper mounting
support from the solid slab.
Fix lights fixtures housing. Ensure that they are properly aligned. Make sure that manufacturers
recommendation for light fitting installation shall be adhered.
Terminate power cables to the light fitting. Ensure that they are terminated properly. Light fixtures housing shall
be earthed.
Fix lamps on the fixtures. Check the type and colors of the lamps and make sure that they are correct and
approved type.
Fix the light fixture reflectors and diffusers. Ensure that they are aligned and properly fixed.
Temporary power connection shall be made to check the proper operation of light fittings.
Raise Request for Inspection of light fittings installation.

8.7.2 Surface mounted ceiling and Wall Light Fittings

It has been presumed that final finishes on the walls and ceiling are completed and all building wiring works
related to light fitting installation has been installed, tested and accepted by the Consultant.
Mark the location of light fittings at the height indicated. Make sure the elevations are correct.
Fix light fixture casing. The light fixtures shall be fixed with specified type of fixing materials i.e. metal screws,
plastic plugs, anchors and bolts etc. Take note that when fixing the light fixture, manufacturers recommendation
for installation shall be strictly followed.
Connect power cables to the light fittings. Ensure that they are connected properly. Housing of the light fittings
shall be earthed.
Fix lamps on the fixtures. Check the type and color of the lamp before fixing to ensure that they are correct and
approved type.
Fix light fixtures reflectors and diffusers. Make sure that they are fixed properly.
Connect the temporary power supply to check the proper operation of light fittings.
Request for Inspection shall be raised for signing off of the light fitting installation.

8.7.3 Floor and Bollard Light Fittings.

It has been presumed that all works associated with light fittings installation has been checked and signed-off by
the Consultant and finishes has been completed and ready for permanent installation.
Clear the location of light fitting. Remove unnecessary obstruction. Make good the size of the openings.

Install light fixtures housing. Make sure that the housing has been installed flush with finished floor in
coordination with the main contractor for civil works as per the Light Fittings manufacturer recommendation. In
addition, need to coordinate with the main contractor for the concrete base to install the Bollard lights. All
conduits shall be terminated on the light fitting housing and wires must be brought outside.
Terminate the power cables to the fittings. Make sure that the wires are properly fixed and ensure that the
housing shall be properly earthed.
Fix the lamp on the fixtures. The lamps shall be checked ensuring that they are correct and approved type.
Fix light fitting diffuser and make sure that they are installed correctly.
Connect temporary power supply to check the proper operation of light fittings.
Raise Request for Inspection of light fittings installation.

8.7.4 Flood Light Fittings

It has been assumed that all works related to flood light installation has been completed. Building wires has been
tested and signed-off by the Consultant.
Fix flood light mounting brackets. Ensure that they are fixed rigidly and properly.
Fix the flood light on the brackets. Connect power cables on the fittings and ensure that the body of the flood
lights is properly earthed.
Fix lamps on the fixtures. Ensure that the lamps are correct and approved type.
Connect temporary power supply to check the proper operation of the flood lights.
Raise Request for Inspection of light fittings installation.

8.7.6 Pendant Mounted Ceiling Light Fittings

It has been assumed that all wiring works related to light fitting installation are completed and inspected.
Finishes related to this works were completed and the access panels on the ceilings were open.
Install pendant support on ceiling slab. Ensure that it is properly and rigidly fixed. All pendant support shall be as
approved materials or related accessories of Light fixture or as per manufacturer recommendation.
Fix the light fittings to the support.
Connect the power cable to the light fixture. Make sure that the connection is correct and the body and the body
of the light fittings were earthed.
Fix lamps to the light fixture. Make sure that the lamps are correct and approved type.
Connect temporary power supply to the light fittings and check the proper operation.
Raise Request for Inspection of pendant mounted ceiling lights.
INSPECTION

All used materials to be checked to ensure complying with approved material submittal.

Location & mounting height shall be same as approved drawing.

Result of inspection shall be recorded on the appropriate format.
