DIPLOMA IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING TO ADULTS

Why study DELTA at ATTC?


The Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA) is issued by
Cambridge English Language Assessment, a not-for-profit department of
the University of Cambridge.
The prestigious DELTA qualification is held by many of the worlds
most experienced teachers, head teachers, directors of studies and
teacher trainers.
The DELTA at ATTC addresses all the course objectives set by Cambridge
English Language Assessment.
The trainers who lead ATTC courses are highly experienced teachers and
teacher trainers, and are all Cambridge accredited DELTA trainers.
ATTC DELTA graduates have excellent teaching opportunities and
employment pathways around the world.

Diploma in English Language Teaching


to Adults (DELTA)
Issued by Cambridge English Language Assessment,
a not-for-profit department of the University of Cambridge,
the prestigious DELTA qualification is held by many of the
worlds most experienced teachers, head teachers, directors
of studies and teacher trainers.
The course is designed for in-service teachers
of English who work in a variety of teaching
contexts e.g. adult, primary or secondary, and
provides the opportunity to:
acquire new insights into the area
of English Language Teaching (ELT)
to adults and a deeper understanding
of the principles and practices
review and update current beliefs
and practices
extend expertise in a specialist area.
It is also intended for an international
audience of non-first language or first
language teachers of English.

Course structure
The DELTA qualification is made up of
three modules:
Module One Understanding language,
methodology and resources for teaching
Module Two Developing
professional practice
Module Three Extending practice and
English language teaching specialism OR
English language teaching management
We are accepting applications for
courses in 2015:
Module One

17 August-27 November 2015


Part time (2 evenings, Saturday
morning) 15 week face-to-face course
Exam held 2 December 2015
Module Two

1 February-13 May 2016


Part time (2 evenings, Saturday
morning) 15 week face-to-face course
Assessment completed during
the course
Module Three

Starting Monday 1 February 2016 or


Monday 16 May 2016

This is not a course but supervision


of independent work towards submission
of extended written assignment by
1 June 2016.

Assessment requirements
Module One

This will be assessed by written examination


consisting of two parts, each taking 1 hour
and 30 minutes.
The 2015 examination will take place on
Wednesday 2 December 2015 at ATTCs
Sydney CBD Campus, or at another
registered Cambridge Language Assessment
examination centre. The 2016 examinations
will take place on the first Wednesday of
June and December.

Module Two

The assessment of Module Two


requires submission of 4 background
essays, lesson plans and self-evaluation
reports based on four observed assessed
lessons and the teaching of 4 observed
assessed lessons (3 internally and
1 externally assessed). In addition,
participants need to pass a Professional
Development Assignment and carry out
guided observations of experienced
teachers for a minimum of 10 hours.
Module Three

This module is assessed by an extended


written assignment of 4,000-4,500 words
and is to be submitted to Cambridge.
Participants are expected to submit their
assignment prior to 2 December 2015,
1 June 2016 or 1 December 2016 via our
Sydney office.

Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA)

DELTA Certification
On successful completion of all 3 modules,
participants are awarded the full DELTA
certificate. Grades include Pass with
Distinction, Pass with Merit, Pass and Fail.
Certificates will also be issued for the
successful completion of each module.

Entry requirements
DELTA applicants are required to:
have a minimum of a years ELT
experience (600 hours)
have an initial ELT teaching qualification
have competence in both written and
spoken English that enables all course
work to be followed and assessment
elements to be completed successfully
c omplete 3 application tasks
(Module Two only)
Please Note: In order to enrol in the DELTA
course at ATTC, you should be in good health
and be able to manage the stress arising
from an challenging course of this nature.
This course is not ideal if you have other

commitments that prevent you from being


able to fulfil these requirements. It is
anticipated that you will need to complete
100 hours of reading, research and
assignment preparation in addition to the
face to face course component.

Module Two: AUD$2,000
Module Three: AUD$350
Assessment fees are also payable through
ATTC to Cambridge as follows:
Module One: GBP107
Module Two: GBP129
Module Three: GBP75.50

Resources
A recommended list of useful books and
texts will be provided. Students will be
able to borrow books from the Teacher
Training resource collection on campus
and will have access to the colleges
teaching resources.

willing to provide a brief reference
supporting your application

Course overview
ATTC runs a course for Module One and Module Two and an individual supervision program
for Module Three. The DELTA at ATTC addresses all the course objectives set by Cambridge
English Language Assessment.
Module One - Understanding
language, methodology and
resources for teaching

teaching and learning English in a range of

theoretical perspectives on language
acquisition and language teaching
different approaches and
methodologies, including current
developments
language systems and learners
linguistic problems
language skills and learners problems
knowledge of resources, materials and
reference sources for language learning

preparation for teaching English


language learners
evaluating, selecting and using
resources and materials
managing and supporting learning
evaluation of lesson preparation
and teaching
observation/evaluation of other
teachers lessons
professionalism and opportunities for
professional development

Module Three
Option 1: Extending practice and
English language teaching specialism

4 week voluntary placement as assistant
teacher in one of the Navitas English
colleges teaching the AMEP (Adult Migrant
English Program), which can provide an
introduction to a career and study pathway
option after DELTA.
ATTC is the TESOL training division of
