TheSupremePersonalityofGodheadsaid:It
issaidthatthereisanimperishablebanyan
treethathasitsrootsupwardanditsbranches
downandwhoseleavesaretheVedichymns.
Onewhoknowsthistreeistheknowerofthe
Vedas.

Thebranchesofthistreeextenddownwardand
upward,nourishedbythethreemodesof
materialnature.Thetwigsaretheobjectsofthe
senses.Thistreealsohasrootsgoingdown,
andtheseareboundtothefruitiveactionsof
humansociety.

Therealformofthistreecannotbeperceivedin
thisworld.Noonecanunderstandwhereit
ends,whereitbegins,orwhereitsfoundation
is.Butwithdeterminationonemustcutdown
thisstronglyrootedtreewiththeweaponof
detachment.Thereafter,onemustseekthat
placefromwhich,havinggone,onenever
returns,andtheresurrendertothatSupreme
PersonalityofGodheadfromwhomeverything
beganandfromwhomeverythinghas
extendedsincetimeimmemorial.

Thosewhoarefreefromfalseprestige,illusion
andfalseassociation,whounderstandthe

eternal,whoaredonewithmateriallust,who
arefreedfromthedualitiesofhappinessand
distress,andwho,unbewildered,knowhowto
surrenderuntotheSupremePersonattainto
thateternalkingdom.

ThatsupremeabodeofMineisnotilluminedby
thesunormoon,norbyfireorelectricity.Those
whoreachitneverreturntothismaterialworld.

Thelivingentitiesinthisconditionedworldare
Myeternalfragmentalparts.Dueto
conditionedlife,theyarestrugglingveryhard
withthesixsenses,whichincludethemind.

Thelivingentityinthematerialworldcarrieshis
differentconceptionsoflifefromonebodyto
anotherastheaircarriesaromas.Thushetakes
onekindofbodyandagainquitsittotake
another.

Thelivingentity,thustakinganothergross
body,obtainsacertaintypeofear,eye,tongue,
noseandsenseoftouch,whicharegrouped
aboutthemind.Hethusenjoysaparticularset
ofsenseobjects.

Thefoolishcannotunderstandhowaliving
entitycanquithisbody,norcanthey
understandwhatsortofbodyheenjoysunder
thespellofthemodesofnature.Butone
whoseeyesaretrainedinknowledgecanseeall
this.

Theendeavoringtranscendentalists,whoare
situatedinselfrealization,canseeallthis
clearly.Butthosewhosemindsarenot
developedandwhoarenotsituatedinself
realizationcannotseewhatistakingplace,
thoughtheymaytryto.

Thesplendorofthesun,whichdissipatesthe
darknessofthiswholeworld,comesfromMe.
Andthesplendorofthemoonandthesplendor
offirearealsofromMe.

Ienterintoeachplanet,andbyMyenergythey
stayinorbit.Ibecomethemoonandthereby
supplythejuiceoflifetoallvegetables.

Iamthefireofdigestioninthebodiesofall
livingentities,andIjoinwiththeairoflife,
outgoingandincoming,todigestthefourkinds
offoodstuff.

Iamseatedineveryone'sheart,andfromMe
comeremembrance,knowledgeand
forgetfulness.ByalltheVedas,Iamtobe
known.Indeed,IamthecompilerofVedanta,
andIamtheknoweroftheVedas.

Therearetwoclassesofbeings,thefallibleand
theinfallible.Inthematerialworldeveryliving
entityisfallible,andinthespiritualworldevery
livingentityiscalledinfallible.

Besidesthesetwo,thereisthegreatestliving
personality,theSupremeSoul,theimperishable
LordHimself,whohasenteredthethreeworlds
andismaintainingthem.

BecauseIamtranscendental,beyondboththe
fallibleandtheinfallible,andbecauseIamthe
greatest,Iamcelebratedbothintheworldand
intheVedasasthatSupremePerson.

WhoeverknowsMeastheSupremePersonality
ofGodhead,withoutdoubting,istheknowerof
everything.Hethereforeengageshimselfinfull
devotionalservicetoMe,OsonofBharata.

ThisisthemostconfidentialpartoftheVedic
scriptures,Osinlessone,anditisdisclosednow
byMe.Whoeverunderstandsthiswillbecome
wise,andhisendeavorswillknowperfection.
